: Average Grand Cherokee SRT8 MPG's poll
pantheman75 01-12-2011, 08:02 AM I'm just curious:
I know that there are many variables that play into miles per gallon averages, but for all you current / former Grand Cherokee SRT8 owners out there, what would you say is YOUR average miles per gallon with the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8?
I see 14.5-15mpg on average.
pantheman75 01-12-2011, 08:22 AM You Sir are obsessed with fuel efficiency. lol
I'm not gonna disagree with you :o
I really don't have a problem with my fuel bill going up with a shiny new Grand Cherokee SRT8, but there's something to be said if it's an INSANE increase. I'm driving a 2008 Pontiac Torrent GXP with AWD and get around 18 MPG (on regular gas) as it is; it's a nice balance between modest power and being a daily commuter car / hauler that can tow 3500 lbs. IF I get a Grand Cherokee SRT8, I'll have it for 6-8 years and need to make the mental decision that I'm okay with increasing pump prices and frequent fill ups before I buy it. It's a personal decision for each of us.
pantheman75 01-12-2011, 08:43 AM Got to pay to play bro.
Well put
Marylandm3 01-12-2011, 08:45 AM Yeah whenever i'm in the city i get like 10 When i'm on the highway i see like 15. Not cheap but IMO definitely worth it.
trailblazer ssss 01-12-2011, 09:04 AM i see about 15 on the highway an in the city iam to scared to even look...i just know i average 170-190 miles to a tank.
trailblazer ssss 01-12-2011, 09:07 AM I see 14.5-15mpg on average.
thats cause you drive like my grandmaw...
Newfiebullet 01-12-2011, 10:22 AM Your right foot will make the decision on how hard your jeep is on gas, my wife can get 16-17 mpgs on the highway im lucky if i get 13, she can get 12mpg in town im lucky if i get 8mpgs.
If gas consumpsition is something you worried about then a SRT8 jeep is NOT the right direction
Newfie.
thats cause you drive like my grandmaw...
haha..... this is true for 85% of the time. :D:D:D I dont rambo out my cars :fight::silly:
Just get a commuter car if you're that worried about gas mileage. The money I saved in gas more than covered the payment on my VW 4x over. I put money IN my pocket getting another car...lol....however I drive a lot of miles for work.
Not to mention the Jeep requires a lot of expensive maintenance, the VW...change oil, put in gas....so I'm foregoing a lot of that as well by having another car.
TampaSRT8 01-12-2011, 10:51 AM Running around in the suburbs I get 11.5 - 12.5 MPG. When I hit the highway I get around 14-15.
When you think about it it is really not any worse than if you drive a V8 pickup truck. A bunch of my friends drive Ford and Chevy 4WD pickups and get the same mileage.
pantheman75 01-12-2011, 10:57 AM I need to clarify; I'm not terribly worried about MPG's for my sake. Like I said, I'm totally on board with paying more at the pump for one of these beasts, but I'm not willing to drain my bank account over it. I'm more concerned about being able to sell / trade it in 6-8 years. Like it or not, no matter how great Grand Cherokee SRT8's are, automobiles with VERY low MPG's are more difficult to sell (just like cars with manual transmissions; most of the world doesn't want them). I have a STRONG feeling that this is only going to get worse over the next several years. You're totally blind if can't see what's over the horizon (gas prices going through the roof, possible shortages, etc). We're at the very end of these gas guzzling beasts (which is one of the reasons why I DO want to get one).
As far as the suggestions for getting another car; I've already got one... a Solstice GXP convertible (19 city / 26 highway) for summertime fun ;) If I didn't have the roadster, I wouldn't consider getting another car. What's the point of owning a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 if it sits in the garage and is afraid of the pump?
I've crunched the numbers for me if I switch from my Torrent GXP to a Grand Cherokee SRT8 (assuming that the MPG's don't change on the new model); $20 more per week if gas prices stay the same (which I know they won't) and $30 more per week if gas prices go up to $5.00 a gallon. If I'm driving my dream car, I think that I'm okay with that.
scrapiron7 01-12-2011, 10:58 AM My average is 12.2.
