: Any hitch solutions with Borla S?
9900rpm 09-04-2007, 04:30 PM Just spent the past hour searching on this forum for some info on a hitch solution for the GC SRT8 w/Borla S exhaust. Came up with nothing. Any ideas? Would hate to sell the exhaust to use the Curt hitch. Need something really soon. Thanks in advance.
9900rpm 09-06-2007, 04:12 PM Nothing????
DJ Red Barron 09-06-2007, 04:24 PM Nothing that I know of to date.
BOOST ALMIGHTY 09-06-2007, 04:31 PM I'll trade you my Curt hitch for your exhaust.... =-)
squigmang 09-06-2007, 05:00 PM take it to a local shop. surley any reputable welder could fab you something up without too much trouble.
Hotscott7 09-06-2007, 06:42 PM Does anyone have any pictures of the underside of the borla so a person could see what kind of hitch will work on the truck with this exhaust

I'll try to take some tomorrow. The Borla sits kinda high, and both mufflers are set together in the rear, and have a welded bracket/plate thing that holds them together in place. The tips are big too, so I really don't know how a hitch would work.....
I was looking for the pictures and info on the one GC SRT8 that has the hitch where he cut out a piece of the bumper, about 4 inches above the tips, on the painted part of the bumper. Anyone know what I'm talking about? That may be my only solution.

Damn, looking at how the Borla S sits, I don't even think the Curt hitch would work.
I did find the hitch I was talking about, where the owner cut out a square from the bumper, but his is a 1-off hitch, not available anywhere :(
Any other ideas?

9900rpm 09-07-2007, 02:52 PM That wouldn't work for me. Don't want to hack up the Borla S.

Here is the link to a recent post of mine. The pics are with the stock tips but I have recently added a magnaflow cat-back. Those are 4.25" rather than 5". To get enough room between the hitch and tips, I had to use a long cheater bar on the exhaust hangers which are welded onto the exhaust near the tips. The exhaust fit prior to bending the hangers, but was not enough room to wash the tips. I gave them a slight bend and you cannot tell I did anything to them. You can also manipulate the last section of the exhaust to make it fit right. This is what I did with the magnaflow (before the Borla S was in production) and I'm not sure how the 5" tips would fit. I'm sure it can be done though.

I had the Magnaflow exhaust before the Borla S, and they are totally different. With the Magnaflow, the 2 tips are seperate, where you can kinda turn them down if needed, where as the Borla has both mufflers welded together with these metal bracket/plate things (link in one of the previous posts had pics). Would you by any chance know how much the hitch hangs down from the very center of the bumper (on the center cutout for the exhaust tips, like the very very center). Maybe I can take measurements there to see what my clearance is. Also, is this the factory JGC hitch from Jeep? Is there a difference in models (Laredo, Limited, Overland)? Thanks in advance.
blueh20 09-07-2007, 10:15 PM The hitch protrudes into the exhaust tip opening of the bumper 5/8 of an inch. I Then have 3/4" between my hitch and the top edge of the magnaflow exhaust tips. The center of the tips are 3 3/8" below the hitch. I hope this answers your question. Also I think all the hitches are the same as long as it's a 2" receiver.

Here is the post of the hitch you where talking about there seems to be some good pics on 1st and 3rd pages that you might be able to use that for a shop to go off of.

Boy I hate to burst everyones bubble but the factory hitch works with the borla. I know because today I put the borla s on with the factory hitch I all ready had on. They will sell the hitch, without the factory turn down tips at least my dealer did. The factory hitch bolts on in such a way that I believe that about any after market cat back will work.

I will work on pics. I have never posted a picture but had not the hitch or cat back either. Hope the pictures go as easy
MNBob 06-18-2008, 07:54 PM I can tell you the steps I use to upload the pics. I am sure there are a lot of different ways to do this.
1. Hook up digital camera with pics on a USB cable.
2. Turn on the camera. The system asks if you want to upload the pics and you can choose which ones.
3. Convert the uploaded pics to the correct KB. I rename them and save them as jpg's and this site has a limit of 293 Kb for a jpg. The software included with my Canon camera allows me to adjust the picture size and resolution to get under the 293 Kb limit. I am sure there are other software programs to rerez as well (maybe Paint).
4. Use the advanced reply mode with the paper clip icon to upload the resized pics and include them with your reply.
There is also a sticky on how to post pictures here:
How to post pictures (http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11802)
Hope this helps!
By the way, can you give a description of the bumper removal for the installation of the Mopar hitch? How hard is this?
