: European GC SRT-8
72RIV 06-28-2006, 01:43 AM Hello,
I'm just back from the dealer where I ordered my black SRT-8(expected for the end of july).
They "gifted" me with the "just in" new srt-8 brochure with all the tech specs:
the bad new is that for the italian market it's sold only with the same tyre front and rear and the size(don't ask me why) is a sad P245/45R20 (same u.s. rims). The problem is that in Italy we are not allowed to change the tyre size , we have to keep the ones that are written in a document that comes with the car.(roughly translated " circulation paper").No inferno red color avalaible, substituted by steel blue .
The jeep is sold with series nav. system(not optional) and the final price is EURO 67.000!!!!!
I noted a strange thing in that brochure: they mention that the transmission is the same as the 5.7 hemi and not the W5A580 as u.s. model (and diesel version over here), but maybe it's a typing error.

Red SRT-8 06-28-2006, 05:18 AM I wonder why they have all of those changes, especially the tire size? At least you'll still have the 6.1L engine. Anyway, congratulations!
Rob Dance 06-28-2006, 05:51 AM I collect my UK spec SRT8 at the weekend... apparently its the first in the country.
Dealer tells me it has no spare tyre ( just a can of inflation gas !) and sat nav, and it looks Awesome... have to wait and see .
I will post some pictures and specifications when i get her .
jms935 06-28-2006, 01:15 PM none of these have spare tires.
radduc 06-29-2006, 01:13 PM 67,000.00 Euro's:eek:  That is INSAINE!!! I will personally deliver mine to you for 50,000.00 Euro and I have $4,500.00 worth of mods done to it.
72RIV 06-30-2006, 01:27 AM RADDUC:
I know it's totally insane but consider these things:
if I imported it from u.s. I would had had to pay 33% more(Italian v.a.t. =20%+ 8%= import duties + 5% other taxes) plus shipping which is about 2.500 euros. Plus , the car is not covered by the official chrysler warranty because not bought via official dealer.
Another very important factor is the registration of the vehicle to the national vehicle register(part of the transportation ministry).
To do that we need a technical specification paper released only for officially imported vehicle(in this case Chrysler Italy)and obviously they release it only to their official dealers.
All vehicles that don't follow this path are considered "atypical vehicles " and do need a special procedure to be registered.
This procedure is very very long and You can't be 100% sure to reach your goal.
There are always modifications to do to the car in order to circulate in the European community.I.e the direction lights have to be amber color and only amber(we call them"orange arrows"), the car have to have a direction light on the side , near the front door , there has to be a vin code stamped in the chassis too,the car must respect at least euro 3 emission normative and others countless bureaucratic issues. It's easier to register a hystoric vehicle(at least 30 year old)!!!!
Last but not least , not every Insurance company will insure that kind of vehicle.

BahnBlastR 06-30-2006, 02:20 AM Well this SUCKS! Actually, I knew it would happen sooner or later -- I was just hoping it would be later!! -- It was nice having the only SRT8 GC in Europe! It will still be nice to NEVER see another one cruising around. The coolest thing about driving this Jeep in Germany is that no one -- including most Americans -- has a clue what it is, or WHAT IT CAPABLE OF!! They absolutely freak as I haul ass by them at 150 MPH. Or when some dipstick in his rice grinding whatever thinks that his little coffee can exhaust makes his little civic a race care. SEE YA!!
Have fun with your rigs in Italy and the UK! We'll see you around the block!
radduc 06-30-2006, 07:01 AM That's CRAZY!!!! We have to go through something like that bringing a Euro car into the USA but it is much eaiser.

Did you import your jeep or buy it overseas?
I'm always curious to hear about american muscle tearing up europen ;)
72RIV 06-30-2006, 09:47 AM I know it's crazy but it's true!!!
I already have experienced this path when I imported from U.S. my beloved 1972 black buick riviera: it took one year in order to collect all the necessary papers and authorizations in order to obtain the license plate and the national vehicle register permissions!!!The big problem is that when the officers of the provincial vehicle register examined the car :they had absolutely no ideas of what they were talking about.Everyone had it's opinion
and they act like they were the supreme judges and decide whatever they like .....If it has been a bad day for this guys , be sure that You'll have big troubles for your car.
for BahnBlastR:
Have You ever come over here for your summer vacations?
Ravenna (my city) is in north-eastern Italy and is just 7 Km from the adriatic sea(120 KM south of Venice),
and It's a traditional summer vacation place for Germans!
Giovanni
BahnBlastR 06-30-2006, 03:37 PM Danman, I purchased the car through American channels and shipped it over. Since I work for "Uncle Sugar" I have US plates, etc., so its not really "imported" here. The local Jeep dealer has been outstanding service wise. Our warranty issues have been nill. This thing is a HOOT over here. The Germans appreciate good driving skills and as long as you are following the rules and driving under control you can have a LOT of fun here. I live about an hour from the Nurburgring, but there have been some pretty bad crashes (and deaths) there in the last few weeks. I will venture over there later this summer for some fun, but not too much! A group of us are supposed to venture over there on the Harleys next week with Billy Lane, who is over for a meet and greet. Should be fun.
72RIV - I have been to your beautiful country before, but not in the Jeep. Hell, it'd probably cost me $300.00 in gas just to get down there from here!! :) Maybe it is time for a road trip! I don't like venturing too far from home in this rig because it is an attention magnet that I like to leave in the garage at night -- if you get my drift. If we are going for the weekend we usually take the Benz because it blends in. The Jeep is not something you park on the street here.

Rob,
Lucky you man. I have to wait until the August batch arrive. I had the fortune of seeing one though way before anyone in the country had one because it belonged to Nick O'Connell who is the PR guy for Chrysler. He had the first one in the UK back in April or so. I happened to bump into him in a local car park - and I was astonished to see it there with UK plates. When I quizzed him, he told me who he was and offered his card so I could get access to the latest info as and when it became available. They are not sure at this point if they want to hand it over to the Top Gear because Clarkeson really shitted on the standard GC, comparing it to an Argo Cat. Either way, I would love to see the stig launch it around their test track - even better if it were wet!
I get mine first week in August - can not wait.
Was told that only 50 would be brought into the country this year (that was from the horses mouth) but have also heard 200 being banded around. Even so, it's good to get an exclusive limited edition supercar for £40K.

quadrilogy 07-15-2006, 08:01 PM BTW, the UK advert on Jeep.co.uk states a 0-60 time as under 6 seconds, and a top speed of 152mph. Go figure. Any idea why this would be on an identical car?

Hi,
Go here : http://media.chrysler.co.uk/jeep/models/pressPacks/grandCherokeesrt8/maintext.htm
This is the Jeep media site where all the info is available for download - press and motor journalists. Anyway, click on the above link and you will see this...
"The 6.1-litre HEMI’s power is channelled through an A580 five-speed automatic transmission with specially calibrated AutoStick® driver-selectable range control, which offers fully automatic operation or sequential manual gear selection. A heavy-duty four-flange prop shaft sends the torque from the transmission to an upgraded differential and rear axle."
The EMEA model does have an A580 box. The tyres front and back are the same for easy of import and to keep the costs down. Also, the EMEA SRT8s are created in the US not Europe (I have been told by Jeep). The internal specs for the SRT8 are almost identical to the Overland in terms of trim - minus the wood.
