: Took Jeep in for service, have BAD vibration on acceleration now!
FastJeepSRT8 05-29-2007, 08:56 PM I took my Jeep in today for the brake TSB and a couple other small items before my trip next weeek. They couldn't do the brakes because they didn't have the pads  even though I called them last week to schedule this, so all they did was a 24 point inspection  . When I left I pulled onto the highway and accelerated and got a terrible vibration on the high end of 1st and 2nd gear. This happened twice so I took it back and a tech went out with me. They have no idea what is going on. It subsided as I drove it today but this really has me concerned, this vibrated the whole vehicle including my steering wheel. The mirror was vibrating so bad I couldn't see out of it. I don't think the dealership had anything to do with this since they didn't really do anything. I just can't put a finger on what this could've been. The only thing I've done recently was wash the engine. I did that Sunday but I didn't drive it until today so I'm sure everything was dry. Has anyone else had a problem like this or suggestions of what I should be keeping an eye on? I'm taking her to the East Coast next week so Iwant to be sure everything is ok.

What puzzles me is...HOW CAN THE "TECH" NOT KNOW? What the hell man...it seems that as soon as you say Jeep SRT8, everybody goes into dumbo mode. How can the dealer tech not be able to tell you what's wrong? What the hell are you supposed to do...call Jesus and have him part the seas and fix it? That crap just pisses me off!!!!
What the hell is DC thinking?
Sorry man, but it's really upsetting for me to know that DC can make the vehicle kick ass- but don't have trained kick ass techs to fix it.
EX.
shodanusmc 05-29-2007, 09:16 PM Out of balance, trans problem, suspension ....I doubt the wash had anything to do with it. You did cover all the important stuff, and not use a lot of pressure.

I think it was Moses who parted the sea. But that's neither here nor there. LOL.
Three days after I bought mine, the auto up, auto moonroof close, break squeal, night time display not ruducing in brightness and auto headlight-on not working during rain all presented themselves. i called the dealer, they said they couldn't get me in until the following week.
Once in, I dropped it off for 4 hours and when I came back, they said ALL those problems didn't happen when they tested. Ha, funny. As soon as i left, the squeal returned and the window wouldn't roll up.
I smell what you're stepping in. I heard of a downtown Chicago Jeep dealer who can handle the SRT's so we'll see about that after I take it in next week.

I did. I put a plastic bag around the alternator and then wraped it with a heavy towell. I made sure the engine was cool and used mild detergent and a garden hose with the sprayer set to shower. I used a small air compressor at about 40-50 psi and blew out as much of the water as possible and towell dried the rest. I also questioned whether or not I screwed something up but I don't think so. I think it's more of just a coincidence than anything else.

I live in NW Indiana about 30-40 min from downtown (depending on Ryan traffic), who's the dealer?
FastJeepSRT8 05-29-2007, 09:57 PM I know what you guys mean about these dealership service departments. Like SVTMAN said they're all pretty much a joke. Let me see if I can quote his exact words.
"Well it doesn't seem that bad or even out of the ordinary to me". This from a man who has never even driven an SRT vehicle much less work on one.
"It's pretty intermittant anyway so the odds of actually finding the source of the problem are slim". I wanted to hit the guy!
"Just keep driving it and if it gets bad enough to where something breaks we'll fix it" I should have hit him!
I wasn't going to rant on this thread but you guys are right it's a joke what we have to put up with. I do think this is just a new problem that decided to rear its ugly head today. I don't think they did anything to provoke it I just wish these people had half a brain and gave a rats *ss about my vehicle and their job!

Give them a call first. The sales manager was aware of all my problems and issues. He finished my sentances when I was explaining the symptoms.
I think most dealers are fresh when it comes to working on/servicing the SRT's. Call them, call others but ask if they have had these problems and delt with them on other cars.

