I spent some time detailing the GC yesterday. After about 2.5 hours of the radio playing CD's the battery was totally dead. This is the second time I have had this happen. How many amps does the radio pull? Has anyone else had this happen? I'm questioning my battery at this point. I can leave the radio on on all my other vehicles all day and still have no problem starting them.

2.5 hours of radio play with the car off sounds like a long time to me. I'm not surprised.

I've done the same thing plenty of times and have never had a dead battery. Sounds like you might have a few dead cells in your battery.

Seens to me like it should last longer too.
However, I'm not sure what else might be running while the radio is on... modern cars have so many automatic features that batteries are having a harder time keeping up.

If I was going to run the radio continuous like that, I'd at least turn her over once every 30-45 minutes.

Then again that is with 1600 watts pounding away......

I let it sit for a couple minutes and then it started up after letting it self level for a few....

We'll I'm not running 1600 watts. So I think it should last longer than it does. I have a clamp on the wire type AMP meter and when I get home I'm going to try to see if it will show amp draw with the key on accy and the radio playing. If it works I'll let you know what it's pulling.
I have had mine running for a couple hours before with no issue. Only 1450 watts though (JL 450/4 JL 1000/1). I am not driving the thing and any high volume though. I would say there is something wrong with you battery. A stock system should be able to play for like a day and the truck should still start.

i play my stock system at full volume every time i detail, 2.5 - 3h at a time, with no battery issues (yet).
whether this is a good idea or not.. the jury is still out on that one.

You said you had it happen before ? These are not deep cycle batteries. Doesn't take many full discharges to make them go bad. Be careful when the weather gets cold. My daughter did same thing to our Durango and battery died 1st cold weather snap. I'd do a load test on it at Autozone.
