: $549 for ONE tire?
dukie748 07-19-2007, 05:26 PM Jeep is 3 months old, had a blowout today on the interstate. Nursed the car to a Goodyear tire store, no tires in stock, but they'll have one in tomorrow - $549.20 installed. WTF?
Help a guy out here.

Yea Goodyear will rip ya. Tirerack, last I checked was around 300 each.
dukie748 07-19-2007, 05:58 PM How so? I have 2 documents include with the car:
EMT OE Tires Manual and Warranty
which states 'any tire removed from service due to a covered warranty condition or rendered not repairable due to a road hazard injury during the first 2/32 treadwear or 12 months from date of purchase, will be replaced at no charge'
Limited Warranty and Tire Care Maintenance Guide
Under 'What is not Covered' is states 'Road hazards (includes, but not limited to, punctures, cuts, snags, impact breaks etc)
Any ideas - is the tire covered or not?
Regardless, $549 for one tire takes the piss. And that's a Goodyear store!
FastSRT8GC 07-19-2007, 06:15 PM Call goodyear in the morning. They will call the service center and resolve it. I am sure it is within warranty. They are just trying to get you. Make sure they are a EMT service center other wise they WILL F'UP your rim!!!
Also remind them of the recall on these tires.
timster 07-19-2007, 06:24 PM Had a nail in my tire a while back and it was repaired under the GoodYear Tire warranty

Where are you located?
dukie748 07-19-2007, 06:46 PM Fast SRT8,
What recall? Sorry, showing my ignorance.
I was going to call the Jeep dealer to establish what is or is not covered, the docs seem to be (deliberately?) misleading.
At $549 for one, I'd rather replace the lot with Toyos. If it's under warranty, then I'll wait. Anyone get the feeling I'm cheap / skint? Not helped by my house flooding last night...
dukie748 07-19-2007, 06:47 PM John - I'm in Sarasota, Florida.
Mango 07-19-2007, 06:57 PM Replace them with Toyo's, then have a blowout, and then come on here and post how you ruined a $1250 rim and how it's not covered under warrenty because you replaced the EMT tires with Non-emt's.
dukie748 07-19-2007, 07:02 PM Mango, don't particularly want to trash a rim but $549 for a single tire takes the piss.
Putting it in perspective, I can replace all 4 tires on my 911 for considerably less than a grand.
waydennis 07-19-2007, 07:05 PM My recall receipt showed $545 each for the fronts and $585 each for the backs. Must have been $4 tire disposal fee to make the $549.
dukie748 07-19-2007, 07:08 PM Waydennis, why were the tires recalled and does that apply to th 07's?
3 days ago i got a nail in my back drivers side tire (side wall) and i had to replace. Installation and tire....725.00 cdn... !! ouch my dealership quoted me ..810.00. The cheapest i could find was at fountain tire, there a big goodyear dealer in western canada..... it hurts i know.....:(

The EMT document applies to the SRT8, the other warranty pamphlet is for the Laredo, Limited and Overland Grand Cherokee models.
Yes, you are absolutely, positively 100% covered for your tire at any autorized EMT dealer, don't let anyone tell you any different. DO NOT pay a single penny to have your tire repaired or replaced!!
The tire recall was for the 2006 model year only.

