: IT WAS A BAD DAY! a must read for everyone! (Pothole):(
my02grand 10-01-2007, 07:38 PM Well, i am no SRT owner, but i do drive that black commander on a fairly expensive set of 24'' dvinci wheels. ( why these wheels) b/c i hate fake rivits and wanted a nice clean flow. Anyway thats beside the point. Coming home from work last night i hit the biggest pot hole i have EVER encountered while driving with my wheels. Needless to say today i had to put my stockers on. My R front is bent on the inside and will not hold air, and the R rear has a bubble and light surface scratches on the lip. I am more upset than anything. Is there anything i can do? Is it possible to go after the township or state (pending who maintains the road) Lastly, damn, i wish my wheels were a true 3 piece now :(
Hotscott7 10-01-2007, 07:42 PM Is there anything i can do?
Get a big Hammer
mrfreeze 10-01-2007, 07:44 PM i know here in md you can file a suit in small claims court against the state or city for this.but you have to provide pic's along with tape measuremnets of how deep the hole is and how wide it is along with other stuff"paper work"..i had the same thing happen to me when i had my 350z took me about a month to settle everything with them.i got a qoute for 2 new rims and they sent me a check for the amount..
1BAMFR 10-01-2007, 07:45 PM I have heard of people sending there receipts to the state and trying to get refunded. But good luck, They prolly will say, no go cuz there aftermarket.
my02grand 10-01-2007, 07:48 PM I have pictures, and now that the wheels are dismounted i can provide detailed pix. When i say the whole was HUGE i **** you not!

Lets see the pics
my02grand 10-01-2007, 08:00 PM im uploading a few pix of the pothole now. no pictures of the wheels yet. i will tomorrow during the day outside
srt8dork 10-01-2007, 08:09 PM dude it doesnt matter if they are aftermarket, its the state, hes not trying to warranty work from chrysler. I know for a fact in VA you can file a claim with V DOT. Or, and i did this with USAA so you will have to check with your insurance company, but i called USAA and explained what happened, and they sent a claims inspector out to check out the damage to my wheel and take pictures and what not, then i showed him where the pothole was and he tooks pics and everything of that, and the insurance company gave me the check, minus deductible, and then THEY filed the claim with the state, and reimbursed my deductible when they got their money from the state.
SI_G35Coupe 10-01-2007, 08:09 PM i've had the same thing happen with my 19" aluminum wheels... are yours a polished lip?
if so, it's a relatively simple affair to have them repaired. my wheel repair guy here in Long Island charged me like $120 to take out the dent and re-polish the lip.

my02grand 10-01-2007, 08:14 PM My dad says this road may be maintained by the township. do i take the same steps/actions as i would with the state (penndot)?
m3_il 10-01-2007, 08:14 PM that bent a wheel? btw take it to wheels america
my02grand 10-01-2007, 08:18 PM m3- no, it didnt bend a wheel, it bent two wheels
2BADGN 10-01-2007, 08:22 PM That sucks dude. However, get use to it. All roads in PA are like this. Worst roads ever.
my02grand 10-01-2007, 08:28 PM Yeah man, i know better than to put anything bigger than 22's on a ride here in PA. It doesn't pay to have nice "wheels"
Hotscott7 10-01-2007, 08:32 PM Thats what happens when you have to short of sidewalls. I mean with a better sidewall you would have had no problems. Because honestly that pothole is not that bad. And I am in no way sticking up for the state or county or whatever cause the roads are sh*t in this country. But that is kinda the gamble you take with a short sidewall. On a vehicle that expensive I am sure you have insurance. Either call them or just get the rims fixed. Its going to be easier in the long run.
http://www.fixrim.com/ They are good
Jred22 10-01-2007, 08:41 PM That's a pretty good sized pothole. But with sidewalls that small, you might have trouble getting the state to pay up.
my02grand 10-01-2007, 08:44 PM Thanks guys, yes i was NOT happy when i went to pick up my commander and realized the tires that were mounted (275/25/24) were not WHAT i ordered (275/30/24)
Lonebull 10-01-2007, 08:55 PM obviously never been on the BQE...we hit those on purpose, just to avoid the 8" deep x 12" wides...after a few snowstorms there 3' x 3',kids play army in them...lol
but it sucks all the same about the rims..
tommy25000 10-01-2007, 09:09 PM you might hate fake rivets on wheel but if you had bought ones that were real 3 piece like asantis you could have done what i did when i bent a wheel... send it in and get the bent part replaced. it took 2 weeks but i didnt have to buy a new wheel
gpfarrell 10-01-2007, 09:16 PM Uhh... I've driven in PA all my life. We really don't have a climate that will tolerate 24" wheels.
The picture you posted doesn't look so bad to me. Unusual for this time of year, but not unusual for PA. We're far enough North that everything freezes at night in the winter and far enough South that it all thaws again the next day. We get more freeze/thaw in a week than most places get in a year.
Get your wheels fixed and sell on Ebay or you'll be doing this all over again. Better luck next time.
my02grand 10-01-2007, 09:22 PM Tommy, I guess you didnt read my last sentence? "i wish my wheels were a true 3 piece now"
my02grand 10-01-2007, 09:24 PM This was my second choice, I didnt want to wait the amount of time to have these made.

PALELLA 10-02-2007, 03:19 AM Try to get the township or whatever to pay. In the meantime, see if Wheels America, Transwheel, Keystone, or similar company will repair them. Also, post pics of the wheels. Are they cracked at all or just bent?
SI_G35Coupe 10-02-2007, 06:23 AM lets see the pics man. it's probably not as bad as it looks.
don't feel bad b/c you have 24" wheels... i bashed my 19" cast aluminum wheel on a pothole very similar to the one you hit, and came out of the house the next morning to find the tire deflated. i feel your pain.
(the pic below was after i *gasp* banged the thing about a dozen times with a 2x4 and a hammer to bend it back enough to seal the tire)

my02grand 10-02-2007, 09:33 AM SI thats how mine looks i will post pix today
1BAMFR 10-02-2007, 09:46 AM That sucks dude. However, get use to it. All roads in PA are like this. Worst roads ever.
Heard that, They don't even plow the snow half the time, and give you like 50 ft. to enter the highway, Gotta punch it just to get on
Another thing for everyone to keep in mind with low profile tires: lower psi drastically increases the chances that a pothole like this one will damage your rims. In all honesty, not trying to bash you (because the same thing has happened to me on my 19's), the pothole you hit was not bad at all. If your tire pressure was higher I almost guarantee that pothole would not bend a rim.
Still, however, I feel your pain and I would be PISSED.
That "pot-hole" doesn't look like a pot hole to me...we have some nasty holes here too, maybe it is the angle?
It doesn't matter what I think though...sorry for the damaged wheels bro...that really sucks.
I would try to get it paid for, but I wouldn't even know where to start.

I would have to agree with this statement. I had 30 series tires on my slammed F-150 and hit some really bads roads from Texas to Louisiana and was really diligent about checking the air pressure.
I bent a Blitz 3-piece 17-incher on a similar pothole....but had never hurt on on my 20/22-inch combo on the Ford....go figure.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
