Just had it in for a service and asked if they could check the availablity of four new run flats - we run Pirelli 245/45R20's here in the UK. 'Sorry Sir, none available in the UK at present, try again in a couple of months'

Okay, time to look at some alternatives. What can I put on ? I havn't got a clue when it comes to these numbers on the side of the tyre - DC UK say I could put on 255/45R20 and I know there is a Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 high performance tyre available in that size. The dealer told me that you have to make sure the tyre will not rub - on what ? Is there some limit to the tyre width ?

BTW - had it in for the Pad TSB but they denied all knowledge for European/UK spec'ed cars of it until I pointed out the updated TSB number, they had just stripped the rear pads and added some kid of anti-squeel compound (I could have just turned up the radio). Back in later this week for new pads.

I went with Michelin Dimaris's, but thay are not run flats. They do provide a better ride and I have a tire repair kit for flats, same as in the earlier Corvette Z0-6's available from Discount Tire Direct.com

Mark, you're a brave man - how much does she cost to fill in the UK?

The Goodyear Eagles's are not run flat either, but looking at post on this site they seem to give a better ride (not sure about handling though).

Going to cost me £1000 for 4 of them ($2000) !

On average (with 99RON) about £60 ($120). I usally average about 15/16 mpg.

I looked at the Michelin's but they don't do a size near enough. According to DC/UK I must keep the 45/R20 size the same but I could go either way on the 245 dimension.

I ended up going with GoodYear F1 Supercar 245/45ZR/20's. @US$486 per tire. These are the non-runflat versions of the F1 series tire. The track gives me less grief but I have to say I liked the Pirelli's better. The Pirelli's also look like they held up a whole lot better now. I've babied my Jeep since the weather got hot... only 1 track day. These tires looked like I've been on the track for at least 2 full days :) grrrrrr... Tires are going to be expensive!

Looked at the Goodyear F1's but cannot get them over here in the UK - would have to import them from Tyre Rack.

I talked to some technical guy yesterday and he gave me the line that I would have to be careful about the size and brand I put on - he said the traction control was very sensitive to tyre change and could cause unpredictable results. Not sure how true this is as the system has to cope with tyre wear !

Mark - just seen your pm,

Mine runs fine on 275/45/R20 Generals, ride is a lot less harsh, still handles well, ( as the chap in his TT found out !!) just waiting for my pads to arrive from Zeckhausen.

Thaks for that. The tyre calculator seems to suggest that a 275/40R20 would be the closest match (for speed).

Do you still have RF's on your jeep ?

Have you replaced your tyres yet ? - or the brake pads ?

Still on run flats.
But I am getting concerned now that when I need a new tyre it will mean replacing all 4.
