Greetings all,

I am about 90%+ sure that I will be ordering my 09 as soon as we get some confirmation on the 6.4L. Well, may be I am spending way too much time reading posts but I have been getting little concerned about being able to keep GCSRT8 for long term given some of the problems we have been seeing.

For me, I tend to buy my vehicles for at least 4-5yrs. I am sure Jeep has no problem lasting that long but I don't want to be plagued by constant visits to so callled 5 star my ass dealerships.

So here are my questions for you current owners:

1. Did you buy your GC for the long haul? Or are you planning to get out of it in 1-2 years?

2. I know it's still early for 08's, but can we see a brief listing of common issues to date. And most importantly, are 08 owners experiencing the same problems??? Just off the top, here is what I have been reading:

- Erratic steering/vibration - passenger side seat acts like a Sybian machine. Are most of you owners just accepting this as a normal, nature of the beast thing?

- Whinning rear gears

- Leaking tranny fluids/coolants - again, I understand this could happen to any car but it seems too prevalent

- Rear squeeky brakes - did TSB really solve this?

- Erratic/confused transmission - esp under WOT

As always, thank you all for your input!!

You forgot some....

Paint longevity issue
****TTy paint
grinding gears(not just whining)
Crazy noises...
Crappy dealers (yes this does matter)

I planned on keeping it forever....but I dont know about that anymore....

I would say that I Love this Jeep, but get the extended warranty and dump it before its up for the new one.

I hoped for better with the jeep, But I am still glad that I got it!!!
I knew it would not have been perfect, but I defenitely hoped for better...

I am still psyched about having it, but I will probably never get that way for another automobile again.

Cars are not what they used to be.IMO.....I remember the exceptional service my mom used to get from her Nissan dealer....The service was so good, that the dealer sold my family 8 different cars over the years....mom-4, sister-3, me-1
My mom became good friends with the service manager. She felt bad when she purchased her Navigator. She even called the nissan dealer before she bought the NAVI. NOW Thats some 5 star performance!!!!

Then the service I got from my chevy dealer and my mercedes dealer. While I would probably never buy a mercedes again, I would love to go to that dealer.

They fixed things that I didnt even know were broken. I would go for an oil change and they would have a list of bulletin items that they took care of....I was like"cool!". And the freaking car was out of warranty and 5 years old!!! I always got a loaner.

My chevy, There werent hardly any things that were broken, but they would fix them without problems. There was a brakelight wire thing and they were very cool about it.

I drove the chevy for 72,000 miles and had only 2 things that went bad the hubs, and the brakelight. The hubs were my fault.(airride suspension abuse)

I just figured that service would be at least as good as the service on my chevy blazer. But not the case.

My wife hasnt had hardly any problems with her Altima and the dealer is great......The service manager was so nice!...he keeps giving us free services and even gives us a discount because I am in the military!!!! That to me is 5 star!!!

JEEP SERVICE SUCKS!!

I would be fine with the issues with the jeep if the service was at least okay.

1. I plan on keeping it forever.

2. I have had no issues yet...just some strange but rare mygig behavior.

I almost have 500 miles, no vibrations, squeeks, squeals, rattles, leaks. Just some dirt on the paint - but I hope to fix that today.

I love this vehicle. Everyone that has been in it thinks it is sweet. It looks good, rides good, sounds good.

My 07 has been perfect!

Also, my girlfriend loves the passenger side sybian machine....

My 06 with 13000 miles has been perfect except off course the o-ring on the transmission that got swapped out during the first couple of months of ownership. I have no vibrations, squeaks, squeals, rattles, leaks, and paint is perfect by "me". I though see some uneven tire wear which is expected from a 5000 pounds hot rod. I have one TSB done and that was the ECU upgrade for the shift hesitation issue.

Ok - that's very reassuring to hear. I am sure some of the problems I read are one off and prob doesn't represent majority of owners - at least I hope.

My 07 has had some minor warrenty issues, sticky door latch, wiggy auto up window control and the rear brake squeek, as well as some suspension noise and the drivetrain whine, but outside of those this thing is awsome.

I had a jeep liberty crd, you want to see issues, go check those out. My turbo blew up at 20k miles, and the trannies have chronic issues that DC won't fix. The build quality on the gc is a world better then on the liberty.

