: Is any suv faster?

My buddy's buddy took a ride in my SRT and instantly said "My buddies 4.8 BMW could beat this"

I'm a huge gear head, I don't know anybody who has a faster car than me *personally* and if someone does, I mod.

So when I heard this I was ercked that I didn't look into those, but I just saw the "you know your an srt8 driver if" And yall brought up the 4.8 and kinda giggled about it.

I looked up to see that, that 72,000 POS is slower than my G35 coupe (even sedan owners could spank it) When it was stock, Automatic.

I thought I bought the fastest SUV but

A. I didn't really care to much
B. Its for work

But stock for stock.. is there anything out there that does 0-60 or 1/4 mile faster than the srt8???

the ML63 will take it in the 1/4 and I think the new Porsche will as well. but 0-60 I would say no.

SRT8 is the fastest to 60, the ML63 barely edges it out in the quarter. The cayenne turbo is about even if not a tick slower, certainly not quicker.

From a highway roll though the SRT8 would probably lose to both the ML63 and the new Cayenne Turbo, but we all know racing from a roll is for ricers. :)

You're buddy's buddy is an idiot.

The ML63 and the Cayenne Turbo S, both of which are respectable pieces of machinery, will give us a run for the money. The BMW is out of it's league.

The ML63 will not win in the 1/4 mile after the 1/4 mile its a different story. The ML63 will not make up the distance the SRT8 puts on it at launch within the 1/4 mile. I go by real world results not stats in the mags we know those are BS!

As for the BMW 4.8 dont waste your gas, they dont get killed they get destroyed.

He says his buddy has an X5 with the M5 Engine in it, but I can't find anything about that... I guess I'll have to see it to believe it.

I'm not sure if racing from a roll is from ricers, but its the only way F/RWD cars can beat AWD.

I know with G35 guys thats the only way we could justify buying our cars over EVO/STi (that and the luxury) was if we could race them from any roll, we'd win.

THe old M5 is a few tenths slower than the srt8 and the new m5 is only a few tenths faster to 60. Even with the new m5 motor, i still think it would be pretty even, srt8 might even win..
who knows

you got lied to

bmw made a one off x5 prototype with a v12. thats it. no v10 x5 and no m5 v8 -though the 4.8 is close power wise to the e39 m5 its still slow. amusingly enough the e39 m5 is slower than the SRT8 too. I even walked one from a roll on the freeway.

Since when are dealerships a good source of information?

Why don't you try BMW's website? The most powerful engine that has ever been available for the X5 is the current 4.8 with 350hp. The current M5 makes 500hp from a 5.0L V10 and the previous generation M5 made 400hp from a 5.0L V8. Previous V8s were 4.6L & 4.4L. It doesn't really seem like your friend or your dealer knows what they are talking about.

I am a BMW enthusiast. My last 9 cars have been BMW's. I was going to get a X5 4.8 to compliment our X3 until I drove the Jeep SRT8. The X5 is nice but the Jeep offers all the goodies at a fraction of the price and is far tougher looking and sounding than the X5.

I test drove the ML and Cayenne before I got my Jeep, and they are both plenty fast, excellent machines. For what they cost, that is expected.

I think stock we are quicker to 60, and neck and neck with the ML in the 1/4 mile, a few ticks quicker than the Cayenne in the 1/4. I don't see the stock TBSS as a much of a competitor although it can be modded pretty easily to make good power.

I also believe that with a few miles miles on the odo, simple mods including a drop-in filter, B&G tune, and Corsa cat-back our trucks will hold their own against either of those pesky Germans.

Ricers like the roll becuase..

Ricers are typically japaneese cars built primarily for economy that must utilize very aggressive forced induction, turbos, in order to produce adequate power to make them able to compete with larger N/A engines. Racing from a roll not only eliminates the driver skill needed to manage shifting through the first few sets of gears and maintain traction, but it also allows the cars to launch from an already 'boosted' state, where turbo lag is not present.

Just like our vehicles are extremely tough to beat from a dig, with our large dispalcement, large low-end power, tall gears, and awd... turbo ricers exhibit the same extreme acceleration characteristics in the mid-high power ranges at highway speeds. Its pretty simple, we like the dig because that's where we do our best, and the same goes for the mo-diggity crowd with their boosted sushi-mobiles.

I'm very curious to see how my turbo JGCSRT8 will do on the highway :D Maybe I'll have the best of both worlds.

The revised 07 X5 4.8 is heavier, wider and longer than the 06 model. The 06 4.8 ran the 0-60 in 5.9. The 07 X5 4.8 runs it in arond 6.4 seconds. They cost around 70,000.

But, they ride like dream, handle well, and hold their resale. They also lease out very well. So yes, the Jeep SRT will blow it away, and there is no M engine in the X's....but it would be nice.

I alway wondered what it would be like to have the "from a dig" and "under boost" combined on the Jeep.....It would be amazing to have the pull that we have from the factory but without the sluggish high speed acceleration...

that would be AWESOME!!!!!

We would be able to spank a whole lot of vehicles from zero on up....

Well what is your definition of 'rice'?
I got by if it sounds fast or looks fast and isn't, its rice

IE. 95% of the mustangs on the road. (not so much the new ones)
Almost all the civics and lueds
Saturn Redlines
75% of srt4's

= My 'rice list' but anyone can do it.

By what you are saying tho... My G35TT is rice because it hauls ass after 3500 rpms? I know my take off blows, especially since im a 5AT, but i still run mid/low 12's.

I'm not so sure thats all 'rice' as much as just RWD...

If I was AWD i'd be an RB26 =) (Thats a R34 Skyline for the japan newbs =) )
