: Please help.....my new SRT8!!!
Rocket 09-06-2007, 12:03 PM  Hello,
Pick up my new SRT8 Red Rock yesterday.
What a great vehicle!
I removed the front and rear "Jeep" badges today.
I now have a few small hairline scratches in the Red Rock paint where a few of the letters used to be.
I am sick about this.
I have tried some different paint cleaners, but they don't help (like 3M fine cut, that is safe for clear coat).
I do have some touch up paint, but don't know if I could do that job without making more of a mess.
Please help?
Richard

Hey Einstein, it's a JEEP deal with it. When selling time comes (and it will) the JEEP letters will cost ya. ie: bad cheapo accident repair etc.
I'd sandblast the spots where the JEEP used to be cuz otherwise someone might think its a Viper.
:D
srt8hotrod 09-06-2007, 12:21 PM well that sucks, get some new badges and put em back on, hopfully both front and rear dont have scratches,be more carefull, and this is the first week ya had it hhhhmmmmmm
sbkim 09-06-2007, 12:23 PM wow, after reading this I will certainly reconsider taking the emblems off. I actually like the chrome accents. If the scratches are not too deep, you can try Meguiars scratch remover or if you have a random orbital sander (Portal Cable) use some 3M swirl remover with pad.

Yes brand new....I don't think I caused the scratches when I removed the letters...I was very careful...but maybe I did, not sure.

1BAMFR 09-06-2007, 01:24 PM This is why I had a Detail Shop take mine off for me. Looks perfect. If it's scratched pretty bad, I would buy the Jeep Emblems again and cover up your scratches.
DJ Red Barron 09-06-2007, 01:34 PM How did you remove the emblems? Fishing line or something similar is what I have used over the years on several vehicles. This usually works perfectly and doesn't harm the paint in any way.
As far as fixing what's been done, I would go to a detailer and see if they have a good cutting compound to get the scratches out then a nice polish to shine it back up.
Razorecko 09-06-2007, 01:50 PM you dont need fishing line or anything, just a good hair dryer and some strong fingertips to pry it off thats it...afterwards just gently wipe down the area with a wet rag to remove all the particles on the outside of the lettering than just wax the area down.
parkstephen 09-06-2007, 04:45 PM Sorry about that. Can you post a pic so we can see?
I would suggest a reputable detailer...who is really EXPERIENCED in color sanding or wet sanding. But I cannot express enough that they HAVE to know what they are doing. My guy is amazing at it, but he does work for Nic Cage, Eddie Murphy and Jack Nicholson. Se he knows his stuff.
Another alternative is a body shop to respray the hood. Probably about 2-300 - and it will be BETTER than factory.
What did you use to remove it? I have always used fishing line on most of my cars and never had an issue.
PALELLA 09-06-2007, 04:50 PM Just have a detailer or a body shop buff it out. If compound doesn't cut it, hit it with 1000 wetsand paper and buff. As long at the scratches are in the clear and not too deep they will come out.
billyboys 09-06-2007, 07:55 PM 3M Imperial Handglaze....it will only fill small scratches so you dont see them.
