: My AAC headlight nightmare continues....

So I go to install my headlights that came after 4 weeks of waiting. Well they don't work.

Seems the inverters were wired up BACKWARDS. So while I was troubleshooting the problem, they must were damaged. The lights must now go BACK to AAC. :(

Mike seems like a genuine guy, and I'm being as optimistic as possible. I'm just hoping he comes through in the end...I just want what I paid for.

I'm not trying to make a huge fuss over this, or badmouth the company. I'm just shocked at how long and stressful this entire transaction has become!

Here are some pictures of their work....take from it what you will....  :(

Random wire totally visible from the outside....this is on the drivers side headlight

Hard to see, but same wire poking out on passenger side headlight...

The demon eye inverters are wired to the small side marker light, apparently they were wired backwards...does anyone know if the green wire is power?

Guys...can anyone help me wire up a 12v switch for these things? Last night at like 11:00 I suddenly had a vision. It was as if the Mod Goddess herself came down from the heavens and bestowed upon me an idea. Ok....so I really owe it to my girlfriend (who is very intelligent) for coming up with this idea....but you get the point.

We guess that the way they wired the demon eye rings into the small parking lamp wire is not supplying enough voltage. This is a sensative system, and even if a bulb goes out it's enough to disrupt the overall voltage.

I'm going to wire in a direct switch, right from 12v power from the battery. Coming out of each light is a red and a black wire. How would I wire in a switch? I'm guessing like this:

power wire tied in to each light---->to battery----to switch
ground wire from each light--->to negative side of switch? --->switch grounded to frame?

I'm a little confused how to do this.

When I installed demon eyes on mine, I tapped into the power and ground of the headlight bulb itself since it uses the biggest gauge wire. The demon eyes draw very little power to run so it will not cause any voltage fluctuation in the lights. I guarantee the lights will work if they are hooked up properly.

So that would mean, they'd be on when my main headlights are on...

I want them on when parking lights are on ideally. Maybe I"ll tap into the larger parking light/turn signal bulb.

Keep tryin Mango. You have had no luck with all headlight projects so far so why should it be any different now...

My buddy has lights just like that on his overland with the "angel eyes" around the bulb area. We popped his hood open to see how his were "professionally" installed here in Chicago from a shop. He has the same affect you are are looking for, where the "angel eyes" are on, when the parking lights are on. From what we could tell on the wiring, it was a direct wire in to the factory parking light wires. Now, his "angel eyes" have an LED around them, which consumes much less power than a regular bulb. So, I guess what I am trying to get to is, what type of "bulb" or is it an "LED" that is installed? It should simply be able to work directly wired in with the existing factory parking light wiring unless it needs a much larger power source.

Ok...you win AAC...I've given up for the time being. I went to Pepboys today, spent $50 on parts to wire it up every which way I can figure and nothing. The inverters are blown inside the lights from initially being wired up BACKWARDS.

I'm so stressed out over this...it's taken it's toll on my enthusiasm. Modding shouldn't be this stressful. I'll mail them back (they are kind enough to pay for shipping this time) and let them figure it out. Later on, when I'm up to it, I'll install them.

Thanks for nothing AAC.

Wow thats bad news. Like agray34 was saying, I have the same headlights as his buddy but I replaced my LED angel eyes with CCFL ones from a BMW. They have igniters just like you describe and they fire-up just like HID headlights. Im sure yours uses the same thing and hooking them up wrong will cause the igniters to fail. Mine are little black boxes that have the wires going in and coming out. Is this similar to yours?

Blown-WJ. Allright, I wasnt aware you replaced the "Angel Eyes" with a H.I.D setup with igniters and all. Depending on the drain, it may need a relay?? Just never know with these HID setups and that factory wiring. Or, the thing is just broke?

boooooo. . . this sucks Mango, I was really looking forward to those lights, but after seeing the BS that you are dealing with and the questionable quality of the work, I think it'll be quite some time before I break down and send AAC anything, thanks for being a pioneer, sorry you're taking it in the A** on this one. . .

JT you know I shoot everyone straight, if I payed that for headlights and they came back looking like that with the sealant etc and had to do rewiring after the cash you just dished out, lets just say it would look like 1 of my westbury dealership threads, those cumbags.

Good luck.

Mango,

That sucks and blows. Goats.

Unfortunately not surprising, there's more than one unhappy customer on the LX forums too.

Hope you get squared away, good luck...
