Currently thinking about getting the SRT8 as i keep flip flopping with decisions but have a few questions.
I currently live in New York so bad weather is a major factor in making the switch from an audi to the srt8. How does the srt8 handle in the snow and also how does she handle as a dd? One more question is how does the srt8 handle with the turns something I love doing in my audi. How does the srt8 handle as a performance suv?

I look forward to joining the club. What years should i look out for since I would be buying preowned

What kind of Audi we talking here ... IMO I think the JEEP SRT8 is an all year around car ,Total Package Period .

Are you talking NYC area or upstate NY or what? IMO my SRT8 is much more fun to use as a DD than my Porsche Cayenne. What you lose in mileage you gain in thrills. SRT8 handles great and away from gas is very practical. Im North shore LI and drive it up and down the east coast to lacrosse games.

Im located on LI. I have an 05 audi a4 so theres not anything to compare as of power but as far as the handling and how it handles in the snow is pretty solid. I got a chance to drive one but not to its capacity basicly around parking lot so i didnt get to experience anything actaully. If i were to go preowned what years should i be looking for? Does anyone actaully drive theirs in the snow?

I think a lot of people use them all year - many change the wheels/tires out for a winter setup. I am doing that right now. I have a 2010 so can't really talk about older models but many guys on this forum know all the ins and outs of the older model years.

I use my jeep year round as a dd, and northeast Pa winters are no joke. No problems at all. If you have any doubts about the turning and handling, go to the srt track experience and all of your concerns will vanish!

i was in your situation as in "ny snow traveling"

i frequent both the city and upstate ny in the winters/snow/etc.

let me just say i wish i wouldve bought the beast sooner as the way it handled was much better than expected. as long as you dont go to fast youll be ok, if you slip youll recoup like that. im still on runflats so with snow tires the ride would be much better as the majority will tell you that.

as for DD- i think it depends if its city driven daily or highway mileage daily. city will kill your gas mileage- tremendously..upstate highways not soo much. be prepared to drop thousands and thousands on gas alone yearly.(goes with out saying though- eats children for breakfast like mike tyson- :D)

you ask what years to look out for... some people like the early models and some people prefer the later models (08-10) for the refreshment of the front and interior changes.

some major changes that took place in the 2008 and up models were:

-front bumper changed from a two piece to a one flush piece(lower front grille) and to accommodate the newer refreshed headlights (no gaps underneath the headlight units)
-they changed the headlights a lil bit as well. the HID projection is favored over the two.
-the grey colored leather for the inside changed from a light slate grey to a dark almost black grey.
-the cluster gauges lights up in bright white instead of indiglo with added instrument sections
-the nav screen with touch screen instead of push botton and knobs to turn. also screen got bigger.

^^^thats just off the top of my head. surely theres more but those are the stand outs as to what changed. as you can very minimal. they are all obviously 6.1s-nothing changed about the engine bay except for maybe the coolant reserve tank changed. all in all i say go for it. i waited 4 years too long to enjoy a jeep like this. you will be pleased for sure all year round.

good luck!

This video was taken with the stock wheels and tires on. It actually drives very well in the snow.

I’m in Calgary Canada and we get snow here 6 months of the year (sometimes 8). I traded my Charger SRT8 on the Jeep so I could drive a decent vehicle year round. The Charger was not getting off the driveway most days up here in the winter.
The stock run flat tires on the Jeep are decent when they are new on the snow being an all season tire. I find they are good on packed snow and decent on icy conditions. I don’t like them on fresh snow conditions greater than 2” as they tend to hydroplane and I will fishtail a bit at speeds over 60km/hr. Last winter when the tires were brand new I found they did the trick and no need to go to a full winter tire / rim combo. Now I have 20,000km’s on my unit, the stock tires look to be around 70% good still but they do not handle near as well on the snow now. We just got our first good dump a few days ago so I am going to evaluate a little further but I think I will be getting snow tires now for her very soon. With snow tires the Jeep is capable in almost any snow conditions. The one area you can run into problems still is front ground clearance and “plowing” snow with the lower fascia if the snow is too deep.

You'll be fine with the SRT8 as your winter ride. Just put on winter tires.

I had a 2005 Audi S5 previously, and this will be my first winter with the SRT-8 here in North Jersey. The Jeep should be fine with winter tires.

How was the switch from the audi to the jeep? and do you mean 2005 s4 or 2007 s5?

I studied pictures of the front end of an 07 and an 08 and man I can't see a difference. I do like the darker interior of the 08

The Jeep would probably beat your audi in the corners if thats an issue for you.
