Hey Guys,

Just placed an order for an '07 SRT8, silver, loaded etc. I should have it in about a week and am planning on sending it to Hennessey in Texas to get the SRT500 package put in place. However, I have read here that Hennessey has a pretty ****ty reputation and am weary about sending my new baby there. The reason why I want to do this is because I can easily roll the cost of the car + the hennessey package into my financing deal. Also, the srt500 package consists of all strap-on parts (i.e. intake, exaust, midpipe and headers ...) so there isn't much that could go wrong here. I feel like their custom 600 turbo system has much more room for error. They say the installation takes two weeks. Any thoughts?

Hmm... Well, just do a search for Hennessey and you will have your answer. Personally I would not do it. Plus for the price he charges you could do a heck of alot more to your Jeep.

I wouldn't trust Hennessey with a 99¢ Hot Wheel.

If you're on the fence, just read about him here. If that's not enough, go check out the Viper boards. I am predominately on GM boards and he is sometimes talk of the town there.

What sucks is, from all indications, he really is a good tuner. I've actually talked to him on the phone before and he's a hell of a nice guy to talk to. But no way would I trust him with anything of mine simply from what I have read about on all of the message boards alone.

Hey Guys,

I'm not exactly sure I understand - what is exactly the problem with this guy and his business? Does not do things in a timely manner? Ruins cars? Mods don't work? I mean - like I said before the SRT500 package is simple, 'strap on' parts - exaust, intake, headers - nothing complicated or 'experimental' by any means - so what could this 'professional' tuner possibly screw up on such a relatively simple job? Also, I've never been one to be screwed with, so if anything did happen, I would go to war - does no one else who has dealt with him and has had problems have this same mentality?

Have you looked for other shops that will do the same job for half the price and also have a good reputation?
In the end, if you go there, be smart and have a lawyer write up a contract for YOU. Make him tell you the price up front and the exact date everything will be done. Don't give him front money. And make him honor the contract.

Depending on where you area located, I would recommend HHP in Delware. They have chrysler certified mechanics and do honest work. The gusy are great to work with and as far as I know (including my experience) they are good at what they do. Reliability goes alot further than other things, so check around. If this is a daily driver like mine is then you want it to go right the first time. I had ALOT of work done and they did it in 5 days, no problems so far!

You just had a bunch of people tell you he's not trustworthy and there is evidence all over the internet to back this up. Why continue to debate the issue? Find another shop that can do the same thing for half the price and has a good reputation. Even if Hennessey was trustworthy, you're overpaying for the final product because it has his name on it.

I haven't debated the issue at all - I am simply asking all relevent questions to get the full story - switching over from a range rover to a jeep, so i have a lot of learning to do ...

Well after all that is said about John Hennessey I still took a chance and bought some things from him and got screwed. I first bought the throttle body for $800.00 which came with no problem. The only thing was you had to take parts from the factory throttle body and switch them over to the Hennessey and for $800.00 I thought that should have been included. All that comes is the throttle plate and the body. All and all no big deal i would deal with that. Second i bought the chrome intake for $1,300 Jennifer in the office told me that they didnt have any to send me and it was an exchange. I told her no big deal Ill send her mine and she would chrome it and send the exact one back. Well when i recieved it back the chrome had some defects in it and was discolored in a few spots. Again I thought i would deal with it. When I went to intall it I realized that it was not the exact intake. 2003 Vipers have smaller bolt holes for the throttle plate that holds the throttle cables and in 2005 the updated to bigger bolt holes. Again I would deal with it. I took it to my machinist and he drilled and tapped them out no big deal. Well When I went to put it on there were 2 small cracks in the chrome and the metal around the fuel injector bolts. I emailed John and he never answered me. I asked him if I could send this one back with another unchromed intake and he could have it inreturn that he sent me another chrome intake. No answer. I sold the intake for $250.00 and now that person has put it on ebay for $400.00 so im assuming that he fixed the cracked metal. Luckly I have the unchromed intake and i sent it to a local chromer that does excellent work. He assured me that it will turn out perfect and be much much cheaper. As soon as i get it back and the price Ill let everyone know incase your interested.

And from one of our Viper Truck club long time members.....

This was a $60,000.00 build......How much were you planning on spending?????

Let the pics be your guide.

Guys here are some shots of my Smoking Hennessey Twin Turbo....I drove it for approx. 5 mile and let the truck warm up....I did NOT put my foot into it....no real boost at all.....I have talked about this but this is the first time I have posted any pictures.

I wouldn't ask that azz clown what time it was in a clock factory. Never mind the numerous cars that he's just flat out ruined, he's straight up stolen from his customers, selling take offs from customers' cars, etc., etc., etc. It's not internet rumor either, search the local TX BBB records on-line and I also recall someone posting his extraordinarily numerous (civil) court cases. Horror show doesn't begin to describe that douche bag, and if you spend one red cent with him and get hosed, don't say you weren't warned, repeatedly, in a loud and booming voice.

Alternative? Someone already said it, Josh @ HHP (in Delaware) can help you out.

Congrats on the new ride and good luck,

Matty
