: Borla On In Minnesota
Derwood98 06-04-2007, 07:44 PM Oh My! Is all I can say. It I received mine today and it installs super easy. Just make sure you get pleanty of silicone spray on the hangers. And, you HAVE to get the car off the ground if you want to make your life easy.
I have to say that Borla did an excellent job in making this exhaust. Not only is it easy to install, but it looks awesome and it's much lighter then stock. There may even be room for a spare tire now.. LOL
Now, for the noise level. Let me warn you, if you have any concerns about noise, wait for the touring version. I was a little iffy myself, but I guess I will have to learn how to drive it smarter. Lets just say that if you thought you had attention before, double it now. There is no sneaking in the driveway at night without the neighbors knowing. Also, by driving smarter I mean don't go pealing out of the bar after a few drinks. Someone is sure to notice.. ;) And it won't be the people you want to notice you..
Having said that... It sounds AWESOME. Nice deep rumble and a LOUD roar at WOT or getting up to speed. For those of you who purchase this exhaust and have debadged, don't worry. The person you killed will be more in awe of the rumble then the fact it came from a Jeep. :) Overall, I think it's a perfect fit for the SRT8's and I bet you there is not another car or SUV on the road today that sounds anything like it.
If there is anyone in MN who wants to take a peak, PM me. I would really like to hear it next to some of the other exhausts.
OurZoo 06-04-2007, 07:50 PM Congrats Derwood. I had a TBSS owner at a car meet in awe of the sound and the truck yesterday. He was wishing he had gotten the GCSRT8.
Crank 06-04-2007, 08:12 PM Congrats welcome to the family.
AT'sGCSRT8 06-04-2007, 08:36 PM It does have a deep rumble to it doesn't it. I love it!!:D
T-Time 06-04-2007, 09:05 PM It's so funny that we are all saying the same things....
I think the tinted front windows, the tinted rear tails, and now this roaring monster, I'll be using the subway home from the bars. Smart idea anyway!!
Enjoy,
T-Time
Derwood98 06-04-2007, 10:44 PM Okay, so I take her out for a midnight run. The amazing thing is it doesn't seem as loud as before. I cannot even hear it over my stereo. Strange. Anyway, I can feel a little bump in performance and with the windows down, you know who is at the wheel. I have a few kill stories, will save those for another thread. They weren't that great, but left them thinking BORLA when I was done. LOL
westsidestrangla 06-05-2007, 06:07 AM congrats man!:)
can we hear the sound??
UaeSRT 06-05-2007, 07:20 AM Congrats man .. cant wait for mine to deliver :)
Mango 06-05-2007, 09:07 AM Man...all these Borla love threads are making me want to dump my Corsa. Don't get me wrong, I love the Corsa and the build quality is beautiful. But I wish it was louder at idle and while crusining through traffic.
How is the interior drone with the Borla while driving at highway speeds, like 60 to 70?
phenwick 06-05-2007, 09:17 AM You also get to look forward to it sounding even better after it breaks in!

What physically happens to exhaust when it breaks in.

I can't tell you what the physics are, but but as the mufflers heat up over time they tend to "burn in" and results in better sound.
squigmang 06-05-2007, 02:02 PM hows the drone??
i want this system bad but cant deal with drone!!
how much louder is it crusing on the highway??
SRT8UUP 06-05-2007, 02:10 PM What's the word on the Touring Exhaust that is a bit quieter than the Borla out now? I really am not a fan of being the object of unwanted attention. Plus, I am 31 now, and have "been there and done that" with obnoxious exhausts....

There really isn't any drone at all. You can hear it rumbling but it isn't horrible loud by any means, but once you get on it sweeeet!! is the only word to describe it.:D
Jred22 06-05-2007, 03:54 PM Jusy got mine put on. I'm in MN too. Sounds ****ing phenomenal and looks great, the 5" pipes are gorgeous. I LOVE IT.
squigmang 06-05-2007, 04:09 PM any pictures of this system???

Hey AT, are you in the Sacramento area? I live in Yuba City. Would love to hear that S-Type. Drop me a line and let me know what's up.

fledda 06-05-2007, 04:52 PM Does the touring version came with the 5 inch tips?
Hemi@last 06-05-2007, 06:23 PM In an earlier post, I think it was said the both T and S types had same performance gains. Is that true?
It seems that the T type has a higher list price. Any obvious reason?
T-Time 06-05-2007, 07:08 PM Does the touring version came with the 5 inch tips?
I don't believe the tips are 5 in. on Touring. I believe Mr. Borla said they will be the ones with little flanges. ( not sure that is the right word.) I think on the borla websight there is a picture of a Ford GT with the same type of tips.
T-Time
PS. The 5 in. tips on the S-Type makes this thing look like a crazy *ss hotwheels car.:D
Derwood98 06-05-2007, 08:04 PM This is a strange thing, but is it bad to have two black patches about 11" wide going into you garage? :D The Borla exhaust is the baddest mod I have seen. I drove to work this morning and turned many heads. The best part, you cannot even tell that it's on at crusing speed. I cannot even hear it over the stereo.. Strange. Bye the way, a standard floor mop works well for cleaning the interior of the tips.. :D

Derwood,
You obviously do not have a stock radio!:D I love the mop comment. I washed my rig today and I noticed alot of water and soap was accumilating in the borla tips, so when I started the engine I gave it a little goose, tips were clean as a whistle. Sorry, but the only time I don't hear this thing, is if I'm not touching the accelerator.:D

Ha, I actually have a stock radio with Boston G5 12" subs along with an Alpine APX1000.1 Amp. If you tune the stock stereo properly along with the amp, it will blow away any aftermarket system. IMHO, I have been building stereos for years and it sounds great.
I don't use a mop, but I do tie a teather on my leg to keep me from getting lost in the tips when washing. Just to make sure I make it out alive. The one thing I don't like about the Borla tips is that they are rolled and not sealed on the ends. They do tend to hold moisture. Obviously they won't rust as they are stainless, but why hold the water if you can seal it off and blow it out the rear.
BTW, David, you make an awesome exhaust. I was extremely pleased with the quality of the engineering. It's one in a million. I really don't dig on the welds that much as they look like there were done by a 10 year old, but the fit was perfect and the sound is great.
Also, my front cans were dented by the shipper. Need a little more TLC on the packeging. Sound is great..
Derwood98 06-05-2007, 10:35 PM Okay, so I am tearing down the freeway this evening at about 110 mph when I see a state trooper in the right hand lane. I do the "oh ****" and slow down to move behind him when I notice another trooper just behind me pass me and flip on his lights for a brief moment. Just letting me know that he was there. I was so into the sound of my exhaust that I lost my orientation of how fast I was going. :D Do you think that would fly as an excuse?
