I never really introduced myself. I just ordered an SRT8. In fact my '08 is going through the final inspection now and should be shipped this week. Anyway, I have a built up TJ and have been into rock crawling for awhile now. I spend every other weekend climbing up waterfalls and bracing myself for flopping on my side or dragging myself or others up with a winch... On the off weekends I'll cut the crap off my Jeep that I mangled up and if necessary weld on a replacement. For example, mangle up a control arm bracket on the trail and either fix it on the trail with my onboard welder, or cut it off and weld on a new bracket when I get home. Break an axle? ...well time to find an old Ford truck cut off some brackets and fab it up to fit the Jeep. My next project is cutting the Jeep in half behind the front seats and tubing it out.

Anyway the drawn out introduction was a result of a few threads I've read. I see threads on adding spoilers, wings, phat wheels, washing techniques, wax products, and rolling 165mph on the freeway.

In contrast my usual forum http://www.azundertakers.com we're usually talking about what sheet metal got in the way on the trail and sacrificed themself in the name of Jeeping and show pics of cutting off the offending piece with the Sawzall before the next trip. I'm used to "removing" accessories, not adding them. :) The less sheetmetal on the rig the less you're going to damage the next time right?

So finally, it is definitely a change. Especially swapping between the two forums throughout the day. Who knows, maybe I'll find a way to throw a Atlas transfer case and front and rear dana 60's into the SRT8? Or is that a party foul to talk about here? :p

Welcome Ming!

Good news for ya...There are some major techies/modders/builders here, so you should fit right in.

Even better news...This will be a good place to expand your knowledge base of vehicular modifications!

This board is an amazing combo of hardcore parts people, and hardcore visualizers!

You could be the first to add some 38x 12.50 swampers and a 9" lift to the beast. I would also say go for some new fat Danas all the way around, mod up a solid front axle and tinker for some lower gear ratios!

Congrats and welcome. Different vehicle, but we're all car guys!

Good to see I'm not the only one making the switch from the TJ (although i'm keeping it in the garauge next to the new srt8). I ordered an 08 with Champion. I'm used to the TJ forums too, but this seems like a good group here. I don't do much rock crawling here in Florida, but I do have a 3 inch lift on the TJ. Some threads cross over well, like the ICE thread. Check out the ICE results on my 2000 wrangler.

Welcome.

So to put things in perspective there is a niche here. The Jeep SRT8 is a powerful rock crawler but it only works on smooth, street like surfaces.

Find me a 1/8 mile, paved 35% grade challenge and I'll smoke you up to the top :D No more rollovers, no more dings and the sound of broken under parts, no rope handlers. But yet them tricks of rock climbing totally apply, like the power from a dig and having good adhesion on all 4.

I hope you enjoy the paved city rocks as much as I have.
