: Jeep faster than Porshe Cayenne Turbo ok...but..
westsidestrangla 06-14-2007, 12:06 PM ...are they even in the same category??
The Cayenne turbo and the ML AMG are both full time 4 x 4 vehicles and are both very fast vehicles. Not to hate but why is Chrysler comparing the 2 when they arent even in the same class.
The Jeep is a fast roadster and nothing more. Porshe has the 911 turbo. I think that would be a more fair comparison. Can the Jeep go offroading? My point exactly.
Im buying the GC SRT no matter what...but its silly that they are comparing the two. Cayenne turbo can do both....go fast and go offroading. Its a more versatile vehicle. Hence the difference in price. Dont even get me started with the cheap plastic interior.
I actually agree 100%. These rides are both great vehicles, but in completely separate classes to me.
GRNENVY 06-14-2007, 12:58 PM I agree 100% the jeep is better. :)
I can afford the Porsche but I buy American.
barho 06-14-2007, 01:00 PM Well, the Jeep is full time 4 wheel drive as well, but I know what you are getting at and agree. However, most with the ML63 and the Cayanne won't be doing any off-roading either. And the GC in the snow......worked beutifully for me, and that's all I need the 4X4 for anyway.
HoustonSRT-8 06-14-2007, 01:06 PM They are all in the same category of "sport SUV".
scottina06 06-14-2007, 01:09 PM both of those are double the price+..........its not a fair comparison
Eh2BRUTEh 06-14-2007, 01:09 PM I drive my jeep year round and it was great this winter on stock tires. Would I take it off road - no. Do I want to - no. I would guess not many Porsche's ever go off road either. Another issue for me is that the Porsche Cayenne and all its derivations are just so common. I see them everyday and everywhere in Toronto. It's an event when I see another GCSRT8. The GCSRT8 is a four wheel drive muscle car I can drive year round - I agree you just can't compare it to anything else! A new category is required - Muscleute.
ResumeSpeed 06-14-2007, 01:29 PM ... Dont even get me started with the cheap plastic interior.
If the Porsche was $40k it would have a lot more plastic too. As far as the interior goes, the Cayenne may use better quality materials, but in my opinion that's where it ends. Unlike the Jeep, the controls in the Cayenne are poorly laid out, confusing, and far from intuitive. The buttons on and around the radio are a confusing mess, as are the ones on the steering wheel. The large white Porsche logo that takes up half of the center gage pod sticks out like a sore thumb and ruins the look of the cluster. The dark color interior looks good, but the brown/tan colors are just awful. I have also heard a lot of complaints about front seat comfort. No thanks, I'll take the SRT8 interior any day. And don't even get me started on the Cayenne's exterior "styling", if that's what you call it.
barho 06-14-2007, 01:37 PM And don't even get me started on the Cayenne's exterior "styling", if that's what you call it.
True dat!!!
What came first....the VW Tourig, or the Cayanne?? LOL!
Those other vehicles you mentioned -- the Benz truck and the Porsche Cayenne -- those are gay ass euro trucks for doctors and tennis pros and the such.
Now the Jeep, its for BAD ASSES. We drink whiskey, have tattoos, and we date strippers. You try pulling up to the Cheetah club to pick up Miss Misty driving a ML 63... Someone will beat you up.
Now, you pull up in the Jeep.... It's looking tough, you're looking tough..BOOM!... they whisk you up to the Champagne Room. That's why we own these Jeeps and not the eurotrash crapwagons.

I couldn't have said it better.:)
IMO, if you were to change the front bumper/facia & the tires(not actually necessary) the Jeep would go offroad, but would be then somewhat restricted w/o low range.

Damn dude...You're my new hero :D
Do you have an extra cape so I can be your sidekick?
ha ha man that was good..... The cayanne has to be one of the ugliest suvs on the market today
Prjct86Man 06-14-2007, 05:11 PM well said cdog.

Ditto. It's a Pacer on crack.
The ML and Cayenne are absolutely useless offroad off the showroom floor unless you buy different tires. Entering that dimension, there's nothing stopping an SRT8 owning from trading his front fascia with an Overland owners and also buying some offroad tires. Wouldn't be quite as good as the air suspended and 4 lo ML and Cayenne but it would go most places.
Eitherway the argument is moot. No one takes these vehicles offroad and if they do they need different rubber, in turn sacrificing their handling, braking, and even acceleration.

Too Funny!
U da Man
blown65 06-14-2007, 06:14 PM My parents had the Cayenne but its just not as fun to drive as the Jeep IMO.
Their SL55 on the other had is a blast. (Same torquey off the line feel of the Jeep)
07blksrt8 06-14-2007, 07:43 PM I think the point about the Cayenne having better off roading capabilities is actually it's achillees heal. Ditto for the ML63. Who in their right mind would take a $90K or $110K (plus) vehicle off road? I know I wouldn't. That is also why they weigh about 800lb/1000 lb more than our trucks which is a big reason why we are about as quick/quicker (than Porshe).
Ironically, testing the Cayenne is what got me to buy the Jeep....which I posted on back in February.
Agree they are not in the same class, but the net is that the Jeep is just as much fun, actually more as one doesn't have to part with nearly as much dough to get it, and I for one could have bought any of the three.
OurZoo 06-14-2007, 07:55 PM Now the Jeep, its for BAD ASSES. We drink whiskey, have tattoos, and we date strippers
I almost spit out my Pina Colada my wife just handed to me!!! :D :D :D
Who the "f" is going to take their Cayenne offroading?????????

