I pulled up to a light on a main highway today coming from work and there I was, next to a new dark blue Z06. I was in the Jeep too, by the way. Anywho, I wasn't checking his car out but with my keen peripheral vision, I saw him looking at my dubs. The green turn arrow lit up and I could hear him giving it a little gas. I was like, is this guy gettin a little loco?? Does he really want me to embarass him off the line in front of all these other commuters?

So, in a matter of seconds, I kick off the A/C, turn off the TC and firmly pressed down on the brake while increasing my RPM's ever so slightly.The light turns green, I hear his wheels spin for a second but by then I was on my way to 3 car lengths ahead of him. At about 75mph, he let off. I could see his front end come down. Neither of us was looking to get our licenses revoked so it was short lived. I think he underestimated what I could do from a launch.

BEST PART!!!...

He gets up next to me, by then I had the windows up and the A/C kickin', and he looks over at me with a look that I can only describe as pride having been hoovered from his soul.

I mean I could read his mind and in his little head he was saying, "How dare you beat me like that?? In front of everyone, no less? Do you know what I payed for this thing? That shouldn't have happened!"

Haha, but it did happen.

It made my night. Damn that felt good. Long live this Jeep is all I can say.

He woulda torn me a new one if he would have gotten through second gear. It was the launch that killed him. I had a Suby STi that came close one time but I even got him by a car and a half up to about 80mph. That's why I love this thing. I am not regularly driving around at 120mph so having a true stop light-to stop light killer like the GCSRT8 is like cheating with the AWD.

Call me Bonds but I love hittin' these homers and today was a grand slam.

You have to love the sleeper quotient the Jeep brings, very few expect it and in this type of race they can't possibly win:

a) A Corvette beats a Jeep, ok so what?
b) Jeep embarrasses the Corvette, you've got to be kidding me!?

It's nice that we get to choose whether or not to take it on. I'm sure the vette guy is getting tired of being raced at every light.

nice pull but surely the guy cant drive--i also own an 07 Z06 and i have kooks header-B&B exhaust--intake and its dyno tuned and i can honestly say i think my jeep would take it till only about 20 mph--stock my Z06 ran 11.78 and my jeep ran 13.20---i love the truck and i think its great but i think we are getting a little carried away if we're going out trying to race Z06's or vipers in them--i say lets stick to the other fast suvs and mustangs--lol--yess i hate the pony cars--i would never call bs cause the night i brought my truck to the track there was a guy in a new blue Z06 running 12.70's--i was sad for him--i would say now my car has to be an 11.40-.50 car cause i have 547 horse at the wheels--havent been to the track though since it was modded

Totally agree...when I had my Jeep, my neighbor and I would play around with his 06 Z06. I got him initially, but then he just pulled, and I mean pulled. No way will a Jeep SRT stay with a C07 past 30. I gave him better runs with my E55. The stock Jeep is a 4.5 to 4.8 in the 0-60 and 13.x in the 1/4. This is becoming like the BMW forum where 335' are taking Vettes and SRT's.

My wifes X5 4.4 took a Honda Pilot and Durango. SHe lost to a Jeep 5.7.

I'm late joining the party on this thread but the dood drivin the Z06 can't drive. The new Z06 is a rocket ship to 60 and the 1/4 and can beat the Jeep with a good driver.

I hear ya but your not stock like our friend CMY... If your rig was stock in that race u may not have been as far out front at the start. In both cases, I still think a good driver of the ZO6 can do better. The Z06 can't be easy to launch.

Nice Kill.... FWIW though I don't think a C5 Z06 owner would ever sit and mull over losing in a short race...it's not as if your truck was half the price of his car or anything.

It is fun to catch people off gaurd and make them wonder what the hell just happened though. :)

My '01 Z06 was faster on paper than my '06 JeepBeast... but the GC is a robot/repeater and the Vette is a RWD 6-speed manual that takes a little more concentration to launch. The Jeep is more fun @ the stoplight drags.:D

I for one never said these JGC SRT8's can beat vettes, especially Z06's we arent geared for high end so its a lost cause to even try from a roll etc.

BUT from a dig light to light or even 1/8 of a mile its a drivers race, all these vette guys were and still are up in arms about that Z06 run you should see all the comments on my youtube page its like dealing with 5 year olds. They keep complaining that im modded up the a** or the driver of the Z06 cant drive, typical vette owners even when they win they complain, its pathetic.

WOW, didn't realize he was modded. That run you had has to be tough for any vette owner to swallow.

I cannot wait to partake in the fun! I am always looking for a race...up to the speed limit of course :D

Anyway...

For me, the greatest joy of owning the Jeep SRT is accelerating from a dead stop, preferably when first in line at a stop light. AWD, just bury the throttle and hang on. Sure we're slower than a bunch of other vehicles out there but we're sure quicker than a lot of people who don't know any better think. That's one of the Jeep's best features is it scares the crap outta people that don't have a clue, and if a high performance car that costs 3 times what your ride does gets a length or two on you, and has to work for it, who cares, that's a loss I'm willing to take!

Track times and street times for RWD vehicles are a little different. I doubt you run 11.78 on the street. Yes, you will be faster than the Jeep, but the Jeep will get the holeshot. It's all a matter of when you will pass the Jeep. If you don't pass it by the next stoplight, then it's a loss. ;)

I would say it all depends on how well they can hook on the street. I still think they would have to work at it a little bit, especially once they see how hard these jeeps launch.:D

I haven't read any of these responses since my last post (#3 I think) so I want to point out a few things...

1.) The C6 Z06 is REDICULOUSLY fast. Probably one of the top three fastest production cars on the road that you would see on any given day (up there with the Viper and 911 turbo). So when I said having the king stop light to stop light car, I should have added, "...next to the top three production cars that we see driving around regularly. I am including in my killings; Mustang GT500's and lesser Stangs, Corvette's, TBSS', other SRT8's and most Porsche's. PLUS, 99% of the F bodies on the road as well."

2.) I said we shut down at about 75mph and then later posted that he would have torn me a new one had he kept going. Whoever posted that "something was wrong with the driver of the Z does realize how fast 75mph comes up during WOT, right? Google SRT8 Jeep + C6 Z06 video and you will see the same thing. He could have had a better launch, sure but when the Jeep slingshots from the line, I haven't seen anything neck to neck with it, let alone a Z. Not to say there isn't something out there, minus a 5.0 with slicks or something of the like, that could.

3.) He might have been a poor driver. I did hear his tires spin at first but I was out ahead pretty fast so who knows if he could've been spinning or if he slipped a gear or what.

The point of the story was to tell of his reaction and that's why I posted. No doubt he was trying and no doubt his car is most definately faster and almost double the cost. AND, no doubt there are others out there faster. But in day to day commuting, how often are we first in line at a stop light with a car like this next to us, revving it's engine? All I know was it felt good smiling at him as he shook his head in a daze of confusion when it was alll over, and like the hokie pokie, that's what it's all about.

Alright, I can't resist...I ran my buddy in his 06' Z06 against my 03' H/C full exhaust vette with 4.10 gears, on the street. Note, I have been driving my car for 4 fours years, for him only one year. At 138 we are close, but to be honest he was ahead of me before we both let off. Next day, I challenged him again to a race in our daily drivers...he brings his F-250 King Ranch(hell of nice truck btw), I bring the Jeep. Need I say more...:D

a 911 turbo should have no problem hole shotting us, they have awd and are on boost at some ridiculously low rpm like 1800

Sounds like the Z06 guy couldn't drive to be honest.
