: Looking To Buy!
Sup guys Im a new member here and Im looking to buy an GC SRT8 when I get home from Iraq. Any advice going in? Ive read all kinds of post about differences between the 06 and 07? and transmission re mapping in regards to slow acceleration:confused: ? Im starting to get nervous Im trying to get a beast and have some fun modding it.
I currently have a lowered 02 escalade murdered out on 22's with a CAI, corsa exhaust, sway bars and baer brakes and thought of throwing a whipple SC on her but I test drove an SRT and Im seriosly thinking about a trade in! Ive got close to 50k on my caddy and I loved the jeeps power and style... Im stuck. Should I just upgrade the caddy with the whipple(500HP!) and upgrade the head unit so I have the Navigation OR BUY an SRT?
Are they worth it? and What would my best choices be as far as year and everything? THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!!
luvr 6.1 07-13-2007, 06:03 PM First let me say Thank You for serving and protecting our freedoms we enjoy so much here in the USA. That is a tough call, I love my jeep SRT8 but to have a Escalade with a Whipple supercharger on it would be really sweet also. There is a guy here in the Pittsburgh area that has a Chevy Tahaoe (same size as a Escalade I think) and he put in an LS7 motor and the truck to say the least...HAULS ASS! He runs 13.5-13.6 all the time. The thing is wicked for how huge it is. You do have a tough call. One thing about the jeep is that your getting more performance for less $$$ and it is under waranty. Good luck with your decision. Be safe.
navyavi469 07-13-2007, 06:12 PM You're wasting your money on the whipple, the Jeep will Stomp an Escalade supercharger or not. If youre a hip-hop star then I suppose the E is a must, but go watch Clarkson or Top Gear if you want to know how it stacks up agains the rest of the pack.
The Jeep represents much more than just a "$50,000 millionaire" plastic Bling-mobile Escalade. It incorporates the legndary Jeep AWD performance and solid JGC platform into a true SRT street competitor. The wheels, brakes, engine, transmission, body kit, and transfer case are all purpose built to work synergistically and PERFORM as advertised.
Some people like to take the 300C route and put more "show" into them than "go".. which is unique because not many newer vehicles allow that kind of flexibility. Others like myself prefer the High Performance Mods and aggresive racing look. While still there are others that want the ultimate sleeper/grocery getter. You can go lots of directions with the JGC is all I'm trying to say. An escalade with a whipple is just a big fat slow has-been, that is slightly less slow in the quarter mile.
I raced an 07 Avalanche on the highway the other day with "mods" (headerback exhuast, CAI, full tune, cam). I left him like he was standing still, by the time he got to 120 I was five buslenghts ahead of him... and my vehicle is relatively stock.
I was in Umm Quasar and Basrah, welcome home.

Ben, it seems like you already put some good money into your ride, are you willing to trade in your caddy for the srt8? if you are trading it in I think it would be a wise decision and I would bet that you would love it:) I love mine to death!
Thanks guys I appreciate the advice, what would be the right way to go as far as what year and If I buy used what pitfalls should I watch for?
Ive been thinking about ordering an 08! I read a few threads on it and it sounds sick. I wonder about the MDS though? I like the modern Navi package and the HID's. I am willing to trade my caddy in so Ill have to hit up a few dealers when I get home.
Marshallout 07-14-2007, 05:21 AM Ben,
The SRT is it!!!!!!!!!
Go buy one and jump in for the big win!!!!!
caddy 07-14-2007, 07:16 AM No one has seemed to answer his real question about things to look/watch out for and particularly the advantages of one year over another. I am looking right now also and look forward to reading responses from you guys that are SRT8 owners.
kramsay1234 07-14-2007, 07:53 AM Thats sort of because it is a tough one to answer. There have been so many posts on the 06 vs 07 discussions, but I think the long and short is they are both fine. There have been no major issues with either and if you talk to owners that have either year they are happy. Part of the reason that 06's are still holding their own value wise.
If you like remote start on the key, monochrome painted lower bumpers, and a few other minor things, go with 07. If you want the darker interior, HID factory with projectors, and a few more little goodies that the 08 offers, then hold out for it if you can as they are supposed to be in production stage now. There is nothing so drastic that you should stay away from any year though. Go with what fits the budget and enjoy.

PM Championjeep. He sells all srt8's for $500 under invoice and will ship to your location. What to look for....... Check the rotors. Check under the front faring to see how scraped up it is.Look around the transmission for oil. There has beem a problem w/ o-rings I've had no problems with mine yet. 1yr 3600 miles.
DRIHEAT 07-14-2007, 08:59 AM Ben, Thanks for your service. Stay safe.
I have 5K and one year on my '06. The little vent louvers to the left of the steering wheel on the dash were a little loose. I had those replaced under warranty. That's it. Mine is bone stock except for RM360's billet shorty antenna. I have "killed" 2 supercharged RangeRovers (one, my neighbor's; MANY times), 1 Cayenne TURBO, 1 Cayenne TURBO S, (the non-S seemed slightly faster... but "dead" just the same) and countless other heavy metal. This is my 39th vehicle, which have included all manner of high-performance rigs... the Jeep GC SRT8 is the MOST FUN, AND THE CONSISTANTLY QUICKEST vehicle I have owned. Hell, I smiling just thinking about driving it.:D :D :D :D :D
Man Im glad Ive become a part of this forum! Thanks guys!! cmn1 Im goin to hit up championjeep and I appreciate the aweomse advice! Marshallout.....yeah daddy were going to race hahah.

That's what we are here for. Good Luck
navyavi469 07-14-2007, 04:01 PM Ben I bought used becuase when the SRTs first came out the dealers were asking well over sticker. These trucks are holding their value well becusae of the limited production and their "niche" ability.
The remote-start and Backup Camera were the only two options I would have liked to have on my JGC. Both can be retrofitted however, and once I figured out I'll never tow a damn thing with this beast the backup camera seemed like a stupid idea anyways.
I could care less about projector headlamps, and Xenon HID lights are an easy mod now.
I saved around 7 or 8 grand (the initial depreciation hit) and have a truck with zero issues, very happy. The 08s will have some minor improvements but nothing that anyone not intimately familiar with these trucks would even notice. I'm not a fan of the MDS, more moving parts and tuning issues as far as I'm concerned... if i was worried about gas mileage this is the LAST vehicle I'd own.... enough said.
best of luck with your decision.
Yeah Is that for sure the MDS on the 08's..Im not a fan of that myself:(
