I was going to work and a Mercedes came out from a light and was ahead of me on the secondary road. I came up behind him at the next light where he was the first car in the right lane and I was the second. I could read the SL55 and the AMG on the trunk so I knew it was a serious vehicle.

The light turned and we went about a half block and turned on the freeway ramp. I saw by the way he took the corner that he might hit it. He did and I was right behind at 30MPH and hit it at the same time. To my suprise he easily pulled away. I caught up a little at the end, but I think he might have let off because we were entering the freeway.

I got to work and went to mbusa.com and it said those things are 500+HP. I would like a chance to go again from a stop, as I think it would be more even.

I guess I need to get going with my mods. It was fun though, because I usually don't run into much serious competition.

If it had read SLK55, you would have smoked him, but the SL55 is the $100K+ supercharged V8 sports coupe. Yup... over 500hp, wouldn't have much of a chance from a roll with a mostly stock setup. From a dig might be interesting.

From a Dig, yes, you would take the real wheel drive AMG...for about a second or so...then it would be over, he would just keep on going...I had 2 jeep SRTs and one Bee, and have a 06 E55. You are not in the same league. Enjoy the Jeep for what it can do, not what it can't.

500 hp and supercharged. Stay away. Sweet cars... Take him from a light to light run though just to make him scratch his head a bit.

I've been trying to get my GF to run me in the SLK 550 to see how the Jeep will hold up, I'd rather lose to a MB than anything else at least its in the family, well used to be

I rented an SL 55 in Vegas last year. Had it for 4 days. Nasty vehicle. I'd be on the highway going 60, stomp on the gas and the TC light would come on, and then it would take off like a rocket. Definately a serious ride!!!

How do you like the E55? Anything to be cautious about before purchase? I will be trading the SRT8 soon for an E55 (runs low to mid 12's stock as you must know) or perhaps a 335i ($1200 gets you mid to high 12's).

Mine has been trouble free, outside of a window regulator needing to be replaced. If it has been maintained, you will love it.

I test drove a 335i months ago. Now to me, it did not appear to have the same kick in the pants feels that my JEEP or Bee had...I am not sure how a Procede Chip will get it down to the 12's, or under 5 for 0-60. BMW advertises it as 5.4 time, and a 5.7 for the vert. However, it is a nice car. Its just a small 3 liter with 2 small turbo's. Drive the E55, then drive the 335 chipped....you will still see a huge difference is power.

SRT8 will put a much bigger smile on your face than a 335i. The 335i is a much better "all-around" practical ride though.

In modified form,The SRT8 is just too much overkill for a lot of normal activities though, dinner dates, road trips, commutes, shopping... Headers+Heads/Cam+CatBack+CAI is just a loud nasty rumbling machine. Its my stress-relief, 335i is my daily driver.
