i'm currently using paper towels & water (sprayed) to clean the brake dust off the rims. this wastes like 1/3 of the paper towel roll. anyone have a better solution, maybe some kind of wipes or something?

Meguiars Hot Rims wheel cleaner and generic wheel brush, then dry to prevent water spots.

I use dupont teflon wheel cleaner and let it soak for a minute

then I take my foam gun and spray the wheel/wheel well and let it sit for another minute

then i use a wet cotton towel and clean the wheel inside/out, making sure to clean the towel betweek wheels so as to minimize scratching.

when the wheel is clean I use my trusty leaf blower and dry it spotless, then put a coat of rain-x on it. helps make the imminent dust come of easier next time. hope this helps.

change the brake pads. Clean once a week with soap and water. Problem solved.

I too use Mequiers Hot Wheels cleaner and a soft, microfiber car cleaner sponge thingy. After they are dry, I put on Wheel Wax!! You've NEVER seen these rims shine like they do after one or two applications of Wheel Wax.

This stuff is a B*TCH to get off after it dries...but my god it's worth the effort.

Rain X eh? That sounds like a darn good idea, I'll have to try that!

Doesn't it state on the rainx directions to not let the product get into contact with painted surfaces?

Got a brush from the folks at California Car Duster that is for wheels. Works great and gets rid of 99% of brake dust in only a few minutes, without any rags, wiping, etc. . And as they said, the dirtier it gets the better it works. And gets all the stuff behind the spokes, due to the way it is designed. I take it to car shows, as even the drive gets a thin layer of brake dust after just a few miles.

They are blue in color with a white handle at Pep Boys. Been using one for 3 months now and stopped wasting towels, sprays, etc. I think it was about 10 or 12 bucks.

I still detail the wheels and wax with zaino 1x/month. Also, I use a product called 'wheel shield' that helps with the brake dust sticking, but the brush works without using it. Best thing I've found in many years of cleaning vehicles to save time

The quick way, use a spray on hose off wheel cleaner(scrub w/microfiber, etc. if needed) after rinsing use a wax-while-u-dry product(EagleOne, etc.). This has been my last attempt & is the best yet, the only thing that bugs me is the ring of stuck-on dust behind the spokes(may try that Cali brush?).

I use dishwashing gloves and soap and water with the weekly bath.

Windex and 2 paper towels per rim.

I've never waxed a rim. Maybe I should try.

I put the Eagle One Nano Polish on my rims and while it worked well to clean the rims and get rid of any staining from brake dust, my wheels are now brake dust magnets. Not happy about that. Will have to try the wheel wax that Mango is suggesting next. sounds like will be better.

Windex with or without Ammonia?

I highly recommend against using paper towels on our wheels. They are clearcoated and you should treat them more gently if you want to avoid swirl marks. IMHO you should use clearcoat-safe wheel cleaner and agitate and dry with microfiber. Polish and wax them every now and then will make cleaning easier and they'll stay shiny like a <fill in the blank>.

Good point. You don't want to be using ammonia, it will remove any wax you have on the wheels.

I've been thinking about getting a leaf blower... do you think an electric powered one would be strong enough?

Oh yeah....been using one for long time now. Love it. You have to have a good coat of polish/wax/Zaino whatever on the vehicle, or it takes twice as long or more to move water off. Toro electric Ultra 225has more than enough power. Another nice feature is that it is not simply low or high speed. It has a rotary knob to dial in the speed. (like a dimmer switch with a round knob). Light enough to one hand it, and has a nice round plastic bottom to grip it to hold it up in air for roof. Gets all the water out of door jambs, lugnuts, roof rails, rear hatch area etc. Five minutes, then walk around with a micro fiber towel to blot a few drops and thats it. Really works well on wheels.

I use it just as shown in attached pic. Bit pricey, but does come with big "suck" tube and bag for leafs/vacuum function if you so desire.

If you want one, and can't find it there, or for some reason can't get it shipped from an on line vendor due to where you are, pm me and we'll figure out some way to get it there.

teda, thanks for the info, that is exactly what I wanted to know!

Also thank you for the offer on shipping, I appreciate that, but luckily there are companies I use in Miami that take care of sending stuff down. You just send anything to their address and within a day it's on a plane or cargo ship, everything from LED bulbs to cars and boats gets sent to the same address.

I had no reason to visit any of these shipping warehouses until the day my SRT arrived on a flatbed from a dealer up north, I was in Miami at the time so I couldn't resist stopping by to check it out before it got loaded into a container. I was a little scared because I had never bought a car sight unseen, but after just starting the engine I knew it was all good. I also couldn't resist taking it for a test drive even though it had no plates or insurance! Ahh, fond memories...

I like to use Poorboy's wheel wax - good stuff. I put on 3 coats and when you wash, the brake dust comes right off.

Immediately following washing, I take her for a quick spin down 2-3 blocks and back. By the time I return, it just needs a light wipe down with microfiber towel. I have a gas leaf blower but I think this is easier and quicker + I wash my car at weird hours and can't run a loud leaf blower at those times.
