: HOW do you do an AWD donut? This is my first attempt on DRY pavement...
silverbullet 02-05-2011, 11:51 PM As the title says, how the heck do you do a donut and keep the back end spinning around the front? I know it's going to be harder with and AWD vehicle because the front actually will grip and try and move the car.
See my first attempt below....
YouTube - SRT8 Donut ATTEMPT.....
Guess the best I can ever do is a SNAIL shaped donut??? Do I just keep the front wheels turned locked to one side and keep the gas pedal mashed?? I just want to do this once and record a video clip for memories sake! The sound this thing makes is soooo bad @ss I need to have a clip.
A.V.GCSRT8 02-06-2011, 12:05 AM I don't think you can, I've seen many try but to no prevail. just pull the TC motor out and it should swing around nicely
silverbullet 02-06-2011, 12:11 AM LOL that's too bad :(. This was done with TC on....
Jack_Toepfer 02-06-2011, 12:21 AM TC has to be off...
I've done great donuts in other AWD vehicles by inducing the drift with the e-brake and cranking the wheel with a little bit of entry speed, it will let you carry some momentum into the donut and really get the ass end swinging around nice. Then keep the throttle planted and wheel cranked. Once all of the tires are up in smoke you can start modulating the throttle so that it doesn't shift and work your way around in some nice circles.
I've tried it in the damn snow with the TC on and it doesn't even work there. I have no disabled the TC on my Jeep yet, but my experience in many other vehicles like this one lead me to believe that they can be epic.
YouTube some AWD donut vids and you'll see that once the front tires are spinning... it doesn't matter if it is AWD or not.
stanfna 02-06-2011, 07:37 AM here is a good example....

Newfiebullet 02-06-2011, 09:04 AM A locked rear diff helps. You need to disable the stabilatrac, even though the traction control is off it will still cut the engine back when the jeep starts going sideways.

Vinnysrt8 02-06-2011, 12:46 PM pull the abs fuse then u could do it i did a miny one in a parking lot couple of month ago
silverbullet 02-06-2011, 01:38 PM OK, so to summarize I need to a) TC off b) pull ABS fuse c) turn wheel to one side and floor it!
This sounds correct???

This sounds correct???
you forgot:
d) order new tires
SrtJake 02-06-2011, 04:09 PM I definitely wanna try it,but I am afraid of breaking something. That TB did it as well as I could ever expect. Me likey.

Lol you and me both...
Funny how both videos start off with squealing brakes!! :silly:
silverbullet 02-06-2011, 04:39 PM LOL I know... the classic squealing brakes to make sure everyone knows its a real SRT8.
As for breaking something.... I wonder what will go? I mean tires I expect to lose some 'material' but then who cares, its the crappyears anyway.
I think IF one does this only once or twice to get a good video clip, it should not be too bad on your drivetrain.
Doing it in the wet should be easier on the components BUT wont be as cool as you dont get the smoking tires LOL
Transmission may be something that could break but with my set-up I'm told I would be needing one sometime in the future.
JohnsonSRT8 02-06-2011, 04:48 PM I've done it a few times while the vortech was on but didn't get any vids...pull abs fuse and put it in autostick 1, floor it but once the tires get spinning let off a bit otherwise it shifts into 2nd and bogs down and game over. The first donut is the hardest but once the tires get warm they are like butter. Oh it also helps to brake boost so when u let off the brake the tires spin sooner, versus just punching it and waiting for it to get into boost/powerband...
Jack_Toepfer 02-06-2011, 08:43 PM As long as the tires are spinning, it really isn't too bad on anything except the tires and the gas gauge... If something suddenly stops or you hit something, that could be bad.
silverbullet 02-06-2011, 11:28 PM I guess the point is, if you are going to stop its cuz you released the gas. IF you stopped cuz you hit a pothole or something else as Jack states, then that could be expensive.