I plan on keeping this for a good long time, the ultimate performance vehicle that can handle the 6 month canadian winters. I doubt there will be another srt vehicle that will be able to do that.

I've had my 07 for a month and a half, no problems, squeeks, rattles... nothing but fun. The orange peel paint is not state of the art, but other than that, so far, so great!

I'll have mine 5 years if all goes according to plan...

Toe - did the dealer address all of the problems you noted? If so how did they fix the drivetrain whine?

have my 07 srt8 since April with 5k miles now its been awesome only brake squeak had first oil change in nj at warnock their service has been subpar that said build quality is decent its a high performance vehicle so requires extra care and maintenance I'll keep her for at least 3 yes assuming she holds up well I'm a very happy owner so far

I'm keeping mine as long as I can handle a gas bill that is MORE than my bank note.

Seriously, I just did the math. I drive 3000mi a month, 12mpg @$3.40/gal = $850 A MONTH!!! IN GAS ONLY!

Yawsa... That's the first time I did that calculation... Hmm...

Oh well, this thing kicks ass! Ya! (I'll keep saying this until I want to buy a bigger house... and need the $$$!)

"Whinning rear gears"

this can be fixed with louder mufflers!

the only whinning i hear is another sports car owner crying! (only in my srt8 charger, patiently waiting for a GCsrt8)

$hit that kinda concerns me - I was going to take delivery from Warnock Jeep (I am in Whippany area). I looked at couple of GC SRT8 outside - both were darker colors and looked like crap with swirl marks everywhere. I presume they take it one of those 100% touch car washes :)

Well, you have to look at your plausabile alternative. Let's say even just my POS Ford Escape which gets 16mpg at $3.20/gal equates to $600 a month. So driving your bad ass GC means extra $200-$300 more... which is still alot.

Bought my 06 new about 10 months ago and so far (knock on wood) have had none of the problems everyone keeps talking about except I did have the tires replaced under the Goodyear call back (the originals looked perfect).

Now I have to admit that I am a retired guy that avoids bad weather and down town driving, because I can, and don't race my cars because I'm too cheap to fix them. But at 7000 miles this thing has required nothing but polish and oil changes. It is my daily driver and one of my weekend show cars (I also have a C5 Convertible that I show & play with). Mileage is consistantly around 15mpg and everything seems to work.

I must not drive it hard enough to experience the 1-2 shift delay that everyone has been concerned about so I'm still debating if I will have the TCM TSB done. My brakes don't make noise, never have - can't figgure out why. No heating problems...etc. Do you suppose it could be because I haven't done any modifications or I'm not beating the hell out of it?

I have always owned high powered muscle cars and second only to my 02 Lightning, this one is my favorite so far. I even enjoy driving it more than the Vette except on road trips.

I'm just waiting for the 09 or 2010 version to be announced with the 500+ engine and if it is still insurable and the baddest thing on the road I will be shopping for a new one and I will be back on here with a heck of a nice 06 for sale.

By the way, this thing gets a ton more attention at the car shows I go to than my trophy winning Vette because it is so rare. I Love it.

The latch, window and brakes, are all being replaced. The whine and squeek I need to take them for a test drive with me driving to point it out to them still, which they seem to be very willing to do, when I bring it back in to get the first 3 problems fixed next week.

If I was the tech I too would want to take any SRT8's for a test drive when they came in to the shop. :)

My '06 has about 14k miles through 18 months of ownership. No steering/vibration issues at all, this is not a widespread problem.

- Whinning rear gears
No issues for me

- Leaking tranny fluids/coolants - again, I understand this could happen to any car but it seems too prevalent
No issues on this either

- Rear squeeky brakes - did TSB really solve this?
Very light squeak, hardly ever happened, TSB performed and no more squeak.

- Erratic/confused transmission - esp under WOT
Perfect shifts from day one. Had Flash update, still perfect shifts.

This is for Toe, I have an issue with the front windows not functioning properly in the auto mode. The dealer is telling me Jeep representatives looked at it and currently have no fix for it. What was the fix for yours?

They are going to replace the actuator motor, the window looks like it's having some trouble moving up so it might be that. We'll see if it fixes anything.
