China has taken the step of suspending imports of current model Jeep Wranglers as a result of a series of fires.
The country's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) took the step after an investigation which discovered that problems with the vehicle's automatic transmisison, could result in it catching fire.
The administration also contacted Chrysler, asking the automaker to find the root cause of the issue and fix it, stating "manufacturers and importers should take precautionary measures for the vehicles involved to ensure consumers' safety."
And yet, in the US no Wranglers have been issued with this recall. No doubt some will also be giggling at the very notion that China takes 'consumer safety,' so seriously, especially after numerous reports of defective automotive parts and other consumer products originating in that country.
