: I've had the beast for three days and my average MPG is 5.2!
3grx7 10-17-2007, 06:54 AM Is this what most of you guys are experiencing as well? I knew this thing was a guzzler, but c'mon!
It's actually not that important to me, seeing that I own & operate a Chevron station, but still! I don't feel like filling her up every 2-3 days.
Obviously, since she's brand-spankin new, I've really been standing on the loud pedal, but I plan on driving like this most of the time.
How many miles are you all averaging on a full tank?
No matter what, this is not gonna stop me from loving the beast!
jim383 10-17-2007, 07:20 AM I got 1900 miles on mine and have avg 14 mpg 60% intown 40% freeway. Now these are so ca freways so it mite as well be driving intown. I did change the stock air filter to a K&N and it helped a little. Its about 2 mpg less than my 06 srt-8 magnum was getting.
BOOST ALMIGHTY 10-17-2007, 07:27 AM Reset it and do it again. The MPG counter gets way off if you let it sit and idle or anything. It will go up.
Go~RillaWRX 10-17-2007, 07:27 AM 14k miles. 8 of which the total average mpg is 14.9
gpfarrell 10-17-2007, 07:27 AM You won't be able to average 5.2 for long. You'll either lose your license or slow down. I think the mileage naturally gains a tick or two as things loosen up a bit too. Keep having fun, and quit checking the mileage!
CentralTexHemi 10-17-2007, 07:28 AM There is something definately wrong there, not that I baby mine all the time but I also dont floor it all the time but I did check mine and I'm getting 13.5 MPG maybe its the Chevron Gas:D-JK something is up if your only getting 5.2
2BADGN 10-17-2007, 07:33 AM It will go up or at least it should.....I am averaging 12.1 and that is alot of city driving and some highway...and I stomp it all the time....so be patient and quit checking the AVG. MPG...have fun with it.:D
BILLSHOE 10-17-2007, 08:14 AM I was getting about 7mpg till about1200 miles with mopar cai now at 1400 with B&B and I'm getting 11 mpg I think it goes up with break in
AHurst 10-17-2007, 08:29 AM Shell 91 only in mine. (Colorado only goes up to 91).
I can easily get 17 mpg on the hwy.
mingoglia 10-17-2007, 08:49 AM Are you putting high octane fuel in? No matter how hard I drive this thing I can't get the mileage to get below 12.8 average. Although my wife drives it in between resetting the MPG computer when I'm in it my foot is always down. The reason why I ask this is back when we had the gas crunch the gas stations (at least around here) were only transporting regular unleaded so I had to put regular unleaded in my Navigator. With regular unleaded I literall got 5 or 6 mph probably due to the knock sensors cutting the engine back due to pre-ignition. Anyway, just putting some octane booster in brought my fuel mileage back to normal.... What are you putting in the tank?

timster 10-17-2007, 10:48 AM just reset and see what it gets..
echo412 10-17-2007, 11:27 AM i was averaging 8mpg when i first bought mine for about a month but i gradually gets better. Now i am averaging 13.1
DJ Red Barron 10-17-2007, 12:47 PM just reset and see what it gets..
Here's my stupid question of the day... How do you reset it?
Juggernaught 10-17-2007, 01:06 PM My '06 GCSRT8 has 16K. I've been driving it 30 miles each way to work for the last couple of weeks and averaged 16-17 mpg. :) My commute is about 70% highway and 30% city. My '04 Dakota 4X4 with a 4.7L on the same commute is getting 17 mpg, so I am pleased. Between my truck and Jeep there is almost no mileage penalty. :D
HOJeepster 10-17-2007, 01:53 PM I've been getting 12 mpg city - 16 highway. I use to have a HO Overland, and surprisingly I got about 14/20...not that big of a change that I care about.
Bang Bang 10-17-2007, 02:10 PM I have had my beast for a week now and according to the computer I am getting an average of 13.4 with about 40/60 city/highway driving.
Yeah it drinks gas like crazy, but I am getting better mileage than I expected, especially during break-in. My 07 Overland that I traded in on my SRT got about 14.5 Avg with about the same driving conditions. The major difference will be with all highway driving where my Overland would get btw 18-19 MPG with the cruise set btw 70-80mph. I don't think the SRT will get anything more than 15-16 MPG on the highway under ideal conditions.
Vinnysrt8 10-17-2007, 03:21 PM i get about 16 mpg on the highway doing 65 i have 2500 miles but on city roads i get about 13 mpg i use hess premium it is 93 octane

Im gonna go on a limb here and actually believe that you calculated it based on miles driven and gallons to fill the tank and NOT just look at the MPG read out. If this is the case, then I would bring it back and tell them to plug the hole in the tank...
5.2 seems impossible. Full throttle down the drag strip I get about 8.5. It should get a lot better, around town I get about 12.5 with a very heavy foot.
TurboWill 10-17-2007, 04:13 PM O god, Im lucky I have a company vehichle
skottfree 10-17-2007, 04:32 PM I get no better than 11.5 mpg.
age399 10-17-2007, 06:15 PM when I drive mine in NYC it reads 5.2 also
timster 10-17-2007, 08:48 PM Here's my stupid question of the day... How do you reset it?
press the reset button while displaying MPG

Not if he is letting it idle a lot.

DanDE 10-18-2007, 07:03 AM It will get better. Relatively...
First couple of weeks engine tolerances are very tight. Expect 10-15 for a variety of driving conditions.
yaccster 10-18-2007, 07:34 AM For the record, stock except for MOPAR CAI and Exhaust, get an avg of ~13.8 here in DC (2'nd worst traffic in the nation). Mostly local trips now days, no complaints.
Have to plug my own post relative to this too:

jeepinjunkie 10-31-2007, 11:19 PM How often are you guy's resetting your MPG display?
What kind of average do you all think you'd get if you didn't reset the MPG calculator for a few months?

I've NEVER reset mine, ~18,000 miles.
SinOrSwim 11-01-2007, 06:29 AM I have no idea how many miles per tank of gas. I fill it up when it gets low and don't really care!
Enjoy your ride.
