Hi, everybody,

I have my SRT8 for 2 weeks now, but it was garaged, since I was using my Volvo S60R, till today, when my lease expired.
Unfortunately, I had to visit the dealer and schedule an appointment already, right after my first commute, even though the truck has only 250 miles on it. Not a good start...
I did search, but couldn't find anything relevant about problems I'm having.
I have a bad feeling that somebody was "test driving" it like that guy from couple of days ago with black SRT...

1) I noticed that when I move the steering wheel with engine off, I can hear pretty loud click/knock coming from under the car. Sounds like steering rack or end link. Anything I should know before I see the dealer?
2) When slow down to a stop, or almost stop, transmission occasionaly downshifts pretty abruptly. Any TCM updates available for 2007 models?
3) Also when I start moving, I can hear occasional click from drive train? Is it known problem? It was spline gear in Volvo, which had locktite "fix", which never worked beyond one month. Any heads up here?

Couple of loose moldings I fixed myself.

Again, I wish that my first post would be different, but hope that it'll get better.
Otherwise, love the track. Indeed, no replacement for displacement; reminds me of CLK55 I had couple of years ago. I just have to get the frequent customer discount at the local gas station and I'll be ahead of the game :)

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Isaak

1) I'd have the dealer look at.
2) On the '06 this will happen if driving hard occasionally(not sure if '07 is dif).
3) At every startup there is a selftest at 20mph in the transfer case that makes a noise.

2.) I think there is a TSB for that concern
I would advice to go to an authorized chysler/dodge/jeep service and tell them exactly what you experience. It should still be covered under warranty:)

2) '07's WILL sometimes do that with the adaptive learning transmission. I would give it time.
3) Sounds like the self test which is normal. Now what the hell it is testing I'm not sure.

The 06's too. This will happen more if one did a lot of manual downshifting. I did this when breaking in the TCM flash back in Jan and drove it real hard for a couple days immediately following the flash. The trans starting downshifting hard when braking while in D. I like that.

Welcome...I got rid of my Volvo S60R as well for the SRT8. While i miss some of the refinement of the interior...i odn't miss the turbo or the 'crashing" of the 4c suspension.

As said..."no replacement for displacement". I'm having some of the same issues but after two months it's gotten better and is still a rocking car!!

I had a few little annoying issues when I first got mine as well ('06). Wistling from undercariage, howling from windshield, transmission 1-2 hesitation, and loose moldings. But they were all fixed, and never took away from the thrill of driving it.

I still have the S60R, but I like the common theme here. I thought I was the only one with the combo :) The interior is very nice, solid exterior looks, and the sound system knocks hard - impressive all around (except for the turning radius - a total joke!)

I'm running the same theme, just with an older R. ;)

Thank you for your help.
Parkstephen I remember you from swedespeed. So far I love it. Maybe, it's not refined as R was, but it's much more fun (except, mpg).
You're right about transmission, it's much better (smoother) now.
However, that clicking noise from under the car is certainly of a mechenical nature. And it also happens any time when I just start moving, way below 20 mph. Sounds like tranfer case, half shaft, or maybe even drive shaft.

I got my car in Westwood Jeep. NJ and that's where I will service it tomorrow.
Any feedback?

Thank you.

I think I remember you as well...you said you were going to get the SRT8...I'm glad you did.

I still have the CREAKING noise by the rear passenger seat...I MUST FIND IT!!! But that's it so far...everything else has been explained - even the MPG, or lack thereof. heh heh

I liked Swedespeed a lot - but i find the members on this forum much more helpful, lighthearted, supportive all the while being non critical or judgemental. You would never have seen the support for someone doing a S60R variant like Scottinla's Semi-Hemi SRT8...they would have skewered anybody with a non-R looking like an R. That alone sets this forum apart.

Congrats on your ride...it's much more satisfying to me as a daily than the R. Andm y R only got 12 best around town...so it's not that much of a shock. I'm not doing many mods on this car...unlike my R. The ones I am doing will be aimed at the interior. I plan on making it as nice and Euro as possible. I mean...it does have a German tanny an all!
