What the hell is wrong with people?

I immediately took it to get washed and the paint is destroyed where the egg impacted the side of the car  It looks as if it got tapped by a hammer.

This is the second car that has been damaged in SF because people here are sh#t!

I'm moving.

They just can't stand when people have nice things. No sense in moving as you get that kind of attitude most anywhere.

I was driving down a road in the Viper with my ten-year-old son when a car full of teenagers (going the opposite way) threw a chocolate shake at my windshield. Could have caused a major accident but thank God no other cars were coming.

The girllfriend and I have been talking about getting out of here for a while now.

I bought the Jeep in January because my Z06 got run into while parked 4 times in December alone, the last time who ever hit me peeled the entire driver side headlamp assembly up.

Two weeks after I got the jeep, the driver side mirror was taken out. Since then the bumpers have been hit at least 5 times.

At least 3 times in the last 4 months people have used our front steps as a urinal. My girlfreinds flower garden in front of the house has been damaged, destroyed, uprooted several times.

I've had it. The house is going up for sale, I'm wrapping up my project and moving on to greener pastures.

what part of the city do you live in? I used to live in SF and could never imagine owning a car out there unless i had it park in a garage. There is never any open spaces anywhere!

Chrism,

I live right in the middle of the Castro (Market & Castro). My girlfriend owns the place but as a result we have no parking (unless I want to rent one for 300 a month). When I first moved to SF ('05) I rented a condo with parking for the Z and all was fine.

As soon as I moved to the Castro, my stuff just started getting damaged. It is a place where people come to "party" so things get out of hand. 10 people got shot last Halloween because of some gang intitiation. A guy walked into a crowd of 200,000 and opened fire.

I don't need to live here anymore. It is not well suited for my lifestyle. If I want to be around animals, I will simply go to the zoo.

That sucks man. Can you at least report it so the police are aware? Maybe if they catch the people doing it, they will pay to get it fixed. (Wishful thinking)

Good thing about my neighborhood (even though its older) is there are so many cops, firemen, etc. that live in it. Plus a few real pro-active neighbors that will go on walks/runs/cruise around the neighborhood at random times, including the night. Not much has ever happened here and I'm thankful

Hey se7en,

I am up in Windsor, just north of ya. It is nice up here in wine country and a lot safer. Just got my 08 1 month ago and maybe we should do a meet and greet up here and I can show you around. Good luck with your decision and I am with ya about having to move due to scumbags like that!!!

NipEater,

I hear what you're saying but "expensive" is an understatement. Typically housing here right now is about $700-800 per sq. ft. For us to live in a slightly nicer neighborhood with a garage and all the fixins puts in the 1000-1300 per sq. ft. range.

I do okay but cannot afford 1.3m for 1000sq ft flat with a garage. Similarly our 1000ft flat, if we were to rent it out would go for about 31-3300 a month without a garage. No matter how you cut it, if you want to live in the city, you have to shell out "big".

I was in SF on business a few months ago. This was the first time I've been there since I was about 10 years old. First observation was that I loved the city. The second observation was that they hated cars. This was further demonstrated the following day when I saw like thousands of bicycles flying down the freakin' hills. I later learned that this is something that they do monthly to protest cars? It was interesting. The ironic part of this was the 2 helicoptors following the bikes (to make sure there weren't any attacks on motorists) probably used more fossil fuels following this "event" then if every single bicyclist were driving a SUV. ;) But anyway, maybe the SRT8's wonderful 12 mpg makes it more of a target then lets say a Prius.... heck, all you need now is a George W sticker on the back and you'll get your car peed on every day up in San Fran. :)

shheeess move to houston, i live in a golf course community, 3800 sqf house, 2 car garage, can park 8 cars in the driveway and was only 164k. not to mention my backyard is 140 x 90ft thats big for living in a subdivision.

We've toyed with the idea of moving to Houston for that reason. Property values are ridiculous in So Cal and even more so in my area. Still could be a possibility in the future.

Hi All,

I thought I would provide an update to this story/thread as it has surely evolved into a very odd chronology of events. I'm sorry for the rehash but see below.

So, my girlfriend and I have decided to sell our flat in SF in hopes of moving somewhere a bit more quiet and less expensive. Our broker suggested that we had a very narrow window of opportunity so we would need to stage the house almost immediately. We quickly tore down the house and prepared to move most everything into storage (minus a few personal posessions basic furniture for staging). The movers were scheduled to come to the house 2 weeks ago Sunday. The timing of all of this has proven somewhat difficult due to the fact that I am also trying to finish a major project at work and have been at work an average of 80-100 hours per week, 7 days a week.

1. Three days prior to the scheduled move out, I went outside on my way to work to find that the Jeep had been egged (where this thread began).