Dukie,
I am in Tampa. The recall was due to a seam, I believe. Here, you can find all the info on WKJeeps.com. You missed the deadline but its still ammo in your corner. Even with out it, you should be covered!
I will PM you my #. We will have to hook up sometime at BMP.
Customer Satisfaction Campaign # 2006-28: Goodyear Eagle RSA EMT Tires
Date: 10/25/2006
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is announcing a Customer Satisfaction Campaign for Eagle RSA EMT tires fitted as Original Equipment on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 models.
Tires:
Front Axle: 255/45R20 101W S2 Eagle RSA EMT VSB RPTL p/n 474-565-372
Rear Axle: 285/40R20 104W S2 Eagle RSA EMT VSB RPTL p/n 474-566-372
Potential number of vehicles affected: 3,257
Model year(s): 2006 Grand Cherokee SRT8
VIN range (last 8 digits): 6C100463 through 6C369570 (valid VIN number required)
DOT serial date: Tires manufactured on or before the 24th week of 2006 (ending June 17) are included in this campaign. The 4-digit "week/year" DOT serial date can be found a few inches to the right of the "DOT" impression on the back side of the tire. Tires with dates of 2506 or later (2606, 2706, 2806 etc.) do not have the defect. See photo of the date code below.
Owner notification start date: All involved vehicle owners known to DaimlerChrysler are being notified of the service requirement by mail direct from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
Defect: Tread belt distortion. Tires need to be inspected by an authorized Goodyear EMT dealer (NOT your Jeep dealer) to determine if replacement is necessary. Not all tires have the defect. Tires need to be dismounted and inspected from the inside.
If any of the tires display evidence of distorted tread belts the tires will be replaced and balanced at no cost to the customer. If only one of the tires on an axle needs to be replaced due to the defect but the tires are significantly worn, both tires on the axle (front or rear) will be replaced as a set.
If an inspected tire does not display any tread belt distortion the tires will be remounted and balanced and placed back on the vehicle at no charge to the customer. The re-mounted tire/wheel assembly may be checked for road force on a Hunter 9700 or similar machine if available. Optimizing the assembly for the lowest road force should minimize any possible vibration complaints from the customer.
The replacement program is valid until April 30, 2007. Customers can contact the Goodyear Consumer Relations Department at 800 321-2136 to locate the nearest certified Goodyear Run-Flat tire retail outlet.
barho 07-20-2007, 07:31 AM dukie - listen to Resume.
DO NOT pay a dime for the replacement of these tires. Go to a "certified" Goodyear EMT dealer. They are required, per the 1 year tire warranty, to repair or replace free of charge. Some don't realize this, because this warranty I believe was specifically put in place for the tries manufactured for the GCSRT8.
I had a nail in my tire and told them I wanted it replaced under the full warranty. At first, they laughed and said, no Goodyear tires are warrantied for road hazards, until I pulled out the pamphlet and they called Goodyear directly.
If they give you a hard time, have them call Goodyear in front of you, and speak to them directly yourself.

I had same situation here in Toronto Adam. A long screw in back passenger side between tire side-wall and tread. I paid the dealer $800 but called Goodyear Customer Service in Canada and they reimbursed me the full amount. They had the dealer send them the punctured tire and sent me a cheque when the tire came in. In my ignorance I took the tire to my Chrysler dealer and they just injected some goop. The Goodyear dealer just shook his head saying it was absolutely not the thing to do and Goodyear Canada agreed. So even though the dealer had messed with the tire prior to me going to Goodyear dealer Goodyear Canada still covered me. It was great service.
dukie748 07-20-2007, 08:38 AM Guys, thanks for all your help (especially John and his kind offer of a free tire). I called the Jeep dealer, they know nothing about a Road Hazard Warranty on the truck tires. Called the Goodyear tire dealer, he can't find anything either. Finally got through to the Goodyear national office, and yes, its covered.
You were right. Shame we have to jump through hoops just to get what we are due.
Now off to get a copy of todays paper and photograph my currently perfect rim alongside it before taking the Jeep to the Goodyear dealer.
Thanks again.
FastSRT8GC 07-20-2007, 03:14 PM Told ya! A good corporate phone call works wonders!!
Good luck with the rim and the move

dukie748 07-20-2007, 06:52 PM A happy conclusion, one new tire, no scratched rim (although they claimed if they did damage it they couldn't be held responsible? Yeah, right). All it cost me was $1.07 in state disposal taxes. We have a winner.
Thanks again, this is why these boards are so valuable.
FoleySRT8 07-20-2007, 08:17 PM Hey all
Had the same problem with my wife's Jeep and yup the $549 is very familiar but on sale for $375.00...however...the manager of the Goodyear store was a retired Air Force gentlemen and totally took care of me...
If possible, let them fix the flat...and then buy the road hazard warranty you will pay about $150 for all four tires...then the next time you have a flat, even the tire that was fixed will be replaced for free...
Hopefully this will help you out...
Scott

Try $475+ for a rear Viper tire:eek: Although, when I got a nail in one it was fully covered and replaced for free:D
SCROITORU 03-11-2008, 08:42 AM can one get the tires insured for Road Hazard right of the dealer lot? it seems like a VERY good idea...
