: SRT-8 as Family Car?

Hi all:

I enjoy reading all of your posts...they are very insightful. I had a few questions that I hope you can help me with.

How's the SRT if you have a kid? Do any of you have them? We're having a baby in November - we want something fun but need more room. Is it practical? (as far as moving stuff around) We test drove one and loved it...

Also, we live in Chicago. Is it good in the snow?

Thanks so much.

I bought my 06 six weeks after our son was born. He is now 13 months old, and the GCSRT has been great. We head to the NJ Shore just about every weekend in the summer, and there is plenty of room to carry him, us, our lugage, his lugage, his jumper, his stroller, etc.

It's a "practical" sports car. You'll be fine.

I have two kids (almost 6, and 3) and for the first 9 months, this was our family car. Car seats fill up all the room in the back seat, but it is definitely doable. A rear facing seat for an infant means you'll need to keep the front seats scooted a bit more forward than you might like, but it is a completely capable family car. We bought a Commander for my wife last Christmas, and I'm very happy that it has taken over as our family ride, but the SRT will fill your needs for sure.

Only thing I'd have a problem with is not being able to drive the JGC to its true potential with the kids in the car.

I agree with ge2. I have 2 kids (2 & 4) and this car is fine. The back seat is tight with 2 car seats. With 2 car seats there is no room in the middle for an adult, but another child (non-car seat) in the middle would work. In fact, I have a third child due this Sept. so I'll let you know how that goes. My SRT8 is not our every day family car but we do use it from time to time. If you buy a SRT8 with the rear DVD, you will also loose a little room on the floor in the middle for the player. Think about how many familes you see on the road with 2-3 kids in the back of a Civic. This is light years ahead of that. My kids love Daddy's car! I think it's a safe car too, it stops very well, has a lower center of gravity than most SUVs and is good in the rain/snow.

Like everone has said...it is great...

It was a part of the process of choosing this vehicle...has to be family friendly (and client friendly first). It fits both...so now all I have to do it wait some more for the truck to come out of storage...

I have an 8yr old....She Loves it in there....

Its part of the reason why I wanted the Jeep... what other cars can you buy that can keep up with some vettes, look VERY cool, carry a small family and provide you with sweet dreams at night!!!LOL

I mean, if you have like 4 kids, then you probably dont want the jeep for family trips, but with a couple of them, its great...

Where you at in chicago? Im in the burbs!

If you are thinking of buying, make sure you look up champion on this forum. His dealership is in Barrington. But you will be real happy to do business with him.

I hope it's a good family car. My '08 is replacing my Navigator as the kid hauler. I have a 4yo and a 2yo. The 4/yo just moved to a booster seat and my 2/yo is of course in a nice big Britax car seat.... the Britax has been a bit big for some other vehicles so hopefully it fits in the JGC.

I have 3 & 5yr old boys and the Jeep is our main family cruiser. No problems whatsoever.

I have two girls and they love the Jeep. Enough room for 4 of us and the DVD player keeps the younger one quiet. You have to decide if you want to feed the kid's or the Jeep. It is a gas pig!

Seriously why else would you buy the Jeep, you can haul A$$ and other folks and/or stuff.... Unless you just wanted to be stealthy.

Here is the main problem. When we are driving the SRT8 with the 5 month old in the car, you will find all of the races you wanted to run...SVT150, TBSS and so on. And you'll have to point to the baby as to why you won't run.
Or, you will take the other car, in our case the wife's 5.7 Jeep because you don't want to get the SRT8 dirty with kids and dogs.

:D :D :D

I've owned mine since April of 06 and have still never been approached to race :)

...once I get mine! Looks like the SRT it is! Thanks for all of you responses. Sounds like it will make the perfect "family car". Hope I don't give my new arrival whiplash...but I think there is a car seat attachment to prevent that :D
Maybe I'll just get him/her a racing helmet to go with the Elmo sunshade that will be on the rear window...

Your post just got me thinking. We have people selling all these SRT8 accessories, so why not make an SRT8 sun shade for the kids???
