I just had my 1st oil change at 3400 miles. I own (2) other vehicles that require synthetic oil (Mercedes CLK55 and Corvette). I spoke with the service advisor at the Jeep store and he states 3000 mi between changes. I am more inclined to go 5000 mi. Please "chime" in with comments.

All depends on how you drive, me every 2800-3000 I change my oil and filter.

I have 7 vehicles, and I use Mobil 1 or Royal Purple in all but one. My Corvettes, SSR and E55 AMG get a yearly change only, and each are driven less than 1,000 miles per year. My Ford Lightning gets changed twice per year, and is driven 3,000 miles per year.
I would just go with the required oil changes in the manual or what the computer says. Synthetic does not gum up like the old reqular oil.
If I changed all vehicles at 3,000 miles or every 3 months I would be broke!

Yeah, but most of us drive more than 1,000 or 3,000 miles per year

I now change my own oil and will be doing so every 4,500-5,000 while checking and adding if necessary along the way. Mobil 1 exclusively.

I'm going to change mine every 3000.
I'm at 5500 miles now and I'm looking forward to trying the Mobil1 15 50.
Do you have to document oil changes for warranty to be valid?

Every 5-6K.
If you read the forums about motor oil, I've been convinced that synthetics can easily last 10-15K with just a filter change and oil top-offs when low. The big "if" is that you need to do UOA (used oil analysis-like Sarge has posted with the Mobil 1 15W-50) to make sure the oil is holding up in your specific vehicle under your driving conditions. The two points they seem to make clear are:
-Change your oil too frequently, and wear "may" increase (based on UOA). As I understand it, the metals "bleed" into the oil when changed, and then level off (when they reach equilibrium is what it looks like on the graphs presented). The more metal in the oil multiplied by the number of oil changes represents the total wear in your engine. That appears to be the basis of their argument. Don't know if it is the truth or not
-Synthetics should easily take 5-6K oil changes, given that these motor oil guys clearly push it to twice that much with no long term consequences.
Am I an expert, HELL NO, but go read for yourself and make up your own mind (think about it, BMW/MB and others have 15K/1 year oil changes)
Each to there own on this, but I'd say every 5-6K, and forget the used oil analysis.
