On 6/16/07, I will own my Jeep SRT8 for 1 year. I have enjoyed the last year very much. Here is a recap of my experiences at 14,500 miles. Please add your thoughts.

Repairs:
-Tranny O-rings replaced

TSB's Applied:
-Sunroof Recalibration
-TCM Flash
-Rear Brakes Pads Replaced

Surprises:
-Performance in the snow this past winter exceeded my expectations
-Tire wear has been less than expected
-SRT Track Experience, didn't know about it until after purchase so it was a nice surprise
-SRT Engineers making themselves available to us monthly

Dealer Issues:
-At oil change #2, the dealer put one to many quarts (8) of oil in.
-Dealer wanted to rotate my tires

Complaints:
-Too many quirks considered to be normal (i.e. Rear Diff whine, Drivetrain Thud when cold, Funky Noise at Powerdown if you start her-don't drive-then shut off, Hissing/Ringing in hot exhaust that occurred after power down until exhaust was broken in).
-Rear brake squeal (until the TSB came out that is)
-High speed fan too loud
-Paint Quality (i.e. orange peel, front fascia flaking)

My Rating:
A-
-My favorite car of all that I have owned

Soo far my favorite too. It seems like all these rigs will need the o ring replacement within the first year for sure.

How does one know one needs one's O-Rings replaced? Symptoms?

Thanks,

Phil

Mine just turned a year old last thursday, so far no O rings needed. Only 6500 miles so far.

Drivetrain Thud when cold

The engineers have explained that this is some sort of transmission test.

If I remember correctly from previous posts...the symptom is red tranny fluid leaking from under the beast.
If I'm wrong, somebody please correct me....just trying to help :o

That would definitely be a clear indicator. Thanks.

You will also have a burning fluid smell around the time it will start to leak when you WOT.

Just wait, I thought I got away with no leak and last week it finally showed up. Just over a year after build date. Dealer got me in next day and was an easy 20 minute fix.

Handy update and all accurate. Agree on the winter driving being ok. Got asked at a golf course the other day and the father and son told me the dealer quoted them $10,000 for a winter tire pkg and said can't drive it in the snow without it.....Love those dealers.

I asked if they would be rotating my tires at my second oil change, but the service adviser quickly replied that you can't because tires are different size....PASS.

Are you guys paying for the "o rings" or are those covered under warranty?

I've owned mine for 18 months. Similar problems to jlandbj, but absolutely no regrets. Get a nice crisp cool morning on the way to work, and lay in to gas pedal, and all is good! Even going home in the heat, with the GSM phenolic spacers, 180 degree thermostat, fan mod, and IAT mod, this Jeep is still an animal. Nothing else out there I can think of that can match it for the price.

Any of the DCX vehicles with the WA580 trans will need the O-ring update. I am waiting for the 300 to need them. The GC was already done.
