: 90+
MARK16 09-12-2007, 03:12 AM 7am start, full tank of 97, box of AP's in the back and a couple of laptops - 200miles of motorway to go.
I've done this journey many times but today's was to test the Jeep. Usally travel about 90mph on the motorway, get me there without being noticed too much !
About 50 miles into the trip got passed by a big BMW 5 series (diesel) with a couple of suits in the front (95mph). Road was clear so dropped it down a notch and caught up. BMW nugged up to 100, still on its tail, it moved over and I floored it 120 in no time at all ! Hit the morning rush hour and had to slow down, I could see the suits coming right up close to see what had flown past them - a jeep!
Traffic eased off and onto the only toll road in the UK ! Again about 90. Saw a couple of HID's in the distance. M5 passed about 105 !!! Nothing on the road so I floored it and got on his tail. We both kicked down and I swear I the needle hit the 160 mark and I was still on his tail, not gaining not loosing. Beat him through the toll booths but he caught up later in traffic and BIG thumbs up from the suit in the front.
Return journey - Same toll road, came out of the booths and saw a M3 a couple of cars behind. Let him catch up wth me, I knew he wanted to pass. Again floored it and he kept up with me but couldn't pass, 140 this time. He pulled off at the next junction.
Getting dark now and 40 mile from home. A couple of HID's in my mirror. Pulled over and let it pass, Ford Focus ST. Okay, dropped it down a notch and easily caught up, 100mph. The ST tried to accelerate away but this was too easy, didn't even have to try !! Passed him with ease at 110 with plenty to spare.
Now 20 miles from home and crusing at 105 with the ST lagging behing at 100. Saw a couple more HID's that had been following at a distance for the past 5 miles. Slowed down to 90 and woooosh, Aston Martin 120mph +. Not sure which Aston it was but could not catch it. When it slowed down for traffic and I eventually caught up we both floored it and it was like I was standing still - must of been the DBS !
Home 8pm, tank empty (but average of 17mpg still showing !!) - This jeep is fast.

Damn!!! I miss Europe!!!!
This scenario, If it would have happened Where I am from, would have ended with a jail cell and maybe a big accident..(In the US, drivers arent as considerate)
I Dream of driving my Jeep in Europe....I want to hit the Autobahn in Germany first.....Then the mountains in Spain.....and so on...
Jeep Trick 09-12-2007, 07:04 AM How I miss driving in Europe. It just seem that everybody is just so much more aware of how to drive and driving etiquette Every time I return to the states I shed a tear knowing that I have to come back to S Fla. I swear either people don’t have drivers lic or the must sell them at 7-11 (you think I’m kidding:( ) I think Miami or S Fla was named the most unfriendly or just plain worst place to drive in the US. This sucks.
Although, In Europe I sure wish (In some cities) they would improve street signage and layout. I swear half the people that live there don’t know how to get around. There’s nothing better than driving 40 and trying to spot some small a$$ street sign on the side of some building that may or may not be there  I'm just saying
I am assuming that the U.K. is typical of all of Europe
OurZoo 09-12-2007, 08:17 AM Sounds like a fun days worth of driving.
borracho 09-12-2007, 08:45 AM Guys, we may be a bit more likely to drive like this, but the punishment for 120+ speeds would still be pretty severe ...
I just came back from a 2300 mile Europe trip, loaded up with camping equipment and my three kids. I got a good autobahn dose, but the highest I could get was 155 before traffic slowed me up. Cruising along at 120 for long periods is a great luxury, though.
We visited the Nurburgring on the way home and I got a lap in, with all that equipment and offspring in the back. It took about 12 minutes and didn't handle too well, but was a chance not to be missed. I'd love to get back there unloaded and see what I can do.
Meanwhile, I'm happy crushing the spirit of all comers on the roads of southern England!

I hate you. I really, really hate you. ;)

Yep, I think I was having a MAD day - would usally leave that type of driving at the track !!
Nurburgring sounds great.
NitroCrzy 09-12-2007, 12:12 PM Saudi is pretty fun to drive.... scary drivers here aside the police don't really patrol or enforce that much. I've had my Jeep pushing a 100 many times. Although, the penalty is severe should they enforce things.... 140kph gets you three days in jail. 180+ a week.....

You must of never drove in Houston traffic in Texas:D You drive that fast you'd have a Helicopter over head, Texas State Troopers and County Sheriffs dept on your butt and thats after Mike Jones and his homies have tried to jack your ride and probably put a few bullet holes in the side of the jeep in the process:D Well not really Houston more like Jersey Village
renntech36 09-12-2007, 01:08 PM not being a pessimistic person at all, but there are a few flaws in your story which hold me to believe it is somewhat not true if the M5 was a new E60 V10.
1. An M3 keeping up would you would mean than an M5 would pull HARD from you. (unless it was an E39 M5, meaning not the V10)
2. If it was a V10 M5, there aren't Aston Martins that are any faster than that car. Even the DBS. I have a Vanquish S, the most powerful Aston Martin made to this day (more powerful than a DBS) and it would get pulled by a new M5. The new M5 is a beast of a car.
So I am lead to believe it was a 2000-2003 M5 which would make the story believable, and if so ;) , sounds like you showed some Beemer guys what a fast SUV is!
CentralTexHemi 09-12-2007, 01:23 PM Can I borrow your vanquish for a weekend:D I'm testing a theory about the whole green with envy, I think drool with envy is how it will turn out

Where did he imply that this was an E60 M5?

Yes, it was on 2002 plates. I've seen what the new M5 can do, especially with the 'M' button engaged ! I wouldn't have a chance.
I wonder what additional mods I would need to get any where near the new M5 ?
borracho 09-13-2007, 02:58 AM Just remember, anyone can be beaten if you have the will to do it. No amount of equipment can compensate for that.
Now I realise that these aren't the words of a sane or responsible car driver ... Imagine what would happen if I did make it back to the Ring without the full load ...
HoustonSRT-8 09-13-2007, 09:07 AM Just remember, anyone can be beaten if you have the will to do it. No amount of equipment can compensate for that.
True. I think the Jeep would fare better if he ran the M5 off the road. :D
