: Winter storage

When I bought the SRT, the dealer only wanted to give me 5K for my 02 grand.
I figured I'd keep it and make it my winter ride.

Any thoughts on what to do to the SRT in preperation for storage from November to April?
Thought was to put it on jacks just to take the load of the springs, add some fuel stabilizer, and start it every month (or when I needed a Borla pick me up). Also add the trickle solar panel on the battery.

I've heard of folks draining the oil and removing the spark plugs? I think that would possibly allow for rust?

Any other ideas?

UH....no.

Your suspension and tires were designed to take the load of the car for long periods of time. Not your frame supported by a 1"x2" peice of metal in 4 places.

Air up your tires to 40 psi, park all four tires on some pieces of carpet to avoid flat spotting them.

Put a full tank of gas in it, add the correct amount of Stabil fuel additive.

Put the battery on a battery tender, or just take it out and set it inside (best choice).

No need to drain the oil, just change the oil in the spring time before you go driving. People say oil deteriorates over time....if you wanna play it real safe do the oil change AFTER the winter.

DO NOT start it up periodically during the winter. This is the worst thing you can do actually, for a car that barely gets run in the cold months. You're firing up an engine that has not had the oil circulated hardly at all, and each time you do this its on a very cold engine. Most of the wear on an engine comes from all the scoring on the cylinders and pistons during cold starts in the mornings, now compound that by having barely run the motor at all for weeks....all the residual oil has flowed back down into the pan.

And PLEASE keep your spark plugs in your motor over the winter.
