Hello Everyone!

Been a busy week for me. Laid Off this week so decided to work on the honey do list and my own.

First off, I finally got the courage to install my VLED Switchbacks after doing much research on this forum. Installation was successfull. I own a 2010.

Here is a link to my YouTube video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0zbmCf15X0

Sorry about the music but the wife was in the drivers seat changing the headlight controls for me. And no I'm not a very good camera man, I tried.

Anyways I decided to pull the headlights to gain easier access to the wiring. Note to self - Never Ever will I do this again - complete pain in the arse. I did notice the access doors in the wheel wells but found it blocked with insulation and didn't want to mess with it. Knowing what I know now I would have accessed the sidemarker lights from this access point instead of pulling the headlights. At the time I couldn't get solid answers on how people were accessing the sidemarkers as from what I could see it was blocked by sheet metal unless you accessed them from the access door in the wheel wells.

Anyways there are 3 screws that hold in the headlights and the first one is on top and another in front at the bottom of the headlight next to the fascia(most troublesome one to remove and reinstall) and one from behind the headlight accessible from under the jeep @ wheel well. I was carefull with removing the headlights taking note of any points of where they could get scratched but I still ended up putting some small scratches on the drivers side, I ended up putting electrical tape on the fender corners on the backside, even though it was painted and kinda smooth it was still scratching up my drivers side headlight. No biggie the scratches are covered by the fender and the hood. Anyways I had removed/installed the headlight several times as I dropped the screws several times trying to get my fingers in the very tight areas behind the fascia and a wrench/socket/etc whatever to loosen/tighten the screws. It is almost nearly impossible to get in there, removal of the fascia would be best, but I don't have replacement rivets for the wheel wells or a rivet gun.

Anyways I used 1 3ohm resistor per side and used some tap splice connectors to tap the off the yellow wire coming off the back of the socket and the other end of the resistor wire I went to an existing ground. I did this on both sides. I mounted the resistors as per the pictures I have provided. I thought this was a good location. I was thinking underneath the headlight where there is a big enough gap between the headlight and the frame. But figured why take the chance. I measured the temp of the resistors with a digital laser reader and they were running hot 195degrees Celsius. Anyways I did try using 2 resistors in parallel and found that it didn't make a difference. The only difference was now I have to mount 2 resistors. The temp of the second resistor was a little less(-25-50C). I even put a 3rd resistor in parallel (to lower resistance to .75ohm) and found a minor improvement I believe in the 2 second delay. Side note - I was also using Vled sidemarker Leds. What I did notice was that unless the parking light circuit was activated the sidemarkers would not light up. If I reinstalled the stock halogen bulb than it would. Anyways I did mention this to Ken at Taillight solutions and he spent 2 hours and finally figured out the reason for this and shot me a pm with explanation/diagram. I guess the led sidemarker bulbs are not providing enough resistance.

Anyways quite happy with my install, looks great!

Next up I installed my wifes Borbet rims and Blizzaks. Than I installed my F10 Rims and Blizzaks. On both installs I had TPMS sensors installed and they both were running instantly - no relearning or anything. The only problem with my install was that I had to run to the store and get a deep 19mm impact socket. The lug nut holes were very deep. A very usefull tool I just bought on sale (Was $219 Sale $99Cnd) from Canadian Tire was a 1/2" 8.5A Digital Impact Wrench. This made taking off and reinstalling the wheels easy. You can set the torque settings on the top of the gun. Some pics to follow of my install. I also took the time to throughly clean the stock set of rims. I got out the power washer and sprayed them down and then got out a degreaser and brush and scrubbed them to 'As New' conditon. Turned out great, they will be ready for spring.

Then I decided since my 1 year anniversay on the Jeep is coming up, I'll take the jeep to the dealer to see if there was anything they could do about the Freight Train squeal or any TSB's. My brakes started making noise after about 3k kms. The Service manager is a cool guy, very mod friendly. Anyways I told them about the various things I've learned on this forum, and they found that my front rotors were smoothed off near the edge, so my pads would slide close or over a bit on the edge and hit the rust and thus make the noise. I guess the back rotors have a slight say 45 deg. angle groove near the edge. Anyways they took the pads and champhered the edges. Then they lubed the slides and pins. So far so good no noise. Hopefully this will last a while. They also mentioned that it was not wise to turn the rotors.

Well there it is. Sorry if I was a bit long.

Hopefully the very hot resistors won't make contact with the hood insulation. If I see any evidence of scorching etc. I will just remove a 2 inch piece.

Not bad. thanks for the pics. good to learn thers a access door for the side marker lights. :) , I used to remove the whole headlight just to get to them..:(

I do the same thing, remove the whole headlight. WTF I did not know there was an acces door.

Looks Great. Nice Job :bigthumb::bigthumb:

I'm still puzzled by your side marker operation but at least you got the SB's to work in a 2010 :D

If you ever get a free few minutes swap out one of the 194 LED's with the stock halogen bulb and see if starts to flash when the parking light circuit is activated. That is how I corrected my flash issues even though mine were the exact opposite of what your experiencing.

Thanks! I wrote down on a piece of paper all the various operations I did during install. I tried the stock sidemarker bulbs with parking circuit on and it did flash.

Here are the results, forgot to post it. Hopefully the stuff below makes sense I was trying to re-read my notes and this is what I came up with below.

Stock 3157 Bulb/Stock 194 Bulb - Park On/Turn Signal On = Alternate Amber Flash
- Park Off/Turn Signal On = Amber Flash and stock side in Unison

SB 3157 Bulb/Stock 194 Bulb (1 Resistor) - Park On/Turn Signal On = Amber Flash and side alternate
- Park On/Turn Off = White
- Park Off/Turn On = Amber Flash and stock side in Unison

SB/LED 194 Bulb (1 Resistor) - Park Off/Turn Signal On = Amber Flash & Led Side Flash in Unison
- Park On/Turn Off = White Only
- Park On/Turn On = Amber Flash Only/ No Sidemarker

4 Ways SB/LED - Amber Flash no sidemarker
4 Ways Stock - Amber Flash in unison with sidemarker

Also hooked up 2 resistors and 3 resistors in parallel and it made no difference. 2 Second Delay is Present. I did notice a small fractional improvement IMHO with the delay with less resistance.

Odd, mine with the SB and LED alternate flash with the parking lamps on....and the sidemarker does not flash with the lights off.

Yeah strange, just went and doubled checked mine.

Park On Turn On Amber flash only no sidemarker.

Park Off and Turn On Amber and LED side flash in unison.
