so earlier i posted that i have recently been having problems with my engine temperature shooting up and then coming down (i can literally watch it go up and down, up high, way higher then normal) And i have now, i think, figured it out....the fan is not kicking on when it gets hot. Earlier this evening i was sitting in front of my buddy and my temp. was very high but i floored it and he said he saw a puff of black smoke out the exhaust??!!:( Not knowing alot about electric fans my guess is that something is sticking or the somehow the computer is reading something wrong?? Any ideas what could be wrong? Also could the black smoke be caused by the engine running too rich? That was my first geuss that it was running rich due to the computer thinking it was really hot?? I really dont know and would like your help... it also seems to be running like a toilet.

Any and all suggestions would be great.

Black Smoke is not good, it could be a lot of things. Are you positive there was no color to it besides black? Also was it when you first started or possibly when the truck shifted at a high RPM?

It was definatly black smoke and only when i started. I have also been hitting rev limiter in 1st gear lately, when leaving it in drive. im starting to get a little worried, i think it needs to go in for some tests. Another thought of mine is i have been filling up with 94 octane at my local husky but the 94 octane has 12% ethenal in it. Im stopping it use and back to shell and 91 octane......

Any thoughts

wow that would really piss me off. adam how high is your temperature gauge getting? like most of the time mine is past middle of guage(100) then it goes down then back up its just on and off with that guage, but i always thought its normal. its wierd how its hitting rev limiter in first and the smoke i just dont understand. take it to the dealer asap and keep us posted im curious as to what it would be. im in calgary not to far from you and im at 4000 kms just booked my first service for aug 2nd. plus im letting them know about my breaks, rear creeking, loud diff whine, ghost window and it seems like my idle frops too low when i sit in traffic?

Well if the car gets hot consistantly over 235 degrees. Several things might have happened. Doubtful that this has happened but usually anysort of exhaust smoke involves somehthing with your heads or your tune. Gaskets could pinch mainly around the HEADS, you could have a hair line crack in your one of your heads. All these issue would cause a constant burning or smoking and your truck isnt doing it. So I dont believe that is the issue. You Might have fouled plugs. Its most definetly not the gas, that should be a non issue but try swapping it. Have you changed your oil? What does your oil look like?

My guess is the truck is running rich because of a spark plug issue. Either its loose or has gone bad or fouled up which is possible if you are pushing the truck.

Take it to the Stealer!!

My temp usually its just under 100. Im in edmonton as you know, and have never experienced it climbing much higher then 100 except for the last few weeks. Im at 6200 km and due for an oil change on tuesday. They are also going to do some diagnosis on it, hopefully it is just a reset of some sort or a tune. I had my breaks done 2 weeks a go and guess what my back ones dont squeel but my fronts do a little now!! but i can live with that it is not all the time. I am almost positive my fan is not kivking in soon enough. I also once and a while have my idle drop a little low in traffic. Im getting a little tired of the dealerships saying "its anormal thing" come on most of the people i talk to at the dealership no very little or nothing about the GC srt8, is starting to piss me off. :mad: hopefully everything is fixed come tuesday...

I will bring the issue of the plugs up when i go in. The oil looks good and clean but i have not done my first service yet, that comes tuesday, hopefully everything goes well...

I don't think an oil change would solve this problem, unless you haven't changed your oil in 25k miles or something.
