I took my car in several times for squeaky brakes. There is even a shimmy in the steering wheel I had brought to the dealers attention several times and paid for balancing but it never went away. After one year of driving normally on the street I was told they are warped and need to be machined down and new pads which would cost me $899.00 !!!!! Am I getting ripped off? I drove a lot of highway miles 21,000.

What are they quoting you for, just new front pads and turned rotors? If so, that's outrageous. Dealer cost on the front factory pads is under $250, and a set of brand new rotors runs $155 dealer.

BTW, your dealer has the ability to have your brakes fixed under warranty, if they want to. Technically, the warranty is 12/12 but many owners have had brakes covered under warranty far beyond that, myself included. If you brought your vehicle to the dealer for brake issues before the 12/12 expired, then there should be no question about warranty coverage. Beyond that, it's up to the dealer.

I called my dealer earlier this week per the rear pad squeal TSB. While I am under 12k miles, I am at 18+ months of ownership. They ordered the new pads for me and will gladly install them under warranty, it wasn't even an issue. They did this for me on a previous Grand Cherokee I owned, new pads and rotors at 25k miles and after a couple years of ownership.
