: Daytime Running Lights

I just received a 08 GCSRT8 that was imported from Texas. I was recently told that I had to have daytime running lights put on in order to pass the out of province inspection despite having the feature where the lights come on by themselves when light conditions are low. Has anyone else experienced this as well?

I am trying to think of a way I can comply with the standards while still preserving this automatic feature. Correct me if I am wrong but if I have daytime running lights wont it not only burn the HID lamps out faster but circumvent this option?

The dealer has to enable your DRL's using the StarScan by changing the country code. They operate with the high beams BTW, not the HID's.

Your DRL's and the Auto Headlamp feature are 2 separate things.
When you change your Country Code, you will still have the Auto Headlamp option.
It's just a switch on your signal light lever. ( unless I'm mistaken, and ur talkin bout something else)

Also, as Rambit mentioned, the DRL's run off your high beams, and if your like me and have aftermarket HID low's (I have an 07) and fog's, it looks kinda sucky to have HID Fog's and regular lighting for the DRL's (or if you have factory HID's (08 1/2 n up) and regular fog's, same diff).

So, what I did was put a small missile switch in line with the E-brake .. .. .. So now when I'm cruisin in the daylight and especially at Dusk, with just a flick o the switch I can turn off my DRL's and just have my chrome park's and my HID Fog's!!!

I know our bro's from the good ol U S of A, don't have to worry about that, but up here in Hoser Territory we're stuck with some of these laws.

Oh well, what can you do?

One nice consolation though, living in Canada .. .. .. more specific, Alberta .. .. .. We are one of the last Provinces left in the Country that "DO NOT" have emission laws in place "YET". :D

Anywho, I hope some of this is helpful.

Thanks for all the replies guys!! I was just given the SRT8 last week so I am really trying to find out how to go about doing everything that needs to be done for the customs clearance.

As for the running lights, I have the 08 with the factory HID's and assumed that they went off of them and would negate the auto on option. I'm glad to hear this will still preserve the option. DOes anyone know approx. what this costs at the dealer in Alberta???

Care to show a fellow Canadian where you mounted the switch and which wire you cut?

Thanks
