Now I dont believe things till I see it...But The dealer told me that another Jeep came in for the rear diff problem... They admitted that it seems to be a problem and that the Chrysler rep is coming out to drive mine. They say that the rep was talking to one of the engineers about it and that my jeep might be the guinea pig. They said that the other Jeep had less miles than mine but mine was louder and more pronounced than his.

So if they are not Lying to me about it, there may just be another TSB coming out.

I tried to ignore the problem but it just got louder with time. This is after they told me that the noise should go away. I couldnt take it anymore...

So Lets hope that they come up with a new solution to this problem.....And Yes, in my jeep it is in fact a problem...It feels like there is something very bad happening when I get the noise.

Please dont just ignore the noise, the more of us that report the problem, the sooner we can get a fix for it.

If you are wondering what the hell Im talking about, its the grinding rear diff noise that DCX says is normal.

I Love my Jeep, and I want to keep it for a very long time...So please...Dont think that I am just complaining for nothing. I do understand it is a performance vehicle, but I dont want to get stuck with the problem later on when I have no warranty.

OH and the dealer is going to replace the front bumper chrome strip.

First off, glad to see you are going to get the chrome strip. :D

Little over 27,000 on mine now. It has always had the slight whime/hum with traction control off. Just recently started to get a low volume hum/whine/whir...(not really a screech or grinding sound like a bearing) all the time. More noticeable on a very smooth blacktop road.

I think it was grnenvy who has had two rears replaced already. Keep us up to date on your "fix".

I'll have my dealer take a look at it. They are usually great to work with and most helpful.

My vette made diff noise. I took it in so many times and they still couldn't fix it. Here are random thoughts on the issue:

1. Sometimes, improper break-in, when the diff was new could make them louder.

2. Does it have proper fluid/friction modifier?

3. Is there a noise dampner installed on GC?

What exactly does this noise sound like?

The easiest way to describe it is like gears rubbing against another...

here..

Go to the autoparts store and find that display with the 2 different oils. Its to compare 2 different oils or something..it has some gears and a handle to turn the gears....If you know what I am talking about its like the one that seems to bind up.

I like to describe it as Chubakka!!! You know from Star Wars.. When he talks...thats what it sounds like....There is a vibration up through the pedals.

It happens when it is hot or cold, when the vehicle is hot or cold, and mostly when I accelerate. For example....I turn onto a busy highway and accelerate to get up to speed....the sound kicks in, the vibration kicks in and it seems to stop when it switches gears.

It started a while ago and I just listened to everyone else saying that it was normal dana 44 noise....But I really think that this is not normal.
It cant be. I wanted a dealer to check it out and thats why I am glad I did.

I am also glad the other silver Jeep came in today too...That way they see that mine is louder.

I just want it fixed and I want my Jeep back.

Im driving a stupid Pacifica.

So is this noise present all the time or only with the traction control turned off? I only have that noise slightly when the TC is disengaged.

This is with the traction control on. It gets worse with it off.....Yes mine is like having bad bearings or something.

They mentioned that they may be tearing the diff apart.

Whatever the chrysler rep tells them to do is what they are going to do.
I sure hope I get the support I feel like I payed for.

1. Im the 3rd owner but I got it at 2900miles(Maybe Im finding out why)

2.I hope the dealer checks

3. I have no clue

I have the TC disengaged noise too.... This is a totally different noise....

I think there are others out there that might have the same problem as mine but confuse it with the TC noise....

This one sounds like a growl from Bigfoot!!!

I thought I read before that we we're supposed to have noise when the TC is disabled. I took mine in for the noise about 3K miles ago and the dealer said it was normal...of course. Doesn't seem as bad anymore kinds like my brakes.

Again, it is not the TC noise....This noise is with the TC on or off

Even though I am replacing my Dana 44 with a 9" Ford, my rear diff. has never made a noise.

I am shocked there are some noisy diffs. because our units are as basic as they come. Inside it is as simple a diff as can be built...a ring and pinion thats it. No posi unit etc. I would think the noise has to be in the original gear setup. I have photos posted somewhere on this site of the inside of our diffs....

This is BS.

The chrysler guy denied any work on my jeep.

they did an oil change, fixed a rattle, ordered the chrome strip, and did some updates...

Brake TSB...Denied
Rear Diff problem.....Denied...
Scored rotors....denied

Im pissed... especially since they admitted that there is a problem....and that mine is louder than the rest....

Im going to pick it up and.....

This will not be the last they hear from me...

The dealer was nice... DCX not so nice!!

What was their reason for denying? You obviously fall within the bounds of the brake TSB.

See the problem is....The last dealer was aweful...This one simply did what the chrysler rep told him to do.....

I feel really bad to know that this is the type of service I have to look forward to.

I thought that when you buy one of the elite vehicles from them that they should give you elite service...Correct me if I am wrong, but is this Jeep not one of the top DCX vehicles? I am confused. I got better service on my blazer...Which was considerably less value than this Jeep.

I really dont know what to think.....from what I know now, I can say that DCX better make the best cars out there, because their support does not make me want to give them my hard earned dollars so far.

I wanted to get the extended service plan.....but what for?

Make sure you tell the dealer this. Sometimes they can work with you to make things better. Talk to the service manager. Be polite and tell him how you feel. Make sure he knows you're not happy and got better service with another vehicle....

Which dealer is this again?

Agreed. Tell them about this and even take the service manager for a ride so he can hear the squeal.

I was driving to Pittsburgh today and all of a sudden I heard a loud whining from my rear axle area. It continued so I pulled over and turned the car off and on. Took off again...not until I went WOT a few miles later did it start whining again. I drove it like that for a while and it stopped.

Does this sound like the same problem?

I have had this same problem for a while and the dealer has never been able to figure it out! Hopefully a fix is on its way and soon! I know there was a TSB to supposedly fix it but it didnt do anything. It was just a computer flash or something, nothing mechanical is changed and the problem obviously is going to require some hands on attention. Another guy on here was talking about this problem very recently: http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4999 And here are a bunch of other people on this site who have had this problem as well: http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/search.php?searchid=170674 I think everybody should seperately call DCX and complain so we can get the ball rolling because I have been searching this forum alot to see if anyone has a fix for it and this is the biggest breakthrough! Maybe the TSB will be a whole new differential!

Scratch that. I heard it this past weekend. Kind of like a light howling only when the gas is pushed. I'm thinking the gears in the rear-end were not properly lashed.

So what do we do now?? I mean it really wouldnt bother me because the car is amazing, but when im driving people around its kind of embarassing when they are like, "what's that weird noise." I dont even know how to explain, especially if they know nothing about cars. And if the windows are down I have to ask "which noise" because that damn driver sideview mirror just loves to whistle lol

Builder your right about setup. I had my truck back twice the tech set it up wrong the first time. The second time they gave me a whole new rear housing. My rear well the trucks rear is super quiet now. It's the way it should have been from the factory. It's a very simple rear **** dates back to the 1800s lololol
