: Miles per tank

I have used the search all morning to find a good list of how many miles people are getting per tank and come up lacking.

Using my own calculations:
14 mpg and the average fill up is about 17 gallons means the trip-meter should be reading about 238 miles per tank.

What I have found in the threads is about 200 per tank.

I do mostly highway driving and expect (after a few months of driving the 08 like a raped ape) to get about 17 mpg. So that would mean about 289 per tank.

But with the discrepancy of the miles to empty gauge I should really be expecting about 18.5 to 19 gallons per fill up

So that means about 300+ miles per tank.

Can anyone tell me if my calculations are correct?

Right now I get over 300 miles per tank on my Ram 1500, but I am filling 21-23 gallons per fill up...I would like to be able to drive the same amount of miles between gas stations...

Personally, I'd say the 200 is accurate. The car lies and tells you that you are out of gas after 17-18 gallons. They leave you 3 gallons to get to a station when your car says 0 miles left. Sure, you might get 238 if you push the tank to totally empty, or if you drive like a granma :p , but I haven't read too much about guys that drive like that on this forum.
Most people drive this car for a reason, fun! And that means wasting gas. :D

I do almost all city driving and I'm getting about 215 miles per tank.

When the needle gets to zero, there is still about 10 litres of fuel in the tank. When I fill up, the gauge goes to 66litres. The capacity is 77litres.

Make sure you account for the extra 10 litres.

even better, carry some spare fuel and run it until the car stops due to lack of fuel. You will notice the needle going about almost a quarter below the "zero" line.

Following on from previous post...

I ran the car on cruise control for 315 miles on one tank at 70mpg (no deviation). Had about 1 litre left in the tank when I bottled out and refilled.

200-230 for "normal" driving -- mixed highway and city. However, normal in this thing is "there is no way this Assclown is passing me"...... or, "you want to tailgate? Tailgate this! Bye bye!" The right pedal is addictive.

Of course there was one time in Germany that I only got 168 miles to a tank. It was an awesome tankfull of gas, but those speeds would land you in jail here.....without a get out of jail free card.

I'm with Bahn on the range and his description of the mix.

So if I understand right, most of you are filling up with 17 gallons...so that means the average MPG is 11.76.

Dont get me wrong I am not buying this for the economy I am just trying to see what I should expect. My truck right now gets 12-14 or so depending on how I drive it.

Funny that it used to always get 12 mpg...for years. Recently it has been averaging 14 or so. The only explination is that I am not driving like an @ss as much anymore...I think something happened when I turned 30...

Thanks for all the input!

Also depends on what gas, I use to always use Shell. On a recent 2500 mile trip from Colorado to California we got 16.5 per gallon with Shell, then when I used Conoco or Texaco I got 18-18.5 a gallon in mountain driving, so it does depend on what brand.
