Hi guys I'm new as of today, but i own a 06 srt8 jeep.

Currently it's sick.. The Ecu in it is bad and needs replaced so the local shop says (not the dealer) and I am going to replace the ecu I found a good one local well 1hour from me in a junk yard I'm going to pick up. However I'm sure I'll have to get it programed to work in my jeep. It's just my jeep only has 32k miles on it and this new Ecu I'm getting is out of one with 80k.. I do not want my jeep saying it has 80k when it Doesnt. Can this be fixed? And if I don't have the original Ecu anymore as it's a cash and trade part. How can they verify the milage? I took pics of it as it still shows milage but everything else is a mess and it doesn't run. Not sure what happened to it. But the shop pulled the Ecu and it is fried you can see and smell it. Not sure why or how but I'm nervous.. Any advice??

And to double verify I want to retain the orginsl miles not roll them back for you people who are stuck on thinking everything is illegal.. I don't want that at all cause my vehicle already is low miles.

the dealer can fix it all up for you with starscan. if you have them do all the work /

you arent the first person to get a new computer whether the miles are up or down.

one thing I DOUBT the dealer will install a USED computer.

Is there any way I can have this done elsewhere? Maybe a mail in where I provide all perameters needed? Just don't want to spend 1000+ on a Ecu then extra to program.

But the Ecu does control the miles correct? And it's not stored in the odometer.

The miles are stored in various computers in the jeep. That being said, the dealer should be able to get a used computer to work in your jeep. Good luck!

its stored in the computer and the cluster and a few other places. they al need to agree or be overwritten by someone with a starscan. very rare someone not the dealer has a starscan ..... so NO.

It is rare but there are some people that have starscans and know how to use them. Look over on the LX Forums....

The cluster Odometer will stay the same. That's what shows on the little screen.
The PCm does have it's own Odometer but that ain't a big deal a simple StMo change will fix that.
The PCM odometer can stay whatever it wants to be, it won't effect the driveability or operation of the vehicle at all.

You WILL need to get the PCM VIN changed however...
or the Jeep won't run.

I doubt that a dealer can change the VIN, thats a hack.

I can do it and a few others, B&G charges 130 bucks way too overpriced.
