: headroom

This is my first post so let me give you the quick run down. My wife is tired of her Navigator and wanted to check out some new vehicles a few months back. We were looking at the Aspen and the Cherokees. The SRT8 was in the showroom and she asked about it. I of course was excited that she was interested. Ever since then that's the vehicle she wants.

We test drove one and I was disappointed with the headroom. I'm 6'3" but I guess I have a taller torso than most as my head was literally brushing up against the headliner. This is the reason we didn't buy it.

Anyway, a guy at work just picked up a Charger SRT8. This has got me on the bandwagon again...which leads me to my question.

Does anyone know if the SRT8 without a moon roof might have more headroom than with a moon roof? I'm thinking perhaps the headliner is thicker to accomodate the sliding glass? This makes sense, at least in my head, but I was wondering what others thought?

I am only 5'10 and personally dont have a head room problem. I would imagine no moonroof would only net an inch or so of extra head room.

I'm 6'8" you just gotta get the "pimp lean" going. In all seriousness I don't have an issue with head room its close but so is every other car. It would be a lot better with out the sun roof but oh well.

I'm 6'1" and I hate sitting in the passenger seat since the height is non-adjustable. My father thinks there may be some adjustment in the mount on the seat frame, so we'll see.

6'6" here, I def. Have to put the Lean on the seat for added head room. But with other cars(not sure of this one) You ussualy saw a inch or so going with out a moonroof, due to the fact the moonroof take up a little extra room. To bad I havent seen another GCSRT8 with out the moonroof.

I'm in Arizona. Yeah, it would be nice to find someone with one that doesn't have the moon roof. Afterall, I've only opened my current moon roof 2 or 3 times in the 3 years I've had it....so if it buys me some headroom it's worth it.

I sat in a standard Grand Cherokee without a moon roof and it had a lot more headroom. I didn't think this was a fair test though as this was a stripped model with the base seats. Since the seats are completely different they could have just had less padding which may have made it feel like it had more room.

That's a little to far for a test fit. I went out and measured with the seat in its lowest position and from where the seat meets the back of the seat _/ to the headlliner was 38 inches.

Getting rid of the sunroof my cause you other problems.

I think the sunroof is required in order to get the SRT-1 package. So, in order to not have a sunroof I think you've got to give up all the other toys too.

Maybe you could slouch?

6' 3", golden as long as the height of the seat is all the way down

If I were that tall torso wise, I would be looking into seat options for any vehicle and not relying on "factory options" that way it would open my options of vehicles I could choose from.

You can always replace things in the way of comfort such as rear view mirrors, seats, steering wheels, etc. I'm sure there's a lot of owners out there that have a good list of vendors to support them in their efforts.

There's a lot of seat makers out there such as Ricaro that may help.

Best of luck!

The Power Sunroof is a separate option and not included in the SRT-1, Nav or rear entertainment packages. $800 on the window sticker. - Bob

I'm 6'5 and have no probelms. Is the seat all the way up so that you would be driving like an old lady? You have to recline it abit, have some room to move about..... Sit back and say this is my GC SRT-8, who's next???

Seems like with as much variability you should be able to find a good angel that is comfortable. Being the runt of my family at 6' I don't have any problems - I hope you figure it out, these trucks are well worth it!

I'm 6'6 and have no issues at all, like DABEARS I recline the seat back a little, but even when it is more straight up I have no issues.

I am 6'4" and was very worried about the head room when I first sat in the Jeep SRT-8 at the dealer. Once I bought it, I just reclined the seat a little and have never had an issue. You actually forget that your head is so close once you experience the performance and handling on a daily basis. The model without the headliner has more headroom but it also puts my line if vision too high with respect to traffic lights and that sunvisor being in the way.

Yes, it's a separate option. But I believe it's a required option in order to get the SRT-1 package. Once you check SRT-1 on the Jeep website it automatically adds the sunroof. The brochure also says the SRT-1 package requires the sunroof. So yeah, you're paying an extra $800, but I don't think you can buy the SRT-1 without also buying the sunroof.

That is correct!
