Has anyone used it? A new one opened up by work and was wondering if any members have gassed up at a Costco. Haven't got a chance to drive in it to check prices but I have a membership and the one by my house doesn't have a gas station. I'm assuming they carry all three grades. So I'd like to hear about anybody's experience.

Only real way to tell is if you try a tank and then data long it bro. I know a few guys that have tried some in the East coast and were getting lots if ST knock and LT knock.

That's what I was wondering. Might not be worth the savings if results aren't good. Thanks Jose.

Anytime bro! I only use Mobil 93 in my beast... Did you ever get them coilovers installed yet?

It's great and cheaper!

I buy Costco gas since we go there about once a week. It's about 9 cents cheaper a gallon and I get 0.4MPG more on Costco then Chevron. I went through $400 of straight Chevron (gift cards). When I went back to Costco gas my MPG average went back up. I track each tank with Acar on my Droid.

ST and LT knock is more the issue, rather than mpg . Log a tank of Costco fuel, and then log a tank of name brand fuel. You may be surprised at what you see in the logs.

Kind of out of the way, but the Shell at Irving and York has gas at the same price as Costco right now. I was there tonight.

Not like this matters, but Cosco and Sam's generally do not carry mid-grade.

If you don't see a name brand on the pumps or gas island, I'm betting it's just cheap gas. I was using grocery store gas from day one and thought it ran ok. It was certainly cheaper, for a reason. Then I started to send logs to Johan. He told me not to run cheap gas anymore. In fact he's got a thread here about the evils of the stuff. Since he's doing your tuning, I'd ask him about it first. Your call of course...

FWIW .......

My cousin and his wife has worked for Chevron over 25 years... he travels the world and performs financial audits on suppliers and contractors. He's been in countries you'd never want to visit.

I asked him this very question when Chevron was posting record profits a couple years ago.

He said: "Gas is all the same. The difference between top tier vs. low grade are the additives (detergents) that keep your fuel system clean."

If you Google the question... "Costco gas quality" you'll probably find the same answer.

http://gasbuddy.com/

Moreover.... brands can be an emotional thing. I buy top tier gas (Chevron or Mobil) for all my vehicles. I used to be a Mobil fanatic, and then switched to Chevron due to the additive Techron - I have a 1991 Jeep with 173K miles that has the same injectors... a quick review of my smog certs for the past 15 years, you'll find it runs cleaner than a Honda. If you do decide to run low grade junk, I would tune your motor for the junk and stock up on Chevron Techron and run it through your system per the directions. Good luck.

Exactly. I found an article a while back that said the same thing. It all goes into the same storage tanks, and when the trucks show up they add whatever brand's secret sauce to make it that kind of gas. So if there's no brand at the pump, it's the generic mix. On a beater I doubt it matters. But in our hi-comp hi-perf engines I'll so as Johan said and use only good stuff.

I have used union76,chevron and mobil 91 and have ran the same on all three. I only use mobil now but if im on the freeway and i need gas the only stations that are right off the freeway are 76 and chevron and its like they have dibbs on the land right off the freeways lol. We have 4 offramps in our town from the freeway and theres only 1 mobil and the other are either 76 or chevron. Now driving to the track its the same way as i have my NAV on it shows where the stations are and the ones right off the offramps are chevron n 76.

Yes its about 9 miles away and they sell TRICK AND VP 100 depending on the deal they get.
I called them and they told me they had vp 100 so i went there to get a sample in a jar and the guy came out and aked me what i was doing and i said checking the color of the 100 octane as you said it was vp and according to this sample its not vp because vp 100 is orange and this is clear. So thats when he told me we get the best deal at the time. I have tried both trick n vp 100 in my 95 octane mix of 5 gal with 5 gal mobil 91 and they were about the same. Trick 100 is 6.50 gal and vp 100 is 8.00 gal and both carry 1.8% oxy.

Look what I found ...

So, why blend to 95? ... also, have you checked the Sunoco racing unleaded? This is what the Union 76 around me carries.

I have mixed 93,95,96,98,101 octanes just to see what 1 would be the best and overall the 98 was the fastest and 101 was the slowest. I have priced every thing sunoco has and there all between 42 and 52 buxs for 5 gal as that why they told me it be cheaper to mix it using sunoco 260gt+ with 91 to get 98 octane and there 100 IN THE 5 GAL CAN is off road gas in CA WITH ITS 3.3% OXY. There 100 at the pump is 1.8% oxy in CA. This yr ill be using 93 octane and 98 at special events to compete with the eastern guys times as any pump gas we use in ca will only have 1.8% oxy and there at 3.5% oxy. I have 2 P/B to better this yr of 93 and 98 octanes and i wont be doing any wt reductions either lol.

In Canada Costco only carries 91octane gas and it is usually quite a bit cheaper than the rest. When I travel in Michigan I go to the Costco for gas and they offer 93 octane and it works out to be even cheaper(alot) than what I pay here in Canada for the 91octane at our Costco. You guys in the US have it good. I just paid $1.35 a liter for 93 octane here in Canada and it cost me almost $100 bucks to fill er up.

Come live in California and see how good we have it... if it wasn't for the Pacific Ocean, Sierra Mountains, Death Valley, rivers, lakes and our great weather; you may was well consider us another Russia or Cuba.

The best it gets around here is 91 octane.. and will shoot up to $5/GAL in a heartbeat.

Yeah , I realized that about Cali.
I'm not good at the conversion from l to gals, but at $1.35 per liter I believe 3.78l per gal ... so I am paying $5.10 a gal already.

What gets me mad is that we ship a lot of our oil from Alberta to the U.S. and then you guys send us the refined oil(gasoline) back for sale in Canada it costs us more than what they pay in Michigan.
Anyways, I can go over to (Detroit) Michigan and get gas I believe, the last time was $2.85 per gal.
I go over to Michigan to shop a lot lately because of the exchange rate being close to par. And fill up every chance I get.

I hear ya, what I can't figure out is why California's gas is the most expensive in the US ... the volume is higher, docks are right here... not sure where our gas is refined. We probably make up for the remote, low populated areas.

I think the bean counters have it all calculated .. the oil companies will get the revenue per capita regardless of the supply or demand. How else can they forecast the revenue and EPS to Wall Street, and issue dividends to investors? The more vehicles become fuel efficient, the less they will consume over time... the increase in population will simply drive demand and growth sideways for the oil producers.

The fixed costs remain an issue and will increase year over year...

That's why $5 or $10 per GAL isn't out of the question... it's just a matter of time.

:(

I have a Costco nearby and they are usually 10 cents cheaper. I was worried about what gas they use and BS'd with their delivery guy one day when I passed by. He said that they do always purchase the same gas. Their trucks go to the local refinery and select. He said that he gets Marathon or Shell 99% of the time to deliver to Costco.

I also use there gas almost every fill up. The real debate should be about ethanol. I don't feel the Ethanol gas stays fresh as long as none ethanol, I also feel me cars run better on none ethanol gas. The ethanol gas turns green in about 10 days. I just rebuilt a carb in my Samurai,I also use Costco for that and the carb had a green tint, 2 years ago when I had it apart it wasn't green.