Face it, the Cayenne, the way people rip on it in this site, is a much more successful production from an automobile manufacturer than the GC SRT8. That's because the car is capable of anything.
You spend a little more and you can get the Gemballa GT Cayenne with 750 hp. Can Chrysler do that for the Jeep? Yes? Then why is it not available in the market? Porshe is just laying back and laughing at Chrysler the way they are making a name for their Jeeps by claiming that its faster than Cayenne Turbo. They are not in the same category.:p
If this was a war between Porshe and Chrysler for fastest SUV(key word utility) then Porshe would win hands down. Jeep built a fast car but not an SUV vehicle.
With that said, I like it that way. Imagine if everyone drove a Jeep SRT.

I doubt you would say anything when one of these pulls up in the Cheetah Club. All the puppies are going to go hush hush.........
The Porshe Gemballa GT 750 hp.

Sorry to steal your thunder:D
westsidestrangla 06-15-2007, 12:26 AM Obviously the difference in price is from actual offroading capability, while also being fast, and also having a high quality interior.
I personally hate the interior of the Jeep and love the interior of the Cayenne especially with the bage interior leather. You people are nuts if you think Cayenne's interior is not nice. Maybe confusing like someone mentioned but its nice nonetheless.:)

I agree completely! I drove from SF to LA this past weekend and didn't see a single GCSRT8. I saw about 30 Porsches Cheyennes though and I'm sure they saw each other. I would want my money back.
I'm really happy with my Jeep, I get looks and compliments everywhere I go. I like the way it drives, I like the way it goes and looks. I could give two sh!ts about how much someone else payed for their supposed "superior yet twice as costly vehicle".
At which point I find a single passenger who says "I wish I was in a Porsche" I will let you know. Until then...:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I live in the gulf, many people go offroading next to the beach sands. Its really fun....I wont be able to do that with my jeep.:(
But alot of people do here. They are rich and they dont care. My point is that the Cayenne is CAPABLE when it is demanded of them.
ResumeSpeed 06-15-2007, 12:42 AM ...many people go offroading next to the beach sands. Its really fun....I wont be able to do that with my jeep.:(
Why not? I've had my SRT8 all over the coastal beaches here, never got stuck once.
westsidestrangla 06-15-2007, 01:28 AM Why not? I've had my SRT8 all over the coastal beaches here, never got stuck once.
That's good to know:) You see I dont own one yet...but I put my name down for an 08.:)
Can you take it for camping? Isnt it too low to take it to these areas ie. rough beach sands?
larryc7777 06-15-2007, 02:14 AM I look at it this way....there are many ways to compare 2 vehicles. You can compare them by price. You can compare them by performance. You can compare them by ergonomics. You can compare them by off road ability. You can compare them by fun factor. You can compare them by, for want of a better word, presence.
In my case... price, performance, & fun factor controlled my decision to purchase the GC. As stated above, the JGC just looks bada$$. I have friends that own Cayennes and their vehicles just don't have the look that appeals to me. And it isn't only me, hardly a day goes by that I don't get talked to in a parking lot or stoplight by someone who wants to know about the Jeep. Also, I continually have those people who you see approaching quickly in the rear view mirror but never pass. They are sitting in the adjacent lane, just behind my bumper, looking at the JGC. When they finally do pass by, I usually get a thumbs up.
mricorp 06-15-2007, 05:47 AM Since I own a few Porsches I will admit that I am not a Cayenne fan either but you have to admit they are not in the same class. Kinda like saying my 1990 5.0 Mustang was in the same class as a 911 because it was faster in a straight line. While I love both cars immensly they are not even close when you consider every aspect of the vehicle.
The other thing I don't get is this "exclusivity" thing. I see a lot more Jeep GC's than I do Cayennes. The SRT8 is the top of the line specialty vehicle. If you want to truly compare you should only count how many Cayenne Turbo S's you see, not the entire model range.
and that's why we see more of these on the road than the SRT..
Face it, the Cayenne, the way people rip on it in this site, is a much more successful production from an automobile manufacturer than the GC SRT8. That's because the car is capable of anything.
Or its because Jeep intentionally capped SRT8 production at 1500 per year... Compare Grand Cherokees to all Cayennes and see which sells better. ;)
You spend a little more and you can get the Gemballa GT Cayenne with 750 hp. :
A little more dough? hahahaha! You can buy a dare I say hennessy srt600 and smoke the Gemballa GT all day or do the smart thing and go with an ASM supercharger and still smoke the Gemballa all day every day for a third or less of the price of the Gemballa Cayenne. The Gemballa in case you haven't noticed is also so low to the ground it looks like a slammed minivan. There goes the capability the cayenne has over us.
D-man 06-15-2007, 08:38 PM Ditto. It's a Pacer on crack.
NOW I know what the Cayenne looks like!! I have been trying to put Fishbowl and stretched 911 in the same visual and I wasn't coming up with anything......
A modern AMC PACER...... That's what it looks like!
MNBob 06-15-2007, 08:56 PM I agree with Cdog except I do not have any tattoos. I do not want a soccer mom's vehicle!
I drove my all winter in Minnesota and it was the best vehicle I have ever had for those conditions. In fact, it is the best vehicle I have ever had period!
What's the price upgrade for the Gemballa? I believe it's huge. 3k SRT8's per yr I believe, compare that to almost 8k per yr GT500's.
