As many of you on here have, I fell victim to the dreaded GY tire separation at 25000km. Did everyone replace all 4 tires in this case due to the tread wear and our AWD system effecting the transfer case? Or did you just replace 2?

Depends on how much tread is left on the other tires....most of the time all 4 need to be replaced.

Mine seperated at 45000km, so I replaced all 4 with Nitto NT420's.

The separated fronts have been replaced with used I bought with about 9/32 left and the rears have just under 8/32 left.

I had a front go bad at ~18k miles, Goodyear replaced all 4 for $600.

I'm in the process of replacing just my front 2 GY tires, the stock ones. Replacing them with 275/40/20 Nitto Invos, whenever they arrive. Still running stock rear GY.

You're not concerned about the issues that can arise with the TC and uneven tread depth?

Uneven how? Hows that any different than having 2 worn out tires in front and good tread in back? My rear tires are still like new and have plenty of tread on them.

Its not, thats my question. Does it cause problems with variances in tread depth from not replacing all 4 tires?

I can't say for certain, but I'd guess no. The AWD system can't be so picky as to say all tires need to be within x/32s at all times. That would be rediculous.

One would think not, however the service manager I spoke to yesterday claims there can only be 2/32 variance front to back before issues can arise in the AWD system. I dunno...

Well, I've replaced my factory GY fronts with Nitto Invo 275/40/20 and still running the stock GY 285/40/20 on back. No problems.