2. The morning of the move (Sunday) the movers were scheduled to come to the house at 9AM, Rachel and I had busted our asses getting everything ready to go. I had previously moved all of my home audio gear to a safe location where it would not need to sit in storage. That morning my dog started vomiting and his heart as racing. As soon the movers arrived, I raced Onyx to the hospital where they told me he had gone into full Vtac and they would do their best to save his life. Rachel joined me 3 hours later at the hospital after getting everything into storage, 15 minutes later Onyx, died. I cannot tell you the last time I have been this devistated.

3. 3 days later Wednesday (last week), on my way to work, I walk outside to find my front passenger window smashed, glovebox and center console contents emptied onto the floor of the car and my radar detector stolen. I had the glass repaired for $330 and thought to myself I'm glad I did have any expensive audio in there. Note that this happened less than 50ft away from where the car had been egged the previous week.

4. Saturday morning (this weekend), parked up the road on a steep hill, well away from the two other instances (I can be taught), again on my way to work, I found that my car had been hit. It appears as if someone was trying to make a U-turn and failed. The drivers side rear door and rocker panel have been smashed in. No one left a note. WTF is wrong with people!!!!

5. This morning, parked 20 feet away from where the car had been hit earlier this week, I found that the car had been broken into again. This time the entire car had been gone through. A packed box with all of Onyx's stuff, toys, bed, etc. had been stolen, along with numerous other personal posessions that had been boxed for storage. I GIVE UP!

Again, my goal here is not to complain or milk sympathy, but seriously, WTF is going on here???!!! I'm not superstitious but feel like my personal life is under some sort of cosmic attack here. I'm exhausted from working and am having a hard time rationalizing all of this. Obviously we're trying to get the hell out of dodge, but I don't know if I can afford another week here.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thx!

And if you can't make major bank here, you won't be able to do it anywhere. May be a bit redneck'ish, but damn, the people are all good with whatever may be your passion. I have had sports cars, an H2..never a problem. Ever. Ok, maybe 1. Back in '99, some cow, under her breath, said my Navigator was nothing more than an expensive Expedition. But that was the extent of it.

Also, 3 wonderful words: Right To Carry! :D

If it makes you feel any better, my 3 week old GC got hit this weekend in Chicago, and of course, no note. Dealership estimate is about 1100, buddys body shop estimate is about 700.

I was pretty pissed, but I cant imagine how you feel right now.

Thats ****ing terrible. Is there any way you can rent a garage space for a month or so? Maybe check craigslist? SF seems to be absolutely full of vandals, last time I was down there I noticed that nearly every business had graffiti etched into the windows.

There are a couple of places that I could rent from, I'm seriously thinking about it at this point. It is about $250-400 a month right now so that would certainly hurt. I'm also going to check out a few garages near work to see if I can find something cheaper and store it until I move out. Even my work charges me $160 a month to park at work and I'm not allowed to overnight it.

Yes, it sort of "feels" personal but I don't think that it is. The only person that I may have gotten into it with is my girlfriend (because I'm working too much) and no, she's not a suspect here. Honestly, I don't know anyone in my neighborhood although it is a pretty key "party spot". Keep in mind, I'm almost 35, I don't really get into dust-ups very often anymore.

I think the egging was either "drunks" or "eco-terrorism".

The first break in looked like a quick and dirty break and grab. They did not open the doors and only grabbed what they could reach from outside of the car. I suspect they broke in for the radar detector. Theres a lot of homeless people here so even something that can be pawned for $20 probably justifies the break in.

Here's the other thing, everything that was stolen this morning (from the back of the car) was inside the vehicle during the first break in. That's why I parked it at the top of the hill (this thing is STEEP). We ususally joke that "crack-heads don't climb". This time, no broken windows, everything was taken from the car, even things like registration and insurance papers that had been rummaged through but left last time. I'd have to guess a different **** head entirely.

Lastly, the accident. This town is notorious for people backing into each other causing damage and not leaving notes. My previous ride (Corvette Z06) was backed into 4 times in December, the last time they pealed back the entire headlamp assembly. That's when I traded it in on the SRT (my criteria: a Z06 with bumpers). Since buying the SRT it has been bumper tapped at least 5 times and lost the drivers side mirror once. The bottom line is people here cannot drive and have no respect for the property of others. I suspect the side impact was just a drunk trying to pull a U-turn.

Lastly, here's a couple pics of my best friend, taken a few weeks ago.

I am truly sorry for your loss.

Here is what I would do..

Buy another dog and rent a Hummer H1 and park it in front of your apartment with the Jeep.

Rent the place across the street.

Buy a shotgun and wait.

Re-enact the movie Hostel.

Let the dog eat.

Move to a red state.
