: Got Back From a 2 Day StreetRacing Event!!!

I was going to post last night but I decided to wait until today because I had 9 more runs. If you don't know what the FlashLight Drags are click the link and see what they are about. http://www.alteredgas.com/flashlight_drags.htmlIt is hard to really explain how exciting these 2 events were, but if you are a jeep owner and you've surprised someone with the awsome speed of the jeep and then they wanted to know about it, times that by 300+ cars per event racing and 1000+ spectators... It was something else to see 1000+ heads checking out the beast comming back in the slow lane, looking at the truck in disbelief.. There were so many comments made that I can't remember them all, but they were all very complementary. I am going to run down the list of cars/trucks/bikes that I raced with wins & losses. A guy I met there who happened to park next to me was in a Red with White stripes 1965 Cobra AC Kit Car with a 427 550hp.
Here Is how both days went down in order from beginning to end:
All races were just a tad over 1/8mile, and I say a tad because through the lights I was a consistant 88-89mph. So definiteley a bit farther than 1/8th.
DAY 1
1. 2006 V6 Mustang / WIN / Don't know how many Bus lengths
2. AC Cobra / WIN / Fender (this is when people started to crap their pants)
3. AC Cobra / tie / I'm happy (same for the crowd again but louder comments what kinda truck is that? ect ,ect ,ect..)
4. AC Cobra / loss / fender (Guy is getting better at stick shifing)
5. 1994-95 Twin Turbo 300 Z / WIN / Buslength and a half
6. 98 Lingenfelter Vette Supercharged / WIN / Guy was pissed and told me how he was missing shifts, and its a new tune
7. 98 Camaro SS with headers & some engine work / WIN / Half a fender
8. Same as #6 he let the tranny shift / loss / Fender length
9. Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel set at 48psi / loss / Got Stomped by 3-4 car lengths
10. 76 Trans Am built 455 on slicks / loss / got him to 60 and he walked away from there.
11. 98-99 C5 vette / WIN / 2-3 car lengths guy didn't talk much before and especially after...

DAY 2:
1. 06 mustang GT / WIN / 5-6 carlengths his car was a stick shift
2. 07 Jeep SRT8 /WIN / half a car length
This 3rd race was kinda funny so I have to explain. A guy parked next to me on a scooter and we proceded to talk and he was telling me how he beats all these cars because the scooter has some type of snowmobile engine. So I think he seen me as an easy target and asked to race, I obliged, and he got STOMPED BIG TIME. I thought when I looked in my rear view mirror that it was a the kinda scooter you peddal. After the race he came over a said I've never been beat that bad out of the hole, you killed me. So for the whole time I was there the guy kept saying things after each car I beat like "He must of missed a shift" "I thought those GTOs were faster" at the end of the day I was getting pretty pissed at his comments and was ready to tell him if he could please STFU because you're working on my last nerve. So anyway:
3. Scooter / WIN / 6-7 buslengths
4. 1970 340 Cuda / WIN / 2 buslengths
5. 06 vette / WIN / by a fender the vette was a 6 speed
6. same vette in race 5 / loss / half a car
7. 07 Jeep SRT8 / WIN / fender "The fans were asking for this one"
8. 92 Vette / WIN / 2-3 car lengths
9. 2005 GTO with the ram air hood / WIN / 6-7 car lengths, not even a contest. Stick Shift also.

I could not get anymore races after the GTO, as I walked around people started to avoid me the like the Plague, looking away when I would make eye contact to talk, walking towards the fans to talk, or just smiling and saying "You'll kill me". So I took those comments as a win and if I add those in you could put about a dozen more wins in my column. It was a blast and these are the first 2 days of the season, there are 11-12 more to come which I will be at. I am sorry that I got no video, I had no one to video any of my runs I was at both events alone and knew no one to trust with my DVD camcorder. I will try next time, since my father will be back from vacation.

The only Jerk I met was at the first race day, and the guy had some 1986 camaro with a built whatever engine and he called me out to run first. I told him that I already had 3 races lined up but I will find him afterwards to run. After my 3rd race I parked to let the truck cool down and he came over to me and said in a smart ass tone "You know that guy in the black charger SRT8 you were talking to?" I said" Yeah", and He replied "I just wiped the floor with him and I'm going to do the same to you" My first initial response was to punch out his GREEN CROOKED TEETH and as he takes a nap, I stand over him and say "Who's wiping whos floor now chump!".....oh my younger days, but maturity and a job that can be lost due to jail time came to mind, so I just laughed in his face like a mental patient (actually ex-mental patient ;) ). The guy in the Cobra said "was he being serious?" Yep. I got ahold of this guy for the last set of races because I hunted for him, he looked a little shocked when I pulled next to him and said "So Are you ready to whip me now?" As we sit in the staging lanes he comes up to me and says "I'm not going to be able to race you because I was picked to run in the "Street Contender Event" so I have to just stay here. So as I start my car I look at him and camly say "lucky for you because this is not that black charger" and off to home I head.