If I was worried about fuel economy, I wouldn't have got this SRT8.
bcm0018 01-12-2011, 11:50 AM I'm rockin 11.2 according to the gauge display. Never bothered calculating the actual but I would think they would be close.
lqdchkn 01-12-2011, 01:08 PM the 2012's will have MDS so expect them to be better on the hwy mileage.
BOYCHIKS 01-12-2011, 01:44 PM I see about 12-13 combined with highway/city/track... I don't reset it too often, unless I take a trip over 150 miles or so
hawkman996 01-12-2011, 01:53 PM I average right about 14-14.5mpg mixed city/highway driving. If I'm only doing highway it goes into the 16 mph range.
JEEPYOU 01-12-2011, 02:06 PM 95% of my weekly driving is on the horrible streets of Los Angeles. That and a heavy foot give me about 10 MPG (which would be lower if I ever got above 45 mph).
That said, when on the freeway at speed I average 15 MPG (and that is at 80 mph with no traffic).
~14. OK who gets 17MPG avg? You must have the Tornado! lol
When you think about it it is really not any worse than if you drive a V8 pickup truck. A bunch of my friends drive Ford and Chevy 4WD pickups and get the same mileage.
Very true.
Knuckles 01-12-2011, 02:13 PM 9.9 MPG in the city and 15 to 17 MPG on the highway...
hops23 01-12-2011, 06:38 PM 11-12 city, the best I got on the highway was 17.
Motorboy1 01-12-2011, 08:44 PM for some reason I get like 13.4 in the city and 13.8 highway, was traveling 80mph though. I'm being easy on her right now its winter time. I think fuel economy will take a big hit once it warms up!
OntarioSRT8 01-12-2011, 09:13 PM In the 2 months and 6 fill-ups, that I have had the SRT8, I have averaged 12 MPG. Don't really care, I'm just enjoying the ride. Actually, I'm kinda glad that a lot of people are concerned about their fuel mileage and are buying more fuel efficient cars...that leaves more fuel for us!
Joe C 01-13-2011, 01:02 AM I like the almost perfect bell curve we have right now. I average about 10.
MYYassin221 01-13-2011, 01:25 AM I reset mine everytime I wanna feel better, either that or I get to see 10.8 mpg on the display (for city that is)
pantheman75 01-13-2011, 04:43 AM Wow; almost a perfect bell curve still...
flats3 01-13-2011, 09:23 AM 10 mpg around town and my best highway was 17.8 mpg. On long trips that I take annually, the SRT added 2 hours to my best time because of all the stops for gas. And remember that you're putting premium in the beast.
2quic4u 01-13-2011, 02:08 PM i average about 9.X around town, and i dont really drive on the highway.
DCSpecial 01-13-2011, 02:15 PM Year round I average around 14mpg. Lower in the winter, higher in the summer. But I don't live in "town" so it is a lot of cruising for me and very little stop and go. I can be pretty hard on the skinny pedal but all the 40-70mph cruising makes up for it.
My highway mpg(11.0) is actually lower than my normal mpg(12.0) but that's due to when I'm on the highway I'm usually towing a boat.
black_srt_8 01-14-2011, 12:05 AM Most of my driving is on highway so i get 14.5 -15 mpg and it is my daily drive
Full tank cost me aronud $37 here in dubai
But once you drive it ,it worth every penny Spent on fuel
urntfstenuf 01-14-2011, 01:50 AM it says I average 12mpg, but that number will get lower now that I can hear my exhaust. :D I guess adding the CAI & Tune will make it even Lower. :fight:
chance575 01-14-2011, 02:27 AM ~14. OK who gets 17MPG avg? You must have the Tornado! lol
Very true.
Haven't you seen the hyper ground thread, 3-4 mpg increase.........I also have some ocean front property to sell ya
pantheman75 01-14-2011, 08:00 AM Interesting read that touches on the 2011 Challenger SRT8 with 6.4L's fuel economy: http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/16/2011-dodge-challenger-srt8-392-and-se-v6-first-drive-review/
"As with the V6, the EPA has yet to turn out its fuel economy numbers for the 6.4, but Dodge fully expects to see the engine deliver at least one mpg better both city and highway than the old V8 thanks to tricks like a dual-plane intake and cylinder deactivation in automatic-equipped vehicles. "
I wonder if the fuel economy improvements will carry over to the 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 (even with the additional weight)?