Is that the location of the old Mr. Norm's Dodge? It was a landmark when I was young. I have not been to that area in a long time. There is a nioce mall at Narragansett and Grand. You can walk over there and shop while the Tech's shake their heads on how to fix it.
Ink Pump 05-30-2007, 08:35 AM Hey Fastjeep
This is a longshot but had a very similar problem recently. The only difference was I had continuos vibration but really bad at higher speeds. I thought the vehicle was going to shake apart at 60 MPH. I have a great tire guy near my office and he found a clump of tar/junk material inside the rear wheel. Believe it or not when this was removed everything was perfect.
HoustonSRT-8 05-30-2007, 10:11 AM I'm guessing that they removed a wheel to inspect the pads and either didn't seat the wheel properly or you have some loose lugnuts. I would jack up the vehicle and check each wheel to make sure it was nice and tight.

If Houston is right and that dealer can't remove and mount the tire back on properly - run away never to return.

Wheel, not tire, but I do agree with running away. I would have gone somewhere else after the tech said "Just keep driving it and if it gets bad enough to where something breaks we'll fix it", though.
FastJeepSRT8 05-30-2007, 09:22 PM Thanks for all the help gentlemen. I thought of one of the wheels as well but the problem subsided after a while. I took it back today to get the new brake pads installed and I watched the kid like a hawk. I'll jack up the front end and check the front wheels myself. I watched him tighten the rear wheels myself.
Hey CMYKGUY thanks for the info on that dealer. I'll be checking them out for sure. The wife won't mind doing a little shopping while we wait.
I purchased my GRC SRT8 here in Edmonton Canada in May. Magnificent vehicle - love it,
BUT...when I test drove it out of the showroom, (the odometer had 600km - 360 miles on it) I noticed a vibration and mentioned it to the salesman. Nothing to worry about, probably wheel balance, he said. I wondered about the mileage on it but was told it was executive driven briefly and then shipped out west. Uh-huh!
I now have 12,000 km on it and the vibration is still there. The vibration is in the driveline (had wheels re-balanced, but they weren't really out much) and no change after balance. The dealership here admitted they have no experience with these vehicles to speak of and are trying to solve the problem. They have replaced the front and rear driveshafts - but no change.
The problem is slightly noticeable at 60 kmh (40 mph) when cold, but as I drive for a period of time and the engine/driveline are good and hot, it gets quite bad. It's always there at 60kmh and particularly present on slight acceleration. I'm having a top transmission specialist take it home for a night to see if it's tranny related.
I've searched the forum but haven't found anyone with this type of problem yet.
The dealership is quite prepared to try and solve this, but admit they and DC tech support don't know what it is.
I also bought a second one but have it stored with 30 miles on it. It has no vibration.
Any thoughts? Comments greatly appreciated!
HoustonSRT-8 09-12-2007, 08:51 AM Try swapping the wheels and tires from the Jeep that doesn't vibrate to the one that does and see if that helps any. You may have a defective wheel or tire.

Find a dealer who has a CERTIFIED SRT TECH. I use one that has an SRT TECH it makes a big difference. The window thing is the computer, put the window all the way down then all the way up and then all the way down, it should work. If not then the computer has to be re-programed. BTY the dealers to look for are Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealers not just Jeep. Ask before you take the vehicle in, call first. What area in the East are you coming to? Another thing if they performed a 24 point inspection, then the vehicle was put on the lift and the wheels were removed. I would at least have them put it back on the lift and both of you look under that thing and recheck all of the wheels.
Jack
Thanks for the suggestion HoustonSRT-8. I'll post the results.
Mac
Follow up re vibration....
Had one of the best tranny guys here take the vehicle for a few hours. He said definitely the transmission as it locks up in each gear. Firstly around 60kmh. Also predictable and noticeable in each gear as it shifts. Said the trans. is Mercedes product and he doesn't have the ability to adjust/service it. I'll take it to the dealer and have their trans. guy talk to mine about solutions.
I'll post results as best as I can explain it

You can crack and break a couple of things up in the engine.
robbiesdad 09-14-2007, 07:23 AM When I took the wheels off my car to put the sway bar links on, the guys at the shop made sure that the wheels were put back on EXACTLY the same way we took them off. Same stud in the same hole, same lug nut back on the same stud. They are pretty good, and when they saw the GC tires & wheels, it was like BE CAREFUL...

Wash an engine while it is running? Are you kidding me? If you wash a hot engine, you have a chance of cracking something. He specifically stated that he let the engine cool down. {Safety Patrol} fails again!