I hope the info was enjoyable, I really wanted to give the members here a good look at other cars out there and how we stack up. This event would be the closet thing to a real street race. There is a huge difference between the street and the strip and alot of $$$ cars with big mods could just do about nothing except spin or dog it off the line. I'm happy with my results.
I've never loved a vehicle before but I do now!!!

Great write up, I enjoyed reading your post! It sounds like you edged out a couple wins on other jeeps, do you have any mods, or was that due to you having a better reaction time?

The guy with the other jeep has an 07 and mine is an 06. I think potentally due to me possibly having more miles 8,000 compared to his. I do have the tranny TSB flash and he does not. On the second race I heard him hit the rev limiter. I told him about the TSB and how it will remove that. I do know I had a better start on the first run and on the second run he got the jump by a hair (hence the tighter race)

Wow, that sounds like an intense event! Where is this held? We should get a fleet of Jeeps from here to show up and just DOMINATE.

EDIT: I found the link in your OP. I'm thinking a trip out to Johnstown might be in order! June 24th looks like the closest event.

Awesome write-up!

I've run my "pretty decent" 5.0 Mustang at those Flashlight Drags and they are a humbling event!

There are some seriously fast cars there... sounds like you had a great time!

I'll try to make the next one and keep my eyes open for you.

Great Read. Thanks for sharing. I wish we had these events in Toronto area. Or at least I will now be researching to see if we do.

I got there late but did see you run the red/white Cobra. Nice job. I tried to find you after the Big Dog final but you must have snuck outa there before that. Nice looking Jeep. I love the Inferno. The TSB flash won't fix that guys 07. Mine does the same thing and it has the latest software in it.

I didn't make it up to Clarion Sunday. Did the Norris's kick everybodys butts again?

Yo...luvr....this is the guy with the silver 07 from the flashlight drags mentioned above. When I was trying to figure out why you were pulling me so hard down the track and I asked you what you had done to yours...you failed to mention the B&G Stage II. Hmmmm....that could be why you were beating me. So when you told me you were probably pulling me because of TSB flash you had done, was that a joke or what? LOL....Too funny. Anyways....It's all good...I understand!

Mango, I'll be there for that one also, as long as the "SRT Weather Gods" permit. It would be great to meet you there and do a little 1/8mile stomp.

It is a humbling event for sure, because you'll get a good stretch of runs and some wins, start feeling confident and then get spanked. The emotional rollercoaster ride is incredible to say the least. I'll look for ya gp.

oh...i know there is...but the point is...he told me he had intake/exhaust...as do i...and he walked me down the track twice...it concerned me. Started to think maybe there was something wrong with the girl because he was pulling me pretty hard thru the traps. His answer was that it was because i didn't have the tsb. I knew then that there was more to the story...ya feel me? lol. Looking forward to next time;)

ROLLINHI believe me when I'm telling you this, the BS I gave you was not to "F" you around, I would never do that to another Jeep Owner, but at that event you were with another person and to disclose certain things could be potentially hazzardous on my part, if you were alone things would of been handled different, trust me on this. I talked to dozens of people who had nothing to do with being a jeep owner and all they know is the truck has a 6.1. I did feel bad because I knew you would be wondering what the hell is wrong, because that is what I would of been doing. I hope you understand my point of view. I do apologize if this caused you worry about the performance of your vehicle.
:)
Let me know if your going to the next event in Edensburg, would be great to have another Jeep Owner to BS with and race with.
Take it easy. :D

GodfatherSRT8, you are correct and I did get it for my 06. It transformed the shifting of the truck. My truck would smack that rev limiter all the time in autostick and 2 out of 3 WOT 0-60. Now it is gone, defitely a must if you have this problem. One other thing GodfatherSRT8 I think it was you that had the avatar with the well endowed bouncing bikini top, if you know what I mean? A while back my 3 year old son walked in one day and seen them and said "Boobies". I just about pissed myself. Now every time I come to this site he says "Boobies" and laughs. 3 year olds..............