IMO a 6.4L(w/MDS VVT etc.) & the 8spd combo should improve the avg MPG some, but combine that w/added weight & it maybe a tiny gain.
Haven't you seen the hyper ground thread, 3-4 mpg increase.........I also have some ocean front property to sell ya
How much? Would a 4 leaf clover do? :D
TXBLU 01-15-2011, 06:44 PM I normally get around 11.5 with mixed hyw/city driving. When I pull my 3500 pound box trailer, it goes down to around 9.5.
Eric
CanuckGCSRT8 01-16-2011, 01:40 PM Only had mine for a month and a half and my average is 12.3 MPG mostly city. Haven't done a road trip yet to see what I get on the highway.
10.x Smiles per Gallon :)
pantheman75 01-18-2011, 08:44 AM I'm a little surprised that just over 2/3 of the people polled get 12 MPG or better on average.
BillSRT8 01-18-2011, 09:37 AM 12-13 basically always unless a roadtrip
CanuckGCSRT8 01-18-2011, 04:26 PM Did a short 200 mile road trip today: 15.7 MPUSG @ 70 MPH. Calculated not EVIC
pantheman75 01-31-2011, 08:54 AM I was just looking at the MPG ratings of the new 2011 Challenger SRT8 with the 6.4L engine with more horsepower and I noticed that they are unchanged from the 2010 Challenger SRT8 with the 6.1L engine with less horsepower. Perhaps the new Grand Cherokee SRT8 will also have the same MPG ratings even with the additional power...
Terminal Tim 01-31-2011, 09:16 AM I get around 14 - 15miles per gallon but the last time i put petrol in the beast was October. I run on LPG with Nitrous Occasionally for that extra smile factor. LPG in UK runs at $0.75 pt litre
nighthawk306 02-01-2011, 06:45 AM lowest ive EVER had was 9.5 right after i got the truck. normally if i drive conservatively-spirited i get 9.9 to 11.5...
darn all you getting 12-13 city. maybe the summer will change things up a bit.
pantheman75 02-01-2011, 07:31 AM I said it once and I'll say it again; talk about a perfect bell curve on the poll! VERY interesting!
GC GEEZER 02-01-2011, 10:06 AM These are my facts:
Bought my 06 new in late 06.
Logged all gas purchased from day one and tracked miles driven per tank.
Current mileage 33k miles, 70% highwy/toll road, 30% rural town. Almost no urban city, no racing (well maybe a little road rage on occasion)
Average MPG was about 15.5 until I added exhaust and CAI @20k then increased to about 16.5 MPG.
Installed Vortech at 32k which seems to be costing me about 1 mpg so far.
Okay, I drive like a Geezer.. I enjoy the power and use it when needed but don't abuse it. Original tires lasted 32k miles and original brakes still have 50% wear and have never squeeled.
I've owned lots of performance cars over the years but this Jeep is one of my favorites. I'm waiting for the new 2012 as a possible replacement or may trade for a CST-V wagon later this year. It's all in how you drive em and maintain em folks.
See my mpg in my sig. It's only based on two fill-ups, but it's pretty accurate from what I've seen thus far. My driving is pretty much all city and suburban.
BoulderBenny 02-06-2011, 09:18 AM 15.0 on the dot with a heavier amount of my driving coming in the city. Wouldnt say I drive it like a total **** but I do enjoy it from time to time...

Actual or EVIC? Only time I've got over 15 was on a 200 mile highway trip.
See my sig for my average over 10 fills...Low 10.6 high 15.6.
Cool website to track MPG. Thanks SMG
urntfstenuf 02-06-2011, 11:20 PM since adding the 4in CAI, I went from 12 to 13mpg. even though it never cruise's lower than 85mph on freeway. :D I'll see if it gets Better or Worse next week after I install the Eibach's & Predator.

that's actual. wonder if being a mile high makes a difference?
riverfallsdr 02-08-2011, 08:05 PM Noticed you have a borla s. I have been considering one but have heard complaints about noise especially drone at cruise speeds. I realize and hope it will sound aggressive and I have a Lexus for traveling so the Jeep will be mostly around town. What is your opinion?
