I recently asked my dealer the same question cause i wanted to know straight from the horses mouth. He told me basically anything you do to your vehicle (mechanically) other then stock could void your warrenty. He said it all depends on how big of a ass your dealer or rep. wants to be. Technically a CAI can void warrenty is exactly what he told me same with exhaust. Im still doing both tho, as long as you dont have some jerk off dealer you will be fine.

If something did go wrong and you were worried the best thing to do would be to keep your stock CAI and put it back on before going to the dealership. pain in the ass i know

If the part you put on causes a failure and can be proved that it did then ya, they can. If it can be proved the other way around then they cant void it.

Just to get the absolute facts straight... A warranty can NEVER be voided..period. They can, however "restrict" that part of the vehicle and deny coverage if the aftermarket part is believed to be the cause of failure of the factory part.

Lots of people let themselves be bullied around by the Dealer Service Departments. These guys can really be asses sometimes (appologies for the nice ones on here) and for some reason, people think that the all-knowing service desk-jockies have the right to "void" warranties, which in reality, is a legal contract between yourself and the MANUFACTURER (Not Joe Schmoe Service Rep at 'Rip-em-Off' 5 STAR Chrysler/Jeep). I've been told plenty of times that my warranty isn't any good due to a mod that I install and here's what I do.

Walk straight up to their desk, look them in the eye, and say:

"Excuse me? That information is not correct, and its also considered a malicious-business practice, and potentially fraud, to falsely inform a warranty-holder that his contact is void, and then charge said liable party for services. Such action is reportable to the manufacturer, your general manager, and the local authorities."

Usually by now they stop pretending they know what they're talking about and start listening.

" The full warrenty in and of itself cannot be voided except by writ of a judge or legal ruling in a court of law, in which you must prove that I am in breach of contract. You have the right to refuse service at any time, however, you then open yourself to liability (I can sue you) for punitive damages. In order for you to refuse any service on this vehicle while under the terms of the warranty.... 1) Something must physically go wrong with the vehicle, no broken ****, then absolutely nothing wrong with warranty. 2) If something DOES happen to break, then it must be a direct result of something that I did to the vehicle to make it fail ...i.e. you can't deny fixing the power window motor becuase I put on a supercharger."

Hope this helps, but it is a last resort, you'll always get more flies with honey though. I usually try and butter up the service dept by saying what a great customer I am, and how many vehicles I have bought, and how much I love this place, and how many of my friends I reccomend to come here.. blah blah blah... they'll usually fix anything.

Do you think this will have the same effect if I'm reading this off a piece of paper?:D :D

I'm definitely saving this statement.

I am still new to the way Chrysler handles situations. But I know with GM, as long as the exhaust is cat-back, there aren't any issues. CAI... I don't know.

Excellent post by navyavi469. I, too, am going to memorize that. :D

Also, here's a alink to the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. It may be helpful.

Yes you can.

Quoting the Magnuson-Moss Act is like telling someone whose robbing you that what they're doing is illegal...

The original intent of it was to allow other than OEM manufacturers to make STOCK (key word) replacement parts for vehicles. Kind of an anti-trust move so they can't void your warranty for doing oil changes @ Jiffy Lube instead of the dealer.

Trying to add in high performance aftermarket parts and quote or rely on the MMA isn't going to do any good. Unless the function of said part is designed to be an exact replacement, you're technically, legally, and otherwise out of luck.

Sure a high flow intake or free flow exhaust sounds good, in theory, but the end result is your increasing the output (to what degree or how much is the subject of much debate) of your motor to other than OEM specifications, which in turn increases the wear and tear and stress on your motor and related components, so short story long, if they want to void your warranty, they will. Quoting navyavi469's rant will more likely than not result in getting laughed at in the face, and if the Jeep/DCX intranet is anything like FoMoCo, you'll get a VIN history entry documenting such which will follow you if you decide to go dealer shopping. The use of the word voiding is generic and restrict is more appropriate, but kicking and screaming and trying to sound like an internet lawyer isn't going to help, finding a reasonably mod-friendly dealership will, just don't ask them to committ "warranty fraud".

Speaking of LX/DCX, guys on the LX forums have been hearing from their dealers that MOPAR this and that (CAI, etc.) can and will void/restrict their warranty. Bottom line is if you want to play, you have to pay, and you can't expect the dealer to clean up the mess if thing's don't go well...

Devil's advocate position? Not really, I've played extremely hard and paid likewise and didn't expect anyone other than me to pay for it, and neither should anyone else.

The aftermarket is starting to really key in on warranty concerns too. I recently received a Superchips survey that asked is I would consider purchasing a warranty policy in case something happened to my drivetrain while using a Superchips tune. When I was looking at getting a supercharger installed in my Chevy Avalanche there was a 3/36K warranty that went with it. Who knows how things would work out if anything went sideways in either case here, but that's a little more peace of mind rather than begging for forgiveness instead of asking for permission and rolling the dice.

Boy do I know...

FWIW,

Matty

I have leased my last 4 jeeps, the dealer that I buy from is about 20 miles away, but has always leased me a few hundred over invoice, I see him once every 3 years. The local dealers sales dept.are a bunch of fools, they will not talk about invoice price and on the srt they started at 3 grand over. The service dept. is good and I have never had a problem, they just shake there heads when I tell them there are idiots in sales, so far they have lost 4 jeeps to me, then they look at there computer and see it for themselves. I don't think it really matters to them as they have to make money to support their dept.
