2007GCSRT8 08-10-2006, 09:33 AM I tried to send you a PM, but your box is full. So I guess I'll just post what I wrote you.
I just joined the red board today, I have been dabbling around the blue board for a couple months. I saw the thread you started on the door molding. Is that your jeep you posted the pictures of? If so, it looks great! My question is, what kind of rims and wheels are those? I'm sure I would eventually find out the answer by hanging around the board, but I thought I might as well ask.
Or, does anyone else know...?
Yes, it is his companies project truck. The wheels are from WTW. They are Giovanna wheels, custom machined for the GCSRT. They turned out excellent. Any reputable forged wheel company will make wheels to your specific specs. Mine are almost done and I can't wait :)

Please post pics and specs. 22's ?
Can't wait to see myself.

The WTWs that rm360 had made are 22s, but am not sure of the width he went with. They are very cool looking. I'm not a fan of 5 spokes typically, but I really love the ones he used.

Mine are a bit different. They are 22 x 9.5 in the front and 22 x 10.5 in the rear. They are Davin Speed SP2. They are a forged 3 piece wheel. The 7 spokes will be chrome, with one spoke having a black carbon fiber inlay. The round hardware you see will be black, the lugs will be black, and the entire barrel (both pieces) will be black. Here is a picture of the wheels.... obviously with the black barrel mine will look quite a bit different, but you get the idea.

Backspacing?
Randy's are 35mm offset front and 55 rear. I belive mine are nearly identical. Davin actually found a GCSRT to take the specs before starting the build on my wheels, and I'm not totally sure what numers they ended up at.
2007GCSRT8 08-10-2006, 12:08 PM Do the bigger rims/tires have an effect on acceleration or anything else?
If there is more rolling mass, then yes, it would certainly slow down acceleration. However, these 3 piece forged wheels with tires will likely weigh less than the stockers (1 piece wheels-- even forged-- tend to be thicker and heavier than a multipiece, and the runflats are very heavy tires).
Randy went with Pirelli rubber, and I will go with Toyo.
Black_SRT8 08-10-2006, 12:50 PM ^^^ Toyo Proxy - that would be my choice.
How much do the stock rims weigh?
I've had the proxes for several years now and have always loved them.
As for stock weight... I'd really have no idea. They'd gotta be 85+ pounds though, per corner (including rubber).
Black_SRT8 08-10-2006, 01:16 PM I can find the weight of the run flats, but not the rims.
Does anybody know the weight of one stock SRT8 GC rim?
How much do the run-flats weigh?
Black_SRT8 08-10-2006, 01:46 PM How much do the run-flats weigh?
Front = 36 lbs.
Rear = 40 lbs.
Finding out wheel weights for stockers was like pulling teeth :)
Front (according to Chrysler) is 4 pounds Yes.... 4 LOL
Rear 45 pounds. So I'm guessingthe front is probably 40-43 pounds.
So add rubber and the fronts are 76-79 pounds, and the rears are 85 pounds.

:D @ 4 lbs. My guess is 40, but they forgot the 0.
My 22 combo will weigh 67# front (33 for rubber and 34 for the wheel) and 73# for the rear (36 for rubber and 37 for the wheel).
So going with my aftermarket 22s, I will be 9-12 pounds lighter on each front corner, and 12 pounds lighter on each rear corner. Not bad!
Overall I will be 42 to 48 pounds less rolling mass.

You may see an increase in acceleration with a 22" wheel upgrade, go figure:confused:
With the heavy stockers, I am thinking 24's will have parallel or similar weight, depending on the rim...

The 285/40R24 toyo weighs 46 pounds, so even with a lightweight forged wheel you might be slightly heavier than stock-- but not too much :)
Here are those 285/40R24 toyos on my last ride. The wheels were a 3 piece forged GFG wheel.

Black_SRT8 08-10-2006, 02:59 PM Again, nice whip! I was looking at the new 24" Toyo Proxes
295/30R24 - They weigh 39 lbs.

They are perfect, and you won't be sorry. Toyo is an awesome company to work with. What kind of wheels have you got in mind?

I like them thin and deep...

Very nice looking indeed. Gianelle is another WTW wheel and I had great dealings with them. That's a one piece, cast wheel unless Gianelle has just recently introduced multipiece forged wheels, so your weight will be considerably more. But they are great wheels. Have you considered them with the black cap? Also-- be ABSOLUTELY certain that they will fit our application. The calipers make wheel fitting very tricky for us.

Black_SRT8 08-10-2006, 03:30 PM I am not sure if they fit, but caliper clearance is the not problem, the website simply does not list a 24 for the GC. They do list a 22 5-spoke for GC, so I thought the 24 6-spoke would fit. I am disheartened to hear about the heavy wheel, because I will only upgrade to original weight of the wheels and tires.

Any recommendations for a lightweight 24" wheel?
Black_SRT8 08-10-2006, 03:32 PM How do you solve the caliper clearance problem. 35mm offset?
Remember, our GCs have different wheel fitting requirement from the standard GCs.
Truly, the only thing close to 'lightweight' in a 24 is going to be a multipiece forged wheel. Cast wheels will be extremely heavy, in comparison.
And yes-- to solve the fit issues, backspacing or offset needs to be customizable at the build time. There are several cast wheels that fit. DropStars make s afew, TIS makes a few, MHT makes a few and there are others, but if you want 24s-- even going forged, you may have difficulties staying at stock weight.
Black_SRT8 08-10-2006, 03:40 PM Davin customized your rims? Can you give me the specs?
Absolutely-- ANY reputable forged wheel company will build exactly to your specs. Davin is back east so they are closed now, but I'll call them tomorrow and get the exact specs for you.

That would be greatly appreciated, thanx!
One more question, what is with the one black spoke in the picture you posted?
Protocav 08-10-2006, 04:48 PM i actually work for a 3-piece wheel company, and i took measurements of my truck for wheels today (for a customer, not for me). i weighed the wheel and tire packages as i took them off because i was curious. the fronts were 72.2lbs, and the rears were 77.6lbs. tirerack says that the tires weigh 36lbs front and 40lbs rear, so the front wheels should weigh 36.2lbs, and the rears should weigh 37.6lbs.
you guys should definitely be careful with your tire sizes, since we have an all wheel drive vehicle. the closest match for overall diameter on 22" wheels are 265/35-22 front, and 295/30-22 rear.
hopefully this helps.

What do you recommend for offset and backspacing?
The single black spoke is kind of a Davin trademark look. They try to always have one spoke different in their racing line of wheels. It's a black carbon fiber inlay.
And yes-- the two tire sizes posted above are what I'll be running. I believe they work out to 29.1 and 29.3 inches.
Protocav 08-10-2006, 05:30 PM personally, i think the stock rear fitment is perfect, and the front sticks out too much. there is not a lot of room under there, but i like a 9" front, with a +38 offset, and a 10" rear with a +49 offset. that brings the front in 3mm, and pushes the rear out 1mm. you could go with a 9.5" front, and a 10.5" rear, but you will be running the same tire sizes, so it doesn't make sense.

Two of your tires are not M&S rated. What does this mean, and is it disadvantageous?

M & S is simply Mud and Snow. With an all wheel drive vehicle that won't see mud, and rarely see snow, this doesn't bother me at all. Toyo has sponsored my last two rides and I've been driving Proxes for about 5 years now (all either 4wd or AWD vehicles) and they handle fine for me-- m&s rated or not.
