: Thud/Rattle - Drivers Side Rear Door/Cargo Area
sentipede 10-11-2007, 07:27 PM Well,
I have had this rattle, more like a thud, for some time and have had enough of it. It is coming from the drivers side rear, maybe the rear door, but most likely from behind there in the cargo area. The sound is definetly in the interior and the thud/clunk only occurs at slower speeds when turning into a drive or incline.
It's driving me nuts.....Any ideas?
Thanks in advance...
I haven't heard of this exact sound, but :

sentipede 10-13-2007, 06:47 AM thanks srt8, i saw those earlier, but cant figure these out for the life of me.
i also have a high pitched squeaky noise over bumps, towards the passenger side rear. these things drive me nuts!
hopefully the dealer can fix them.
thanks again...
kman999 10-13-2007, 03:18 PM yep, have the squeaking issue from rear driver side door area. always sounds like it coming from rear seat. there's an issue about rear spring isolators, but when I bounce the truck up and down, there is no squeak, so not sure if its that. has something to do with the frame moving in relation to the suspension or something. really annoying, like a "velcro" like squeak if that makes sense. I did notice something the other day...had the rear seats down and had some heavy junk in the back and the creaking/squeaking seemed to go away temporarily, but still stumped.
Two other noises I remember threads on were the Ebrake cable & the rear shocks being loose. The noises I had were definitely a rattle from plastic bouncing around inside the door panel. Let us know what your dealer finds.

thats it, it happens when turning into a driveway or some sort of incline when there is some sort of flex ocuring and then it creaks like a boat...
kman999 10-20-2007, 08:44 PM OK, very strange thing happened last night...its good though!
My wife borrowed the truck last night. It was a torrential downpour, never seen that kind of rain up in Montreal for a long time. I came back from a tennis game late last night, so didn't drive it right away, but the next day..guess what the squeaking from the rear seat/door was GONE! drove all day today the noise is completely gone, I can't explain it! very strange...but I ain't complaining. Lets just see when it comes back...:(
goshawk 10-20-2007, 09:15 PM Yep. I got 'em too. I had a 2007 SRT8 and had them and new 2008 SRT8 has the same noises coming from left rear quarter panel area. sounds like something loose in a storage compartment but there's no compartment. It's something common to all as I've had it in 2 new SRTs. I'm looking. I'll let y'all know if I can isolate the noise.
barho 10-21-2007, 08:32 PM YES!!! Someone else with this damn issue!! I have had the same thud in the driverside rear for some time now. Same exact problem...only at slower speeds and going up an incline like my driveway entrance! Very annoying, and something that I am going to have addressed at service shortly.
Let me know if you figure it out.
tainui 10-22-2007, 12:45 AM All wrong.
Open the drivers rear door and give a small push (outside-in) against the doorjam right where the latch is. You'll hear the creeking sound. It comes from the seam between the upper and lower halves of the body and there is no cure. Its body flex and most are seeing it within 20k miles. Common to the body style so I'm told.

I really hope that is not the case because it is driving me nuts. It really sounds like something is loose back there as it will make a multiple thud noise like something is bouncing back and forth back there.
DanDE 10-22-2007, 11:46 AM Don't know if you saw this thread, but it was a great find by generalconfusion:

barho 10-22-2007, 01:06 PM ^ Yeah I checked, that's not the problem.
kman999 10-23-2007, 03:46 PM I can't reproduce the noise by pushing against the doorjam (tried a few places, no luck). I don't have what sentipede reports. theres no bouncing or looseness, but I am thinking its more the body flex problem tainui mentions. But there must be something I can do, since when it rains, something gets "lubricated" and the squeak/creak stops.
Tainui, where exactly are you pushing? Where is this seam?
Thanks
