I have been really thinking about trading my 07 silverado in on an srt8 grand. When i bought my truck back in december i needed to haul all my tools around but i no longer need a truck and would like to get some thing else. I stopped by the jeep dealership yesterday and was looking at the grands. My concerns are the gas mileage, and towing a trailor. I was planning on getting a challanger or camaro when they come out but i have always had 4x4 trucks and suv's and i think i would be happier in a jeep. my daily comute today is 50 miles each way. i am planning on moving closer to my work and thats the only way i would get a srt8 is if i cut my commut in half. What kind of mileage is everyone getting? is the 15 highway that they clame accurate? Whats the recomended fuel to run in the 6.1? the jeep would be a 3 season daily driver. In the event that i want to tow a boat or one of my trailors would this be possible? jeep clames its not recomended? Anyone have a hitch on theres and how does it tow? I saw the thread on the differences in the 08's and other than the darker interior none of the other options would intrest me. Any advice that owners can give would be great. I am looking for a unique, fun, sporty and fast vehicle and the jeep seems to be a perfect match for those needs. Also this may be a stupid question to everone here but has anyone seen or heard of a lifted srt8 grand? or has anyone gone with larger street tires on theres? IMO i think the tires look to small on them stock partially because of the low profile tires on such a large rim. I have seen a few SRT rams lifted and IMO for me its the perfect match. I have always had lifted trucks and the jeep would not be to offroad but to get more ground clearance and to be a unique mod that will set this vehicle even further apart from the norm. Also just how many of the 07's are left at dealerships. and how long will they be there? I would be ready to make a purchase in the next 2-3 months but would like to take advantage of the insentives offered on the 07's

Thanks to all who reply

If your commute is mainly highway you will be fine. I routinely pull 17mpg cruising at 80mph in 5th gear. City is a different matter entirely and the 12mpg estimate is fairly accurate. I floor it every opportunity I have but try and keep it in the highest gear when in traffic and I average between 13 and 13.8mpg with 60-70% city miles.

As far as a trailer there are several solutions available. Most seem to be rated for 3500lbs but a few have done 5000lb rated setups, I believe without modifying the exhaust. Jeep itself should soon have a hitch setup available for 3500lbs as well. I'd recommend searching for hitch to see what some members have done. Here are some results:

When I had mine, I averaged around 13 MPG....I could get 16 on the Highway....It uses Premium. Its mission is life is not to tow or go off road. If you live in a snow state, becareful over 7" of snow, or the front fascia becomes a plow. Check the vehicle over before you sign....really look at the paint.

I would move and shorten your commute before you buy the Jeep. It sounds like gas prices might be an issue for you. I don't keep up with my gas averages, but it seems like no matter what, I am getting about 200 miles to a tank. And that means that you will be spending $60-70 every other day to fill it up. I'd say 2/3 of my miles are highway and the rest are city or light to light.
As you said, this is a great vehicle if you want utility, looks and speed.
Good luck, and make sure it is the right vehicle for you before you get it, it is easy to want to impulse buy on something like this.
