It was a near certainty and now Chrysler has confirmed it: the SRT8s are coming. Sources inside the automaker have said the new SRT8s are currently in the works, meaning we should seem them soon.

No specifics have been given on what models will get the SRT8 treatment, but considering Chrysler's past we can all but guarantee an SRT8 Dodge Charger, as well as a Jeep SRT8. While Chrysler is eager to position the new 2011 300 model as more of a luxury car than a performance car, it's likely to get the big V8 too. Another possibility includes the new Durango SUV.

Like the already released 2011 Challenger SRT8 392, all models should get close to 470-hp and 470 ft-lbs of torque using a new 6.4-liter V8 engine. Also look for larger wheels, lower and stiffer suspensions, custom bodywork, upgraded brakes and some interior trim changes. It's not yet clear if the new SRT8s will get Chrysler's upcoming 8-speed automatic, but that would certainly help deliver some even more impressive performance without the tremendously bad fuel economy we're used to.

SRT8 durango? fail..... The durango has always been pretty fugly IMHO; If its built on the same platform as the Jeep; however, I suppose it would offer identical performance... if chrysler really needed two entries in the sport-suv market.

Chally, Charger, Jeep (How about a Ram?); glad they're considering dropping the 300, make it a luxury brand and give it the 392 without all the "sport glitz" which just makes it look cheap.

So "larger wheels", would mean 22's. For looks this is a good thing, for performance, the jury is still out. They don't make Nitto NT05's in 22's guys; they dont' make harfdly any serious drag tires in 22... heck 20's were a rare novelty a few years ago just to get radials.

I'd welcome 22's on the Jeep if they gave us 18" brake rotors, but I dont' see that happening, instead I just foresee a lot of empty space in there.

They can keep the 8 speed automatic, I dont need 7 shifts before I hit the traps. Some of the fastest cars on the planet have a powerglide 2-speed. Any automatic transmission is at its weakest while shifting; the more time it spends shifting, the less time it spends putting full power to the wheels. I'd rather they just give the NAG1 a 6th Overdrive for highway crusing and call it quits.

Yeah, in addition, an SRT8 Ram has been missing. The Viper truck was a nice experiment, but lowered, short-body, single-cab ram with the 392 would be pretty sick, especially since you could price it about $10,000 less than the rest of the SRT8 bunch. It would draw the lightening and Silverado SS crowd like a bug zapper as well, great market for top-end sports truck that has been gapped by the other auto makers.

Would be really interesting if an SRT8 ram started life as a 3/4 Ton 4x4 powertrain, you'd have some 9 second pickups show up inside of a year.

Exactly, I'm hearing the Jeep won't make it on the line up of the 2012 SRT8's because of demand being so much lower than the rest of the SRT's (Source= owner of a chrysler/jeep/dodge dealership).

Again, any dealership isn't a reputable source.

It might true because the JEEP SRT8 is the most exclusive of the bunch. If I was Chrysler, I will not produce more than the WK model. I think 10K should be the max. That's just me though. I don't want to see JEEP SRT8's running all over the place.

IMO the new Durango looks good, but IIRC it's got 3rd row seating meaning it's bigger/heavier. I don't think we want heavier.

If you check around you can definately find info that Jeep is planning to release the
SRT8- but if its a 2012 model that will be seen in October of 2011 otherwise it will be October of 2012 meaning its a 2013 model. In any event, a dealer may say its not in the works simply because the sales rating is not high enough to receive one and the customer would have to special order the car. Other dealers who have the high volume will certianly have a few on hand and will be the first to rec them.

Its also been reported on the web that Dodge will have the SRT most likely see first production of the SRT. Of course the only true way to verify is for Chrysler to say so.

As far creating the demand of just 10,000 well thats fine cause that will leave 9,999 left for all of you!

Have you guys not been listening to RS. It's coming, production for the Jeep starts in July. Whatever he says, you can pretty much put it on your calender.

sounds great- so production in july of 11 which means that in the summer of 2012 to fall of 2012 these should be released which would then make it a 2013 model correct?

Well I remember Resume saying (I cant remember if I'm 100% correct on this so correct me RS if you see this or anyone else) that the expected sales date should be September...I'm worse then a kid for his christmas presents right now...little over 9 months till I get mine :D

As to it having 22's. I think you guys are misinterpreting that writeup. It says the SRT8's will get larger wheels. They mean in relation to the non-SRT models. I'd be absolutely shocked if the Jeep had anything bigger than 20's. If the 392 really is as underpowered as it looks like it is (only 470hp), they'll need to not be adding rotating mass and the larger diameter wheels which will both kill performance. Otherwise this new Jeep will not compare favorably at all to the other super-SUVs already on the market.

I agree....mainly because the mules are using 20's....they aren't going to run different sizes on the mules vs production.

^^^^ +1 I agree and I understand now also thanks for clearing all that up...but also isn't the 392 that was dynoed producing 500+ hp...i mean with the 420 (correct) horsepower that came up on the dyno with a 17% loss thats 506 at the crank...

HoustonHemi

mlarco, I never saw those numbers, but it's possible if you saw them it was related to the crate 392 which is a different animal than what they are putting in the production vehicles.

Never saw that before. Who knows though, if the engine was making 500+ in production form, they'd definitely be selling it that way though you know? Seems like everything you see these days 470hp. I guess we'll see...
