With the debut of the all new Dodge Charger SRT8 at the Chicago Auto Show this week, rumors are already starting to swirl about the next high-powered model to come from the Chrysler group. And the reports point to a new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.

No solid details are available, but it's certain to get the new 6.4-liter V8 from the Charger with a solid 465-hp and 465 lb-ft of torque delivering a mid 4.0 second 0-60 mph time. Along with some more aggressive bodywork and a custom interior, also look for a lowered suspension (possibly an adaptive setup), as well as some big wheels, tires and massive brakes.

With the new Durango R/T model having just been unveiled and priced at $35,000 expect the SRT8-Jeep to easily clear the $40,000 mark.

What happened to the extra 5hp??? I want my 5hp back!!

The hp ratings on these cars are almost laughable. Why say there is a difference with each model. The engine dyno has showed that the base motor is capable of putting out up to 517hp in stock form.

Jerod

Actually... 530hp. That information and video was hidden quite fast by the SRT people though.

Its a little sad that with the Camara ZL1 (550hp), Mustang GT500 (540hp), CTS-V (556hp),X5m (550hp), Cayenne Turbo (500 hp) and even Hyundai is stepping up their HP game with the Hyundai Genesis R spec (429hp). This brand new redesign should have been targeting 550HP, so it would stand up to some time before even lesser cars have more HP than an SRT8.
Can you believe a 4 door Hyundai has more HP than the WK SRT8? Uhg!

Jerod

But the only thing you listed there in the same category is the Cayenne Turbo, and it is at least twice the amount of money the SRT8 is. There is some hidden HP in that motor. Judging by dyno numbers these motors are putting out anywhere from 495-515hp. The original chassis dyno of that motor was around 530...can't remember the exact but it was just a bit over.

The point is SRT is releasing the engine across the line like last time. The entire line is comparable to one or more of those listed above.
And even in 2010 when I bought my GCSRT8, we had the faster vehicle out of all of those listed above. It didnt matter what category it was. If it lined up next to us...We were faster. Now with the brand new release of this engine in the line up, it's already behind those listed above.
Don't get me wrong. I love the new GC...and I anticipate me owning the new version in 2014 as a 2015 model. Just like last time, 3 years in, they addressed some main issues. With the 8 speed coming out in 2013, waiting 2 more years I feel will be the smartest choice as it gives them the couple years to address any of those gremlins that show up.
Hopefully, they come out with a special Supercharged edition to bring the crank power up to 575 to compete with the cars that will be out there. As I've been told 1000 times before though, they say a factory S/C won't be an option and never will be.

Lol you guys are so spoiled with these jeeps...wanting the jeeps to be on top every time. Man I will just be happy to have a top notch truck priced much lower than the competion. Just to have one would be a honor. I understand you want a power upgrade from the last model but other things matter. I'm more excited to see the evolution of this beast!

Have you read anything that Resumespeed has posted? He has insider information and knows more than your dealer. You keep on believing what you want but you will find out you and your dealer are wrong.

Read this thread. The info is from Resumespeed taken from another forum.

The Durango will never get the 6.4.

I'm willing to bet a Durango SRT8 comes out so long as gas prices don't hit $4-5/gallon. It makes sense.

It's a Sema Grand Cherokee. I forget what they called it but it isn't a SRT.

Surely we've come to expect more than a cheap looking add on front spoiler from the SRT design team.

Yeah, I knew it wasn't the SRT8 or sort of, just was pointing looks kinda like SRT8 for the front valance which looks about the 06-10 SRT8 :) It most likely is a Overland modded.

Anyways, looks very very nice!

you guys would be correct thats a 2011 overland done for Sema...called the Jeep Grand Cherokee Street

Jerod
04-02-2011, 12:12 PM
Well, you have the street version..., just add the 6.4L motor (Racing Tech) and there you have it SRT. It wouldn't surprise me if that was close to the SRT vehicle we will see.

The new Jeep SRT will be unveiled in a little over 2 weeks, no way would they bring it out for a year and then "replace it" with a Durango version. The Durango is too heavy for an SRT version, there are no plans in the works to bring it out.

Bruno, have you reserved one at your local dealer? Time to trade-in the "CSRT8" and step up!

Lol, I wish I had the CSRT8 to begin with! As you have known for 2 years, I'm still patiently waiting to see the debut of the 2012 300c SRT8 6.4, first. I was told by a few of the 'suits' at Spring Fest that I really need to see this version before making any decision. I really don't like how Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep play their wait and anticipate games with new vehicles. Now, RS, where is my executive pricing??

Hmm, you never know, maybe a "double-debut" in Chicago?

Exactly!! Those who "secretly" saw it while in Detroit in January were simply amazed.

Who the heck wears sweaters?? I'm talking T-shirts!

I am pretty certain that they will debut both in NY. I you can order both in September, I don't see another show in between this time to reveal them at?

What? You go first, my friend! Since you know what the unveiled JGC looks like, then I want you to put that one on your list. I still need to see the 300c SRT8 6.4! Yes, I'm gutless and flaky. Then again, I really like the 6.4 Charger we got to see at Spring Fest!! Such a dilemma....

The 300 and jeep will look a lot better than the charger. I think it is simple....awd vs rwd, lol. Release this new info you know bruno! Quit holding out on the forum! We already know what the srt 300 will look like....see my thread on LX.
