: buying a 2007 SRT-8 should I go with a base model, or the 29l SRT package
TypeR0149 06-09-2007, 06:22 PM Hello everyone My name is Mike
I owned a 300c SRT-8, and just sold my z06
well I have decieded im getting a Black SRT-8 jeep
my question is this
I dont like the navi in these cars and want to upgrade the stereo, so i dont need that option.
I want to do a HID kit in the car though
the 29l package offers the smartbeam headlights(are they better or worse for doing HID's) and special trim
should i spend the $2700 on the package or go with a base model?
gpfarrell 06-09-2007, 07:34 PM Isn't that also climate control, heated seats, and lots of the other toys?
I wouldn't want one without those goodies!
I understand the NAV and Radio decision, but coming from a 300C I think the Jeep might feel plain without some toys.
QBNKID 06-09-2007, 08:13 PM Why not just wait for the '08, you can actually order one already, they'll have the HIDs you want right from factory and a touch-screen navi unit that you might like better than the current one and you might not even have to go to an aftermarket one. Do a search on the '08s and you'll see. Some guys from here have already ordered '08s.
TypeR0149 06-09-2007, 11:19 PM i own a few differant cars all with Navi and the DCX cars have the worst in the market
I need a SUV before july 4th when i take my long summer trip with the wife
so i cant wait for the 08's
I live in florida, all i care about is if it has AC, heated seats i dont care about
im exited about getting the car, im buying it because its fast to 60mph and i can put a decent stereo in it.
ROLLINHI 06-10-2007, 08:22 AM i would get the upgraded model. The ones withouth the factory nav have a different dash bezel too. you can just swap out a nice touch screen right in there...and put the factory nav radio on ebay...they bring pretty big money. plus all the other goodies too!

I would disagree about being the worst in the market, besides not being touchscreen. I used mine a lot on vacation in California and it was perfect to find everything I needed to, including searching for restaurants and tourist attractions with the search function.
TypeR0149 06-10-2007, 02:18 PM no they really have the worst been rated on the bottom of the heap by almost every tech mag.
mine in my acura is flawless, in the 300c it was horriable, my wifes new caddy is so-so, and the new lexus is not half bad. but nothing compares to the acura navi
slow91 06-10-2007, 05:21 PM but nothing compares to the acura navi
Except knowing the directions before you leave the house.:D

I can only assume you are referring to whistles and bells like touch screen, graphics, input knobs/buttons etc. If it accomplishes what it is supposed to, what else can a "tech" magazine rate them on, except maybe "user friendliness" terms? Not really following you here. I use mine fairly frequently, and it has yet failed to take me where I want to go, or found me a location or service I am looking for, with a minimal amount of input.
To me that's working "flawlessly" enough. It works as advertised. Same as my old S&W model 60 5 shot revolver can accomplish the same result as my Taurus 13 round semi. They will both "git er done" to my satisfaction for 99%of the applications I might ever have to use them for.
It's all good. :D
TypeR0149 06-10-2007, 08:30 PM I could use my old 2004 acura's navi at any speed, the voice control was great I would tell the car everything from "find nearest gas station" to "radio 105.5 fm"
Tech is all about ease of use, flexability, and accuracy, not just end results.
DJ Red Barron 06-11-2007, 04:47 AM Another vote for loading your SRT up. Giving up NAVI leaves too many other toys off the list.
I don't need a NAVI unit either. But I am going to give MyGig a fair shake. If it's not what I want to keep, I have a Pioneer AVIC Z-1 with all the bells & whistles ready to fill the space in the dash.
**EDIT** As already mentioned, I would (am, actually) hold out for the '08 model and it will have some of the stuff you're wanting already on it.
TypeR0149 06-17-2007, 06:03 PM have to decied by tommorow if I need to upgrade to this package
Derwood98 06-17-2007, 06:11 PM Personally I like the nav package in mine. It's awesome. I also use my phone through uconnect. The combination of all the goodies is great. I can be chatting on the phone through uconnect with the nav and it will still tell me where I need to go. When I hang up the call, the stereo comes back up and then quiets down when another direction comes up. I don't know about the other navs, but this one does all I need and then some. Nothing like voice recognition dialing too. :D
TypeR0149 06-17-2007, 07:21 PM if you think the jeep is good, you may not be into the the cars, but go to your local acura store and have the nai and voice control system shown to you. it is phenominal. made my 300c REC NAVI look and feel like it was designed by retards
gpfarrell 06-18-2007, 10:22 AM I think you should buy another Acura.
They have incredible engineering and ergonomics, and you like their NAV system the best.
Several folks here have offered you input with regard to the Jeep's current and future NAV systems, and in return you praise the Acura and call the Chrysler engineers retards.
So buy a NAV system with an Acura wrapper.
But remember, an SRT-8 driver could get lost several times and still get to their destination ahead of everybody else!:D
tainui 06-18-2007, 12:15 PM Wifey drives an Acura and I thought my Nav was cool until I saw hers. Ours really does suck when compared to some better units. Touchscreen is great but the Voice recognition is GREAT.
Also the....Not-having-to-work-some-crazy-patch-to-burn-a-disk-and-hope-you-don't-fry-your-nav-to-be-able-to-find-directions-while-moving feature is pretty nice too.
T-Time 06-18-2007, 02:54 PM Does the Acura tell you where the closest pep boys and autozone is? I'd like that feature.
I usually have too many g-forces planting my *SS into the seat to mess around with the damn navi anyway!:D
