Newbie here...never owned a Jeep product. Previously owned BMW's but their arrogance in pricing and other factors drove me away.

I just test drove an SRT8 the other day...holy mother of...you don't find that kind of power and fun with German brands at that price.

The real kicker for me was the suspension tuning. I really thought the SRT8 was going to be one-trick pony of 0-to-60 times. Not so. This thing can carve the corners. And the manual shifting was actually fun. I was pleasantly surprised that in manual mode it will bounce off the limiter and not upshift for you.

So, anyway, I am trying to justify this purchase and not get too attached emotionally. Obviously, MPG sucks but I know that going in.

I have three girls (8, 7, and 18 mos.) but the wife is wanting a Jeep Commander so we should covered there with its 3rd row of seats. There is some concern about having two gas guzzlers in one garage.

Worried a bit about reliability but that is what a warranty is for.

Anyway, to get to the point, I was about to order an '08 from Don at Champion and noticed that the Sirius streaming video option is not available in early production models.

I really like the latest technology and can't wait to see the MyGig in action- a hard-drive based Navigation system is light years faster than DVD-based.

Does anyone know when the streaming video will be added to the '08's or if I order now, can I get it added as a dealer installed option?

Thanks- great forum here.

Sirius is looking to roll out the service soon, they've previously stated "shortly after CES 2007"....but back in 2005, they said they would roll it out in 2006....so it's anyones guess.

My problem with the service is not so much in the idea, I think it's great, but rather in the execution. The FCC has only allocated a maximum of 4Mbits/sec downstream for Satellite radio services. They somehow have to fit music, and now streaming video down the same spectrum.

I've read previously that they will be using Microsoft to supply the back-end encoding, and that the hardware units will run embedded Windows Media 9....so it will most likely use MPEG4 compression.

Not entirely bad...but it will probably be victim to constant pixilation and be slow on the tuning side of things.

Thanks Mang...I was also worried about quality. Actually, I was looking into the KVH TracVision A7 as an alternative. This service provides regular DirecTV sat service to your car. You do have to mount a 31" diameter flat, round antenna to your roof cross bars, but it works well.

In fact, does anyone know if you can mount roof cross bars to an SRT8?

The Sirius video option starts production on October 1st. I'm not sure at this time if owners will be able to add the feature later on, seems like it would be possible as I am sure the wiring would be in place.

Dang. Tough call. Wait 3 months or go for it now...
